Arsineo lost me when he told an author “this book you wrote-now I haven’t read it…”. Looks like I missed more than I realized. All the people discovering Comedians? A lot of this humor is now “inappropriate.”
@Mary Webb "JADA PINKETT SMITH, I KNOW A JADA PINKETT SMITH. HER HEAD IS SO SMOOTH IS MAKES A POOL BALL LOOK LIKE A YETI. JADA PINKETT SMITH, HER HEAD IS SO SHINY THAT I CONFUSED IT WITH THE BAT SIGNAL. I ONCE TRIED TO RUB MY NUTS ON JADA PINKETT SMITH'S HEAD AND IT WAS LIKE TRYING TO FUCK A SLIP AND SLIDE."
He totally takes over the show like always. He successfully delayed his interview by 12:21. Arsenio asked him how he was and what's he doing and it took over 12 minutes. Brilliant.
“Oh hi St. Peter. I have a joke for you. What’s the difference between a Jew and a canoe? A canoe tips? Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Oh c’mon Petey, that was funny and you know it, now let me in!”
After Gilbert is introduced, it is obvious that Arsenio realizes the hypocrisy of his show and the industry in general. He really does not want to laugh, but he simply can not help it.
As this clip goes on, Gilbert does EVERYTHING he can to burn down the bridge, stage, walls, ceiling and everything else to make sure he is never invited back again. Wow, do I love Gilbert. He is the epitome of someone in the mainstream that did not care one iota of being in the mainstream.
@fullbag50 ironically, this is an example of the opposite. Comedians like Gilbert and Norm MacDonald were usually "on call" if they were in town to fill in if a guest cancels last minute. They are asked to come on and provide filler material for a segment. That's why he isn't asked about any specific projects. Here, Gilbert did as much as he could to make people talk about the appearance without actually doing any material. It's quite genius really.
Gilbert was absolutely KILLING it and in complete control of the audience on Arsenio's own show. I think Arsenio was the only one not having fun. Gilbert is like a wild beast when he gets going. You can't reign him in just go with it and enjoy the man's genius.
What the hell are you talking about? Arsenic booked him BECAUSE he does this and the guys right he’s clearly holding back laughter. You’re doing that thing teenagers do with norm Macdonald and bill burr or whoever where they pretend everyone around them doesn’t get it and hates it when they don’t they’re actually friends with these people and are more in on the joke then you. Gilbert is basically a character, these idiots act like all the celebrities were shocked this isn’t his real voice of course they weren’t they actually were with him on SNL or have talked to him in private and know this is in a sense a CHARACTER. It’s really a shame when people are like the definition of a good host, letting Gilbert take control and reacting to it how he’s supposed to, but you act like “oh if I was there I’d do it Justice and riff with Gilbert and tell him he’s funny” you wouldnve killed the whole bit. Idk why so many people like you do this with comedy. Literally INCAPABLE of complimenting a comedian without shitting on another or just whoever they’re with. Same with talk show hosts “oh its a Conan clip? Better make sure I say how much better then every other late show he is, and how Colbert and Fallon are so unfunny” they actually think they’re supporting Conan when again he’s actually friends with the people they’re shitting on and respect them way more then these type of people. Arsenio was such a groundbreaking inclusive host there’s a reason everyone loved being on his show, and it seems like you just have some personal vendetta if you feel the need to see him as this guy who hated the joke and wasn’t having fun as if they didn’t do this shit in rehearsal the day before. Don’t talk out of your ass you’re talking about Gilbert’s genius and I can already tell you find out who these legends are super late, and retroactively try to pretend you were there supporting them all along. Why else would you try to shit people who actually were helping Gilbert when nobody knew or cared about him like arsenio, yet you’ve never done a thing in your life for Gilbert except speak for him,
Actually, Arsenio deserves huge props because he had Gilbert on his show regularly. Arsenio and Gilbert were friends, partly because Arsenio _got_ Gilbert. And, Arsenio wasn't afraid to let Gilbert go off, unlike the other talk-show hosts of the time.
Ive really grown to appreciate the Arsenio show. It went out just as i started to be able to understand television, but now i really wish he brought THIS version of the show back.
Imagine being the guest who had to follow THIS??? 🔥✊️😂🔥 What else could Arsenio do but strap himself in & hold on for the ride 👍😂. Seeing Arsenio literally lost for words for several minutes was hysterical 😆😆😆. Long may Gilbert rest in peace ✊️😔🕊
I always thought GG was hilarious! If heaven has a comedy nightclub, he's up there with Robin Williams, Redd Foxx, Bernie Mac, Richard Pryor, Chris Farley, Sam Kinison, Lenny Bruce, Paul Mooney, John Belushi, Bob Saget... performing for a packed house and everybody is "dying" laughing! R.I.P.
He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the entertainment industry going way back. All his inside references are hilarious but some may not get it if they're of a certain age.
Did Arsenio ever have control of his own show? Of the few clips I've seen from this show, Arsenio always seemed like a deer in the headlights and filled the other time with uncomfortable chuckles. BTW, RIP Gilbert.
I don't know how he was even let on the air. He had his head down giggling like a little schoolgirl the majority of the interview. Didn't contribute anything at all. Gilbert basically did all the heavy lifting himself. Shows his brilliance
Love and miss you my Number One ☝️💯 Mr Gilbert Gottfried Legend of Comedy The best of All 🤩😢😢😢😢😢 In your loving memories Forever my My Best and Favourite My Number ☝️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
This is why people who aren't witty and aren't funny shouldn't host late night talk shows. Same thing for Leno. They simply don't have the ability to keep up with genuinely funny guys like Gilbert and they wind up embarrassing themselves like you see here. It's why guys like Conan, Craig, Dave, and Johnny were so good because they could always hold their own and keep up with their guests and have that comedic banter back and forth . In a way this was painful to watch.
Someone should have told Arsenio to take his hat off and relax. Stay awhile and tell us about what it's like to do the nasty with Paula Abdul, where ever she's from.
Arsenio seems like he's genuinely laughing, I am so used to seeing these frauds like Fallon, Kimmel with their fake sincerity & "laughter" but this guy seems like he's having fun
