I was 11 in 1972. The words of this song hit me later in life. My father passed two weeks before my 38th birthday. His funeral was on the day before my birthday. It poured rain that whole day of the funeral, like the sky was crying with me. There's just no good time to lose someone you love.

I was born is 69. I was deeply moved by this song. My dad passed at the age of 61. I was only 38. Like you and so many, I felt lost and alone. What comforts me is the universality. Not one person is not affected by loss. "Want do we do?". Collectively. No one is immune to pain. Sure that doesn't minimize your own grief, but instead makes you cognizant others may be better equipped to comfort the mourners or those experiencing grief as they were themselves equipped to handle it and now can help another. Bless you. And, God never left His alone. Hugs.

When I was a child in the seventies I always used to play outside with friends and there was an old slim man named Jack he always wore a farmer’s cap. He used to stand outside his terrace house watching us play. He never made any kind of facial expression and he was all alone To this day i still think of him and I wished i just said hello to him ✌🏼❤️

@isabellaspagnut9385
@isabellaspagnut9385 4 месяца назад
May be the word "happy" is not the right one to describe the real emotion this song can arise, but the thing is that when you are getting old even sad but beautiful songs like this can make you happy, because you realize that at that time you were really happy being surrounded by your family and friends and also neighbours that I in the meantime have unfortunately passed away. I wish you all real "happiness" in your present❤

There's so many of us. Orphaned later in life - just the way life is meant to be. If you're lucky, you will have so many great memories to cherish. I know I do, even when it wasn't all a bed of roses. But I'm truly grateful for what my parents gave me. I try to pass those many good things on to my children - just the way life is meant to be, if you're lucky enough to be blessed with children. It's allright to mourn. To miss your parents. To feel sad about the loss. But remember: it's a good sign. The feeling tells you that life has worked out just the way it should. Count your blessings. And know that you're not alone. Naturally.

@@rozchristopherson648 so sorry for the loss of your Beloved Dad. Being a young girl, my Dad was my Prince and Hero. He donated his body to science so my last vision of him was laying on his bedroom floor with paramedics pretending to revive him. I was young but I knew he wasn't alive. No goodbyes or even a hug. I had no closure and I'm still waiting for my hug. Here I am at 64 years old, grieving the greatest man I ever knew. Fortunately my Sweet Momma lived until I was 50. She truly was my Rock and Comfort. My profile pic is my little sisters and I a year after Dad's passing. My life was changed forever in 1977. Heaven was Blessed but we were broken. I understand completely. My amazing Father died when I was 11 years old, in 1975. My Mom and Dad were 42 years old when he passed away from a sudden Heart Attack. I dreamed about his passing 3 days before it actually happened. My Mom fell apart and couldn't even dial our push button phone. I had to handle the whole thing, which is what I did in my dream. God truly prepared me for what I had to do and I'm grateful for it. Four years later, the last dream I had of him, he said, I have to go now. He hugged me and disappeared. Fast forward to 2023, I had an NDE, and I got to see my Dad, and his Parents, my wonderful Grandparents. Dad smiled at me, walked up to me, and spun me around and I came back. Not my time, but just seeing them even briefly, did me a world of good. It was indescribable, but so amazing. I miss all 3 of them, and the pain of losing them has never left me. I was just too young. However knowing I will get to spend eternity with them in Heaven, gives me such great peace.

Oh brother. GenX here…This is a clever song with a great hook. Guess what?There are still songwriters doing that. Why do Boomers always have to come to the comments and attempt to elevate their generation by putting down those that came after? Clearly you haven’t actually spent any time exploring the music of the generations that came after you. It’s such an ignorant and pointless boast. As if you had anything to do with it anyway. Also, this generation seems to be the only generation that does this.

Ah yes, "a REAL man" You are a woman or wokey and can tell everybody what you want them to do or what a "Real Man" is ? The millions of men who died in WW1 and WW2 all cried about it.@@Modeltnick

One of the most honest songs ever written. Just tells it as it is in an unpretentious, straightforward manner. At 71 years of age I feel that I am on borrowed time and this song truly strikes a chord. I shall hopefully soon be reunited with the two most important people in my largely miserable life - my Mum and sister....

In a little while from now If I'm not feeling any less sour I promise myself to treat myself And visit a nearby tower And climbing to the top Will throw myself off In an effort to Make it clear to whoever Wants to know what it's like when you're shattered Left standing in the lurch at a church Were people saying, My God, that's tough She stood him up No point in us remaining We may as well go home As I did on my own Alone again, naturally To think that only yesterday I was cheerful, bright and gay Looking forward to who wouldn't do The role I was about to play But as if to knock me down Reality came around And without so much as a mere touch Cut me into little pieces Leaving me to doubt Talk about, God in His mercy Oh, if he really does exist Why did he desert me In my hour of need I truly am indeed Alone again, naturally It seems to me that There are more hearts broken in the world That can't be mended Left unattended What do we do What do we do Alone again, naturally Looking back over the years And whatever else that appears I remember I cried when my father died Never wishing to hide the tears And at sixty-five years old My mother, God rest her soul Couldn't understand why the only man She had ever loved had been taken Leaving her to start With a heart so badly broken Despite encouragement from me No words were ever spoken And when she passed away I cried and cried all day Alone again, naturally Alone again, naturally
