Excellent reporting. I do want to add one element that is missing from your report but carried quite extensively in the TV film the Riot at Christie Pitts by either Global or CB C TV in the 1990s. That was the participation of the the Italian and Jewish Boxing clubs that were located on College or Spadina. The Clubs included the Bagnato bros who managed one of the gyms and had both Italian and Jewish boxers. Some of the boxers of the day included the likes of Sammy Luftspring and Baby Yack and also Frankie Genovese and others. In the 1990s documentary it spoke of a contingent of Jewish and Italian boxers in a pick up truck with two by fours entering the fray.
This is great. Very well done. Local history is really cool. I had heard about the riots but never knew how to learn more than just "Jewish riots happened down the road from my house."
Hey is this the same Giles Hodge that grew up in Milton? One of the triplets? If so, we went to school together. I"m going to use this with my grade ten students. =)
@@gileshodge21 That's a real shame. I write bestselling Canadian Historical Fiction, and it's practically impossible to raise interest in Canadian stories, I've found.
