I believe you can get a great shave with a cartridge razor if you pair it using a good quality soap/brush. I purchased a Harry's razor and was surprised by the results. Are cartridges refills expensive? Yes. But if someone prefers them over a safety razor, they can still enjoy the wide variety of soaps and brushes. Great video Cris
I wholeheartedly agree, in all honesty its more the environmental factor that is pushing me away from carts. I believe the do an amazing job and in most cases i get a better shave from a cart lol!
Super smooth shave Cris. I am curious to try the cartridge again. Simply as a "go to razor" when I'm in a hurry. Brilliant results however! Superb lather once again. Have a great week and cheers for the upload.
I used the Fusion on holiday and found I had a great shave that lasted the day. 1 with and 2 across the grain did fine. I was concerned that by D.E shaving, I'd be shaving one day, leaving the next a so on, so the cartridge did the job. I will be honest and say I also used then Gillette gel can, and again no problems. It does for a two week holiday.
Congrats, no neck irritation. Myself fought it until switched to Food Skin fm the Executive, which I blended with oil (Castor, olive etc). No oily residue in the sink, neck problem no more. Cheers fm the Lion City.
Hey Cris, I'll be honest, I love to shave with DE razors and will finish/cleanup/4th pass with a cartridge. I have a few different cartridge brands in my den, but it makes the clean-up process much faster and easier, cheers.
Agree, Cartridges are the way to go for a fast very close shave ... I've used for years, however I switched to DE a few months ago more for the enjoyment of a slow relaxing shave and am enjoying it immensely shaving my face every other day. I do shave my head every day however, so it's the cartridge for my head each time, not brave enough for a head DE shave... YET. Who knows when my technique and confidence improves, 'll no doubt brave it. Great shave BTW. Glad to see the baby faced assassin taking the team back to where they belong.
Monday-Friday 5:45AM Gillette Skinguard or Fusion every work day now. They perform beautifully with brushes, GroomingDept and other artisans. Weekends and holidays the Karve CB, Raw-10 or Charcoal level 2. Cartridges are fantastic when used with traditional wet shaving. The Skinguard is reasonably priced too.
Great shave. Personally I can get BBS with both cartridge and DE. I can get closer with the cart on my neck but I also get some irritation with it, nothing drastic that it couldn't be solved with good after shave balm, though, it's also a bit faster for me. However DE shave is so much more enjoyable. I've never tried Gillette as it is simply too expensive for me.
nice one oh in case you didn't see the message yesterday package has gone through custom fees payed so wont be long before i receive the package :) i do use a Cartridge razor of any type one bladed or whatnot if i have to shave every day...i can only use DE´s if i have a couple of days growth
All the cartridge razors you've used Cris which one do you prefer? I've used most of them all good razors but the best I've used up till yet is the new Gillette Sensor and I wouldn't mind trying the original Sensor with the solid metal handle.
Nice one! Have you tried the Shick Quattro Titanium? I find it just slightly less efficient but the comfort of the diamond and titanium plated blades is in a league of it’s own. People sometimes complain it is prone to clogging, I guess the angle of the blades is just a bit shallower than usual and probably that itself increases comfort. No problem with daily shaving tho, I do WTG with a rockwell 6C R4 and ATG with the Quattro, works great so far.
Does that swiveling ball thing that has for a neck actually make much of a difference? By the way I feel like there is something interesting you brought up about chasing the BBS shave. Personally, I never try to chase the BBS anymore because getting that close I think for most guys especially on the neck area is far more negative than it is positive. I get pretty darn close, but I still have some tiny bit of roughness and honestly it doesn't bother me because it just is what it is- can't hide it completely I think lol. I do a with and across 2 pass shave and I imagine that's probably the healthy limit for most men no matter what kind of razor one uses. I definitely agree with you on the usefulness that cartridge razors still offer that you talked about here.
What problem do you encounter when going ATG with a safety razor? Is it tugging too much or is razor burn the problem? Changing the angle would also be my first guess (together with applying no pressure at all), but have you considered using one of the Karve base plates with negative blade exposure for going ATG? These are the numbers for the Karve base plates: - AA - gap = 0.47mm / exposure = negative 0.07mm - A - gap = 0.60mm / exposure = negative 0.02mm - B - gap = 0.73mm / exposure = zero - C - gap = 0.85mm / exposure = positive 0.09mm - D - gap = 0.98mm / exposure = positive 0.13mm - E - gap = 1.10mm / exposure = positive 0.17mm - F - gap = 1.23mm / exposure = positive 0.22mm So basically an A or AA base plate. Another option would be to try another, more forgiving, de blade. I find Voskhod blades the most forgiving blades out of all of the ones I've tried so far.
It’s quite painful. I can use the Karve to go against the grain but the real killer for me is that I’m a daily shaver normally. My skin just cannot cope with atg passes every day. With a cart I find I can go atg with no major issues. Other than the odd ingrown every now and then.
@@AnotherCutAbove I see. I only shave once or twice a week, my skin has to recover a few days after every shave. I am able to go ATG on my cheeks and most of my face without a problem, even with my Mühle R41 (2013). It's my neck that's really sensitive though, so I mostly skip going ATG there.
Another Cut Above try a sharp blade like feather. In theory it should cut the hair more easily, with less pain. i shave 3 times a week, 2 passes, with and against whith a r41 and feather. A few spots but a super close shave
If you like cartridge razor maybe you have to go were the origin concept came from and use the Schick injector L> 0 razors with the twin blade. They will last longer and give a effortless great shave. Just as close as any cartridge but the blades come from Japan and are liked by SE users. I have a pro-glide and I also like it when I was using carts, but I would rather shave with SE or DE blade systems.
Definitely gonna try the 3 passes with my old Mach 3 and see Lol I say that all the time but it will be interesting using soap and brush and 3 passes I used to do 1 pass with tinned Proraso cream and got a good shave it was just quick and not enjoyable
If you like carts, you should try the leaf razor. It's a cart style that takes 3x half DE blades. I really like it and now my wife uses it on her legs too.
Yeah the leaf just looks too bulky but I have certainly thought about it as it allows me to use de blades which are obviously a lot cheaper that the carts.
@@AnotherCutAbove The head looks bulky but in use, it's totally fine. I just use a DE razor to get right under the nose. Plus my wife just loves it big time so that's a bonus!
I think there is a slow movement towards the DE due to cost alone Just think All the DE gear including soaps brushes etc you can buy for the yearly amount you would spend on cartridges
@@AnotherCutAbove thank you for letting me know I bought the same one that you have and so far I have gotten 2 head shaves and 1 face shave and has been very smooth on face and head gel strips so far are still going good
Definitely carts for head shaves, but I just got a BBS on my face with a Pol Silver SI 6th use in a Merkur Futur setting 3. Yes I go ATG. Your Mileage (Or kilometerage?) may vary. :p
Nice shave Cris! When I travel, I use carts cause so much easier and less hassle than bringing DE and having to buy blades. Next trip, will need to bring some quality software and see how it goes.
@@NitetimeReign skinguard is good razor for sensitive skin, but not bbs headshave. I use Gillette fusion prosheild flexball chill, the same in the video. I shave my head 2-3 times a week. Proshield chill work very well, give me 12 hours bbs headshave.i use creams or soaps with brush
The double pivot, which Gillette advertises as the "Flexball" is what makes the shave so smooth and so close, even against the grain. The new Skinguard, when used with a Flexball handle, is even more smooth, totally pain free, and almost as close as the Fusion5. The DE cult will not face this truth. But it is. Gillette is too expensive, too glitzy, and too much advertising BS. All these criticisms are valid. But the technology wins and produces better results.
I definitely love shaving with my DE razor but I too believe I can get a better shave with a cartridge. Obviously this is my personal point of view on it but it is very similar to your view for sure. Gillette are however very expensive but the quality of their products far exceeds pretty much everything else on the market. At the end of the day if you buy a Daewoo car you aint getting a Mercedes Benz quality vehicle!
Video stopped before its time?!😁 I use carts when I'm feeling lazy 😂 how many uses should you get from each cartridge? I understand that individual miles will vary. I'm betting you're not liking Wolves right now?!😁 I'm not liking Toffees either!😫
Hahaha on the day the better team one mate! Fair and square. I used to get around 10-15 from a cart years ago. I haven’t pushed one yet now that I have changed my way of shaving.
For their 5 blades carts i think the Pro-glide seems to do the best job, I found the Chill/Proshield gave me nicks here and there in odd places, and the normal fusion..well....I would have been better off with a belt sander...
hahaha, im trying matey. I am finding it hard to find the time to get them all done. The way I am going at the moment is making it more relaxing for me.
Another Cut Above Then absolutely I have to wait. Shaving and watcing shaving video is one of my biggest hobby. Nowadays outside is dangerous these days. I hope you your family are always healthy!
Anyone who says these carts suck is a troll who is obsessed with DE shaving. Fusion5 proshield by far give the closest most comfortable shave. All my ingrown went away once I used it. Don’t like Gillette don’t buy it, but calling their product junk makes you sound like an asshat.
Hahaha I’d say I’ve just found a way to use a cart that doesn’t destroy my face! I have no real interest in using carts all the time. Due to finances my channel has become a bit stale as well as not many new items coming through. That being said I find my channel a great way to get things off my chest. Cheers Cris.
