I have been using Gillette Mach 5 to shave for the past 5 years. Last night I shaved with my straight razor which has just been sitting on the shelf. It felt so much better on my skin, I threw out my Gillette Mach 5 in the garbage after, where it belongs.
Gilette Mach 5 is very bad because leaves signs and cuts Almost of al signs permanently! Straight razor requires machine grinder for honing but done it is perfect! Gilette is ok for others parts of the body! not face! not legs!
@@zenrazor659 Straight razor is awesome. It really only requires a strop to keep it in sharp condition. If you ever wanted to go nuts and sharpen it at a deeper level than the strop, some whetstones are all you'd need and you'd almost never need those, unless you dropped your blade and it landed edge-first on the floor. I bought a straight razor as an experiment and I don't know if I'll ever shave with a cartridge razor again.
This vid is pretty biased. Straight Razors still provide the closest and cleanest shave, you could get, if you're skilled, have a good blade and shave against the grain.
He'll never be able to shave against the grain with a straight razor as dull as the one in this video. For sure it was not or badly honed and has never seen a strap.
Definitely, this video is pure propaganda. It was setup from the very start, not with the intention of unbiased observation, but with the intention of finding a story that supported their bias. I wonder how many barber shops they had to visit until they found one that not only cut someone's face but also stated that they think that cuts are simply part of the process. I've never heard that from any barber in my life. In fact, most talk about cutting the hairs as close as possible without cutting the skin, because a small cut can form a permanent scar.
This Barber isnt using a real straight razor but one with disposable blades. There is a big difference between them when it comes to the feeling on the skin. And it is easier to get small nicks and cuts with that kind of blade, a real straight razor is more forgiving. I came from Gillette mach 3 over DE razors to straights. It took some time to learn it but i never could switch back to Gillette...Every time when i shave against the grain with it i get not that nice skin irritations and bleeding spots and with grain i cant get a closer shave on many spots because you cant adjust the angle of the blades like with DE razor. The single option is just to use more pressure...with 5 blades, yey... Razor burn³
Everytime I use a multiple blade razor my hair starts to build up in the blades and no matter how much I wash and try to clean it out it just builds up and the razor becomes useless.
@@robertoriverajr4439 Like I said, hair doesn't clog the gap between the blades like the catridge razor blade does, which makes the shaving experience more enjoyable and smoother.
its not about whats the better or fastest its about what costs alot less especially here in the uk.I use my merkur DE and love it i can buy feather blades enough for a year for the price of 2 e refills of mach5
Your right my bro y also use a De razor i use the vikings blade adjustable razor emperor miji and so far it gives me closer shave without ingrown hairs or irritations or razor burn De razor is they way to go is cheaper at the long run
That's why I like my straight razor. One blade, one strop, it's everything myself and another 2 generations of my family will ever need. It can literally be an heirloom that several generations use without ever buying another blade. And the brush cream goes a hell of a lot further than the aerosol lather. A little tin of that lasts for ever. You hardly need any of it to whip up enough lather to shave 3 times in a single session.
I got tired of paying so much for cartridges so i tried a saftey razor. I hated it but i was stubbon and didnt want to waste money. I can shave faster with it than the cartridges now. Once i figured out how to use it, the shave is much smoother, too. I just got a straight razor to try and its a pretty similar concept as the safety. I dont know what they are talking about with the cuts because i havent gotten any yet and with the saftey cant remember the last time i got a nick.
Definitely. Doesn't happen with a straight razor, which cleanly cuts the hairs off without pushing them under with all the weird padding stuff. It's a wonder all those ingrown hairs haven't amounted to a class-action lawsuit against cartridge razor companies.
As a person who has used both, a straight razor is superior due to less razor burn and cost. I use a disposable straight razor though, so a little dif than the video.
Jeff Thank you for disagreeing with me in a civil manner, I believe you, for me and my skin the Gillette wins every time, but I do not doubt you and lots of people have results like yours. Thanks!!!
It's also dependent I think on having facial hair vs clean shaven. In my experience and having a full beard, I found the straight razor being the better option for keeping my lines right. Great video though.
The virgin Gillette razor vs. the Chad straight razor. Virgin Gillette Razor Blades so puny you need like 5 of them Needs to be replaced after a week of use Leaves stubby neckbeard and ingrown hair Handle made from cheap plastic Looks like a colorful children's toy No alternative uses other than shaving Creates cringy ads Chad Straight Razor One big, impressive, reliable blade Outlives it's user's grandchildren Gives a perfectly smooth shave (which Stacy's love) Handle made from metal, or renewable resources like wood or ivory Looks like an actual tool Has alternative uses, can be used as a butter knife or to slit the throat of your enemies No advertisement required, has a reputation that goes back centuries
Been reading a lot of Charles Bukowski lately? What liberal Arts College are you attending? Can you re-wright this in iambic pentameter? I mean if you have enough time for a straight razor you could at least do this is over in the style of Noir. Maybe a Haiku or a Sonnet... Just please for the love of god... anything but Blank Verse.......
I use a Feather SS shavette with Professional blades with EZ Blade Shave gel and EZ Blade aftershave tonic. I have the most sensitive skin known to man on my face, and this combination give me the most smooth, comfortable shave I have ever had. I am truly grateful I learned to shave with straight razors, both cut-throat and shavette style. I TRULY feel sorry for men who are afraid to take the plunge into straight razor, or even DE razor shaving, for not only can you get an amazing shave and is better for your skin, but after the initial monetary investment, you can save HUNDREDS of dollars a year.
Adam 228133 that depends on your hair and how much money you have to spend on razors. It is worth it for me now, but when i was younger and broke I probably would of gone with something else.
@@MrObservationMan It's just not economical, particularly if you wait a few days for the facial hair to grow, the hair then just builds up in the blades, which is really difficult to wash away, and makes the cartridge blade useless.
The straight razor in this video look pretty dull. Maybe it wasn't shave ready (even if sold so). The Mach 5 caused irritation on my face when using it against the grain and i always had some ingrown hair. Another aspect is all the hair getting stuck inside the razor. This is all past since I've started using a straight razor. The straight razor needs a lot more skill, honing and time ofcourse so i understand the overall rating in this video.
Let's be fair: There are Razors and razors (Notice the capital letter difference) and there are skilled operators and "not-that-skilled" guys. You can't compare a Mach 5 to a 14$ straight razor as you can't compare a poorly made Mach 5 with a 80-100$ ultra-sharp, high quality straight razor. According to the video, I could argue that you were doing it wrong with a cheap tool.
The process of using a straight razor is definitely a lot longer of a process (in my experience). I wouldn’t recommend it if your a person who wakes up late and rushes to work every morning. But I DO enjoy saving money and not having to buy blades ever again. And I definitely don’t have to worry about buying batteries for some electrical razor or have to deal with a charging system. My first time shaving ever was with a straight razor; it was with the Dovo Shavette
Safety razors, straight razors, and shavettes provide a much closer and smoother shave because you don't have multiple blades running across your face. It's also cheaper in the long run. You also can't compare a professional shave at an upscale barber shop to a home shave- of course the former is gonna take longer, you're paying for the luxury of hot towels, exfoliants, pre-shave oils, etc. At home, you can make your lather and do a pass with the grain in under 4 minutes and without getting that bumpy-looking red skin at 2:40
Straight razor takes years of practice to use it properly.. Cartridge razor will be very costly in the long run however straight razor will become economical in the long run
Gilette is known for marketing bluff only while reality its the most expensive and worse when it comes to a good shave. Yeah the first few passes are clean and smooth with Gillette and then the blade is ready to be replace and you end up buying more expensive blades.
Of course if you use a new Mach 5 blade every time you shave it will feel better. If you look at the blade under a microscope the teflon coating is mostly gone after the first shave. You would need to look at a straight razor properly stropped after each shave under a microscope after a few days to make a comparison.
1. which one can ya hit with a CARCANO riflea @ 88 yards? 2. what did BOGART use .... dude married LAUREN BACALL 3. give us a film study on LOGAN LUCKY with DANIEL CRAIG as Joe Bang
For me Gillette fusion proshield flexball o Proglide is the best razor for my head. No razor burn,no cuts.bbs 15 hours.post headlube glossy moisture lotion for shine and beautiful head
The Gillette is better only if you have weak beard genetics, because you can shave in any direction without much resistance. If your beard is heavy, however, trying to consistently get a close shave with a multi blade razor will leave your face a mess. With some skill, you can get better results using a straight razor just along the grain; in the long run, your face will thank you lol
Lmao, consider me triggered. 1. No one who knows how to use a straight razor takes more than 5 minutes to shave their face. 2. No one who knows how to use a straight razor would use a shavette razor like that "barber" (replaceable blades.) 3. No one who knows how to use a straight razor cuts their face any more often than one might nick themselves with a cartridge. 4. No one who knows how to use a straight razor would even consider comparing the closeness of their shave to anything resembling a cartridge. 5. The only people who truly believe a cartridge is a better option are those who either don't truly care about the quality of their shave or those who are too incompetent to ever learn how to properly use a straight razor. There's a reason why 'convenience' is the only box checked in the cartridge column.
Actually, there is no such thing as a Gillette Mach 5. Its Gillette Fusion 5. Can't believe people actually commented with Mach 5. Especially those who used it for 5-6 years and now use a Straight Razor. Go Figure!
This is pure propaganda. Please don't listen to this video if you actually want to know what provides a better shave. Barbers use shavettes (straight razors with replaceable blades) because they want to provide the most detailed and closest shave possible for their clients. I bought a straight razor BECAUSE blades like the Mach 5 have frustrated me with their inability to shave as close and they flat-out failed to cut hair in tight areas, such as under the nose. And, no, there's no need to bleed during a straight razor shave. You can cut with the grain, across the grain, and in some places, you can even shave against the grain with a straight razor without cutting your skin near the bottom of the follicles. Straight razors are proven to shave closer, leaving cartridge razors far behind. And, if you are the type of guy that thinks it is not a close shave unless your follicles are bleeding, a straight razor gives you the freedom to go blood close, if that's your thing. That doesn't mean a cartridge razor won't cut you. Just ask my friend who chronically failed his military inspections due to not having a close enough shave. He was so frustrated with it that he would try applying pressure with his Mach 5 and end up with bloody cuts all over his face, while simultaneously failing the shave part of his inspections due to not being closely shaven. Who passed the shave part of the inspection every time? Myself and anyone else who could think critically enough to realize that the cartridge razors were for civilians who didn't care if they still felt like cactuses after their shaves.
this video funded by gillete company for sure i use double edged safety razor its straight razor when you shave one area lets say your right sideburns with straight razor area only has contacts 5 with straight razor with gillete fusion 5 it has 5 razor so every time skin has contact with razor it will be like 5+5+5+5 minimum 20 times and it will cause irritation in skin and you cant shave everyday with gillete fusion 5 try it it will irritate your skin unlike straight razor you can shave everyday with no irritation lets talk about prices 12 gillete fusion 5 blades costs around 30-40 dollars 100 straight razor blade costs around 5-10 bucks gillete fusion 5 is product of capitalism like showering gel and face cleansers bar soaps clean better than these two you can use it to your body to your face anywhere you want except your hair
i am sick of buying Gillette blades that are of very expensive, and behind locked counters, and have to be banged on the sink 1000 times a shave to get the whiskers out after every 3rd pass. A strait razor shaves, no plastic and metal waste, and you don't have to run to the store once a month and fork over $45.00 for a few blades. The strait razor can last 75 years if treated right.
@@MrObservationMan if your going with the comment of shaving your balls then no. Otherwise, the straight or any single edge is wayy better than multiple blades razor. This is especially if you have sensitive skin which I do. The only reason it’s so close it’s because the razor cuts BELOW the skin level. One more thing, you didn’t even lather at all man! At least put on some shaving cream like cremo that you can find at Walmart ,target, etc!
multiblade mach 5 is horrible. Can't cut all and will cut skin!!! especially on the throat! You must be a fool saying mach 5 is better than shavette! The same for straight razor!!! Mach 5 costs too much also! Shavette is very cheap and very good!!!!
Is this a joke? You go to a barber who uses a shavette (yeah google it) and you are under the impression you are going to get a straight razor shave 😂 did you see him strop the single edge blade after putting it in the shavette out of curiosity?? Home you then go and proceed to try to shave your own face without a ladder and a dull blade at an angle that a toddler would use, ouch that hurt’s, pure comedy!! 😂 In between you mull around totally unbiased asking average Joe what would win.. Rewatched so many times it’s more comedic than people jeans stropping their Mach fives…
That barber was terrible... Horrid technique and the lather was nowhere thick enough to do its job. Never had that rough a shave in 4 years of straight razor shaving (on myself, not a barber - although that makes it all the more damning) - even when I started out. You were far worse though! A) you weren't hold it right, B) that razor doesn't have an edge on it - given how generic it was you might have even gotten a "fake" non hardened razor (any razor, straight, disposable, electric etc. all need to have hardened steel blades) C) what do you expect without lather? Once you have had a nice straight razor shave, you can't easily go back to the disposable cartridge - the straight razor gives an incomparably smoother and closer shave. The actual shaving doesn't take any longer, but the stropping, drying and honing does add a lot of time. You can however use a "shavette" which is basically a straight razor that takes disposable edges if time is of the essence (that's what the barber is using, for hygienic and regulatory issues, few barbers use real straight razors).
