Nice video Cris. The Sensor Excel was the first razor I had, at about 14 or 15 years old. I loved it. I used it for years even when Gillette came out with other razors. I didn't think the new ones were as good. I have only used clippers for years (my shame is great), and I've decided to start shaving properly again. Of course, I immediately started looking online for my old Excel and I found your video. I'm going to order the metal handle from a reputed seller on ebay. About $55 USD but worth it, IMO.
Used one of those for years before moving on to mach 3. My wife still uses it, must have been in use for 25 years or more. Nice and neat, handy for round my ears for head shaving. 👍
when in a rush, use a cart and get through the shave asap. Thee's a place for a cart shave in my life, but DE is certainly my go to shave event. Thanks for sharing Cris. Love the feedback on your cart shave.
I graduated High School in 1991 and have been using the Sensor Excel since! I've tried them ALL. I even recently gave safety razors (Leaf) a shot and can say without a doubt that the closest shave I can get on my face ( I use the Sensor 3 on my head) is the 2 blade Sensor Excel. No contest!
Shaved with my new stuff last night and it was great. I really enjoyed both the process and the result. Metal Sensor Excel handle, Gillette gel in lieu of foam or soap, and the light blue Gillette aftershave. Exactly what I used in my teens and my 20s. I just love it. I will keep shaving properly and abandon the clippers.
@@AnotherCutAbove You're right. At this point, personally, I'm tired of the clippers and really happy to be using the razor, but there's nothing wrong with the clippers. There's a time and a place for them, too.
Not sure if you're still using these but I found them to be an excellent shave too. Very close and comfortable. Been DE shaving for a couple of years now but wanted a cartridge option for days where I'm feeling a bit lazy. This was so good, shame it seems like Gillette almost don't acknowledge it exists anymore. My father had the old handle and that was far nicer mind you.
I concur with the commenter below. Of all cartridge razors, the sensor excel is the best. I use DE safety razors and GEM SE razors 90% of the time. However, the sensor excel, original with metal handle, was passed on to me when my grandpa passed. And I enjoy it tremendously. Cartridges are 1 dollar per piece on ebay . Shaves wonderfully.
2 blade Sensor Excel gives me a Smoother shave than a Straight and safety razor .I have been using the Sensor since the early 90's and still using the Sensor now and I will be using the razor for as long as I can in the future.
the Handle I think makes all the difference. If it was the classic METAL version I think it would be better, but I love the Sensor It just feels like it's really plowing through the hair like nothing. I've got some pretty sensitive skin and tough hair, but with this thing I can shave everyday against the grain without issue. they also seem to last much longer than a Mach 3/Fusion etc. To each their own of course!. Glad you like the old Sensor/Excel
I Have The Gillette Sensor 3 Cartridge Razor Handle And Refills I Bought in 2007 And I Still Have it To This Very Day Plus I Buy The Disposable Variations of Gillette Sensor 3 And I Always Take Off The Refills and Use Them For My Gillette Sensor 3 Cartridge Razor Handle Cris 😊
2 blade cartridge is the best razor yet designed. For optimum performance with it: 1st pass with the grain using no pressure, 2nd pass against the grain with pressure applied, & a 3rd pass with pressure against the grain for anything missed.
Still love my Karve, can’t wait for Chris’ stainless versin, but I’d be lying if I said the CB shaves better than a quality cart. The new Gillette Skinguard does give me a better shave than any DE with our proper prep...and it’s ok to admit that!
After a shave or two, and no matter how often I clean them, it’ll clog up quickly, pulls my hair and cause ingrown hairs, especially on my neck. I still buy them for traveling but toss them after a few shaves at most. I usually try and buy the two blade versus those 3+ blades since they cause less problems for me. I’m happy for those that swear by carts but not worth the annoyances they cause me. After starting to use DE again has completely eliminated that problem for me.
A lot of shaving fans consider the Gillette Sensor (not excel) the best cartridge razor ever made. I love how thin the carts are to get in all the nooks and crannies of the face. I really regret chucking my metal sensor handle and case in the bin now and they're so hard to find and sell for ridiculous prices on eBay used. Btw, you may like the Gillette contour or Gillette G2 just as much if you can find an old handle on ebay. The carts are a bit cheaper.
Hello Cris. After watching this video I decided to purchase some gillette sensor blades. I used to shave with a sensor when they first came out. I managed to find an amazing, all metal, heavyweight handle has been developed as an aftermarket handle especially for sensor blades. I bought it on Amazon.co.uk for 26 pounds. It is awesome . Weighing in at 3.5 oz. Check it out Cris. It is made by Taconic, which also have a range of soaps and creams.Great videos Cris. Take care. Glenn.
I will do buddy, im trying to keep away from plastic as best i can. But you just cant beat a cart for a hear shave every now and then or for a perfect shave for a wedding etc.
Sensor excel and mach 3 are the two best carts on the market. I could really shave with them and be fine but DE are more fun and the closeness of the shave lasts much longer than carts. I've got a leaf razor on the way to see if I can get the result of the DE but with the feeling of a cart.
Great video as always i also bought that cheap Sensor Excel....just a few days ago i bought the metal handle one on ebay, i started out my razor shaving from Machine to Gillette Contour Plus 2 blade, them Mach3...then Fusion and Fusion power...then DE
IMHO, I think that to me, the gillette cartridge razor of the two blades is an improved version of the DE razor. (I do not like 5 blades cartridge razor)
A nice looking razor and a good shave. I can you going back to cartridge shaving, Cris. There are lots of devotees out there. I'll be interested to try Gillette's brand new two blade cartridge razor.
I missed on the Sensor back then because my dad was the kind of guy who only bought a bag of cheap disposables and you'd shave with the one left in the sink because "why would you waste a new one?" After many years on DE, I got some nostalgia and I want a Sensor so bad. But the current handles seem to be too much like these goddamn disposables in plastic and weight, and there's no old handles under reasonable prices (a vintage DE is cheaper, can you believe it?). I'm debating whether to settle for the current handle (NOT WHAT I GREW UP SEEING ON TV!!!), get an unbranded metal clone of the old, bite the bullet and buy one of the expensive vintage handles, or wait until I find a cheaper one willing to be shipped internationally (I swear some sellers don't want my money)
@@AnotherCutAbove I bit. Just ordered a new old stock Sensor Excel handle. It will probably arrive for my birthday. I'm so gonna pester my dad with it: "I GOT THE ONE YOU DIDN'T LET ME HAVE BACK THEN, HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES HAHAHA"
@@AnotherCutAbove De company "Parker" actually made this cartridge. Because the original atra handle discontinued when the Gillette Sensor came to the market. Use mine with the executive shaving company, shave cream.
I have this razor and indeed is too light... So all I did was drilling the inside and put a metal part of a spearfishing spear(shaft) in it and it became 30 grams as the original Sensor excel from the past. A lot better control now.
Shit and they are the cheapest Gillette blades. I am under no illusion at the cost of carts! And to be fair I am getting too notch low irritation shaves from the Karve now! Carts do however offer me amazing shaves at a pinch!
I get less irritation with my 2 blade Bic razor over my DE Razor. Not as close of a shave but looks better when you don’t have razor burn all over the neck.
Thanks, that was really interesting. I fly a lot for work and am getting really tired of losing my luggage. I was thinking of buying new cartridges for my old Mach3, but those are not cheap. I will now look for a Sensor Excel. Thanks!
Depends on where you buy it, one like his with the plastic handle is okay. BUT if you want a metal handle like they used to have try USrazors or E-Bay.
Man do I enjoy the irritation free shave I get from a cart but admitting that in the Wetshaving world gets you crucified, just picked up the SkinGuard Gillette's newest two blade cart and goddamnit I'm excited, great videos as always!
@@AnotherCutAbove The Gillette Blue 3 is like a 3 bladed version of the Gillette Sensor excel.. Similar handle to what you used. The head would take sensor / excel blades as the head mechanism is the same. I think it's sold as a Sensor 3 in some countries. Great rinse through architecture.
I actually find the excel carts to probably be the beat I’ve used. They are so smooth and comfortable and I haven’t had any ingrowns at all from using it. The coles razor is however a great razor for the money and at $6 for replacement blades you can’t really argue.
One pass and a little touch up in the trouble areas usually does it for me. The Atra I've used for nearly 40 years was the forerunner of the the Sensor. I've got both and the on ly real difference is the Atra is a bit heavier.
I had a sensor and later a 'sensor II' ..pretty umremarkable but I will say, the less blades the better in most cases on my face. I did try the 5 blade 'coles' select razor and that seemed to be okish but still......I'm kind of hooked on DEs these days.
The body is a Gillette blue 3 non-dispossable but the head is a sensor, or a sensor excel. But i would like you to do a shave with a blue 3, not this hybrid.
I don’t really find carts aggressive, but I do find the less blades the less irritation on daily shaves. This has been my main finding from cartridge razors. The more blades the more irritation on daily shaves.
To be fair having only watched the ad once. It’s generalising toxic men in my eyes and not all men. Therefore it does not mean me or pretty much everyone I know. Each to their own.
