My feeling is that David and Gillian are soulmates of a sort, on a platonic level at the very least. That is a very powerful and beautiful thing. They have a strong connection of 21 years, and they are certainly possessed of an extraordinary chemistry. I'm so glad they have each other, regardless of romantic involvement or not. @@JmBvhntnt28 wow, five years since I posted this! On the subject of the possibility that they may have hooked up early on, I've been saying that for years. My theory is that they probably did. It didn't last long, because Gillian started dating her first husband, her daughter Piper's dad, not long after. He was the show's art coordinator. But it's as plain as day that the chemistry between them was very much a real, organic thing.
I definitely agree! They're best friends, soulmates, they've known each other for so many years now. I'm honestly just thankful that they still have such abundant chemistry and love one another whether platonically or not (even tho I really think they hooked up at some point but eh we'll never know).

When you look back on what they created and where they came from it was quite a journey they shared. She was an unknown fresh-faced 24 year old who never wanted to do TV. After working through some difficulties (which I am sure they had in the early years) not only did they develop a chemistry rarely seen in TV they created TV history. How many TV shows/series can say some of their props are in the Smithsonian Institution? They brought two characters to life and after 11 seasons and 2 movies they left it in a great spot. What more can the fan ask for then to want more? Well done to everyone involved in that series and to Chris Carter who stood by his decision to Dana Scully a smart, strong woman instead of some "bustie blonde bombshell".

David and Gillian are one of the most fascinating screen couples ever and their relationship off screen was also intriguing. I think they clearly have feelings for each other and they are in love, but perhaps there are reasons why they can't or didn't act on it. It's hard to believe they wouldn't act on those feelings with such a strong chemistry, buy maybe they didn't. However, my hunch says they probably did. They would find it challenging to have any sort of deep relationship now as they both have children whose lives are in different countries. So, it wouldn't work because they would have to uproot them. I don't see them ever being able to be together at least until their children are grown up. Thus, my guess would be that maybe the window of opportunity for them was there and it passed. It just wouldn't work with them being in entirely different places most of the time. Maybe if they lived nearer to each other it might have been different. I wish them love and luck in their lives. It would have been nice if they had become a couple, but that's their decision and for whatever reason they decided not to. Therefore, I just wish them all the best and I hope they both find someone they really love.
this is one of my favorite shows of all time. these two embodied their characters and i love the chemistry between them. i would like to see this show coming back to our lives in some form. gillian anderson is like julianne moore, she gets more beautiful with age

This is quite possibly the most selfish and ridiculous thing I've ever read. Two people who could possibly be meant for each other, have the most amazing life together in happiness, should stay apart just to keep pumping out more episodes of a TV series? Sounds incredibly stupid to me. And such a waste of life and love.

You can watch her fighting slipping into the British accident in her recent appearance on the James Corden show.

It's like an automatic switch that goes on in my head and I talk in either accent without me even knowing which one I've decided to use. I love The X-Files and Scully has been a strong female figure that I looked up to as a girl and still look up to now and I'm grateful for that, but hearing them talk about their relationship and attraction and how they spend so much more time with one another than any partner but felt so forced into it, that really makes me wish they had met in some other way and had maybe had the chance to be free to have a real relationship just to themselves and not the whole world to see. I hope they are happy with whomever they are with now and that the fame didn't come at the cost of happyness!

Honestly, Gillian and David got close....real close. But knowing David Duchovony, he has had years of conflict from this one on and off relationship and he felt he did not have it in him to give her a real shot at a real relationship. Instead he married someone else who had it beneficial for him to be married, but he is still very much a tormented soul and has many marital problems with his current wife. I can relate to this man, I see right through him
