Ah, that’s really disappointing and pretty weird. It looks decent, but why bother reviving a 30+ year old cult classic without trying to get the original creator on board?

Gimmick was released first than Kirby, they are only 5 months apart. You could say that Yumetaro is the older brother, Kirby is the middle one, and Yokapo is the youngest since the three came out in '92.

You're definitely correct, the original Gimmick was a very hard game

How is it cheap? It reminds me of Wario Land: Shake It/The Shake Dimension with its color palettes, side view perspectives, and character animation styles.

​@Rivalseeker wario land shake it was done using cell animation, which I'm not expecting this game to do since that takes a lot of work. My concern is over how objects and shading are done. As the way objects rotate/translate looks like they don't belong in that world. Add that with the rather flat looking shading on some of the characters as well as somewhat stiff animation and it looks rather odd. Believe me when I say I love gimmick. It's one of my favorite games that I can proudly display in my switch collection. But I'm not gonna excuse it just because I like the series. Though my real concern should be that the original creator was not contacted. Or asked or told anything about this sequel despite being easily accessible. That rubs me the wrong way.

@Sinistar1983 That last point, I agree with. It's an awkward elephant in the room. But as to the above point, I personally can at least accept the way some game objects rotate/translate, given Yumetaro's movement. Yumetaro moves and animates very smoothly in the NES game, so I don't think the aforementioned objects' properties animating unusually "smooth" look too out of place. The characters animating the way they do helps them pop out more over the environment, I argue. And, their movements are still identifiable and believable.

They’re completely right. These graphics look so generic. I hope the team realizes it and completely redoes them because I won’t be buying this game as is and I was super excited when I first heard about the sequel

exactly, it's the same catroonish style that angry birds and cut the rope popularised and it really bugs me.

The original creator hasn't been in the game industry for ages, hence no involvement. Plus, it's Sunsoft's property.

Since Bitwave is a legit studio with a legit license from Sunsoft, I’m sure they contacted the original creator pre or post-announcement. Why not ask Bitwave directly if you are so sure?

I dislike your cheap opinion. The artstyle is neat and the animations are cool. While I never played Gimmick (nor did I ever hear about it), I think I would find myself playing this sequel one day.
