Where would The Gaffer be without magnets? Another variation might be to start with envelope empty, take a second deck and look through it acting as if you're Carnac the Magnificent and put the "predicted" card in the envelope right in front of the spectators (as opposed to starting the trick with the card already in the envelope). From there, simply proceed as shown. Another good one, Gaffer.
