GIMP team will present the long-awaited new major version, GIMP 3. On the menu : non-destructive editing, multi-layer selection, color management improvements, brand new plug-in API, port to GTK3 (HiPPI, Wayland support, CSS themes, better tablet support, etc.) and more.
We will also expose our plans for the future.

Excited for all the upcoming features... My only request is that you all don't get too hung up on imperfections and get this thing released in a reasonable timeframe. Fixes can come later. An MVP (minimum viable product) is all the community needs to get excited about this project again and help make it better. I know you want to get it to a stable state, but don't worry about perfection! Best of luck the rest of the way - and great job on your hard work thus far.

Hey, thanks for your tutorials. What will get people excited is a 3.0 beta release. I don't see any mention of one anywhere on the GIMP sites. I've been using the gimp 2.99 flatpak for years for occasional light image editing and it's been pretty smooth sailing, so even before the beta the team could have a 3.0 Developer Preview or whatever.

Slight exaggeration ;-) , at 26:41 Jehan talks about new contributors. It seems the team has put in the groundwork for faster development by improving foundations like GEGL and toolkit and using continuous integration and release infrastructure... let's hope so. How much money and time have you donated to free and open software projects to accelerate their development?

@@MrXlee1967 I love GIMP, but for newbies, when things go wrong, e.g. you try to draw a line but nothing happens, stuff like that, it can be hard to figure out why. Also, I have to change the GIMP 2 defaults to make it more user friendly. (Textured icons, ungrouped icons, etc)

I don't know why I'm excited about 3.0, I don't even know how to use non-destructive tools in Affinity Photo or in Photoshop. I use GIMP to edit architectural renderings at work.

It's fantastic! I have an Italian RU-vid channel on Gimp and we are all excited waiting for this incredible new version. I agree with Davies Media Design... don't go for perfection at all costs if it takes a long time. Thank you for your work from all of us!!!

Parabéns galera e que Deus abençoe o trabalho de vocês, mas, sigam o conselho do @DaviesMediaDesign, assim quando começarmos a usá-lo serão reportados mais bugs e ai talvez se torne mais fácil corrigí-los para a versão 3.0.1, e com os novos recursos talvez apareçam mais apoiadores. Gostaria que o Gimp tivesse o botão salvar na poup up que aparece quando clicamos em fechar e esquecemos de salvar, se tornaria mais prático do que ir é arquivo e salvar, isso pra quem é iniciante e não conhece ctrl+s.

GIMP is widely recognized, and over the years, it has received significant financial support through donations. However, it's hard to argue that substantial progress has been made during this time. While it's true that there may be a lack of active developers, one would think that with the available donation funds, the project could establish bounties or hire freelancers to drive development forward. Is there a list of donations made over the years?

Fix that 90s era UI and make it look like a proper modern application (SUCH AS PHOTOSHOP) and then think about other stuff. GIMP is plenty powerful already, the UI is why people don't use it.

My chief bugbear about modern UI's is flat design. I abhor flat design! Good luck getting GIMP 3 out of the door! I'm surprised Redhat, guys like that, are not helping out (as far as I know).

The ui is a big pile of nonsense - this is the thing humans are interacting with. Is it gtk or the devs who are not capable of making something more useful ? But you guys will get a welcome-screen - the most awaited feature nobody needs. 30 years of gimp, and still this mess.

GTK creates many beautiful and consistent UIs. GNOME is proof of that.

GIMP is also the best powerful open source image editor. (I haven't tried Krita.)

GIMP is for power-users. Power-user UI's are, by necessity, not beginner-friendly. This the nature of UI's, if they dumbed gimp down, it would make it worse for its professional userbase. Other applications are for casual users like one's mother.
