Very nice indeed. I've been wanting to make an image of Tir-na Nog'th (mystical outside stairway in the Amber series by Roger Zelazny). This is a very fine starting point indeed. Now to find a tut for a ghostly effect... and an image for a Unicorn in the background... I especially like that you tell us every step, without skipping the repetitious bits. As some of us are new learners with GIMP, the repetition really helps us figure out what's going on.
Hi Terry Smithwick! Thanks for posting. I also read the Amber series, nice that you get inspired by them. Pitty they are, as far as I know, never put into a movie or serie. Hi Jan GW Again, a fantastic fantasy! Just a pitty that your tutorial comes a week to late. Yesterday I was trying to create a Christmas Wish image for a special occaision. After trying very very hard to make such a picture, my work became a complete mash, so I quit :-(. After watching your tutorial it seems as simple as it can be...I just wasn't aware of the possibilities within GIMP, but that you already knew :-). Keep on doing this fantastic job Jan! Hi, it's me again. ... and again a well done video. Thanks very much. As promised here are my first questions: 1. Why do you make the layers invisible when you scale the different objects (girl, bridge, eagle)? 2. I worked with your pictures and I am very proud of my result. Would you allow it that I put my result on my homepage or pin it on pinterest or deviant art. (Copyright?!) 3. And now the real problem! I had problems with releasing the eagle. I could cut it out, but the background was white and not transparent like shown in your video. What did I do wrong? It would be nice if you could answer my questions. xxx
Hello neighbour ;-) You'been busy! I'll try to answer your questions. 1- Making the layers invible for a moment is only to get on a better view on how you scale. You can try it out and see the difference. But it is not necessary. 2- I am glad you like your results! There are no copyrights, so ... go ahead. When you sent me the link, I would like to see your work too haha. 3- Right click on the eagle layer and click 'add alpha channel'. This allows transparancy and you might have missed it. Hallo Jan, thanks for your speedy answer. I tried the scaling with and without visibility and you are right, it is better to view. My problem with the missing transparancy is also solved now.:) I didn't miss this part. I mistook the functions. I used 'selection of alpha channel' instead of 'add alpha channel'. hi jan,i am putting in myself instead of the girl,but i'm am facing out instead of sidewards,i tried all the tranforms but none will get me to face the eagle,what can i do?
Try the flip tool in the toolbox. Shortcut Shift+F. Make sure that in the tool options horizontal is checked. Then click in the image. This might do the trick. Please let me know. if that's what you want.. 😉
I have these cards tutorials, such as birthday, wedding, christmas etc. on my 'things to do list', but my list is quit long so it may take a while ... haha. Best, Jan.
