Try going to the Layer menu (at the top of the GIMP window) and select Transparency and then Alpha to Selection.

You have some GREAT tutorials. I have found that when it comes to GIMP, that your tutorials are truly the best out there. You speak clearly and I have no trouble keeping up with you. A question that I have is this: You have a lot of tutorials on text effects, which I love. The only thing I am trying to figure out is how to get the exact same effect when I have more than one line of text. All of your tutorials are single line.

Click on the “Windows” menu, at the top of the GIMP window, and you should see “Recently Closed Docs” and "Dockable Dialogs." One of these should help. You can also switch to single window mode by going to the “Windows” menu and select “Single-Window Mode.”

You are amazing, I know every filter in gimp (I don't mean to be a show off), but you know how to use every filter and tool in gimp, amazing stuff.

I guess I didn't have latest version after all. It works now! Whooo hoo! I think I will love being able to have the single window now. I just couldn't get the hang of it the other way, since I was use to having photoshop before. Can't wait for more tuts. I would like to try Blender also but think I should master Gimp first.

Love your videos, you are a great teacher who makes it all seem so easy. I tried the silver and tourquoise lettering. It turned out great except the background. When I applied the line nova, it never applied as a layer. I do have gimp 2.8. I really loved the tutorial ice text effect. Can't wait for more of your tutorials.

in Gimp 2.10, for the Chrome part I used Filter > Decor > Stencil Chrome. seems to be the same, from my beginner perspective

When you apply the Chrome filter it will delete the other layers. Try making the text first and then create the shinny button last.

So far, the very best tutorial I have found for clarity and perfect speed. I am in heaven. I did have a problem with the line nova...it goes through the process but will not appear as yours when it has finished, just back to the white background. I will find a fix for this. I am keen to find more of your tutorials.

By the way, after downloading, you just install the font to your computer in the normal way, close Gimp if you've got it open, then when you open Gimp again the font will be available in the usual drop down menu.

Nice explained! I had a bit of trouble with the foreground changing it to Line nove, you left it in white I had to change it to black to get the effect, other than that great video, Thank you!!
