Hello everyone and welcome to part 2 of the Ginger Jeans sewalong, today we will be sewing the front pockets and fly, I will be making view A, the lowrise, stovepipe leg jeans in a gorgeous stretch denim from Maaidesign in the colour fern.
I have created the Ginger jeans sewalong in conjunction with the Sew Autumn Denim challenge with wonderful prizes and also the 24% discount on denim offered for the months of April and May by Weft and Warp Fabric Store in the ACT, shipping within Australia and overseas.

Beautiful stretch denim from Maaidesign, the colour fern is no longer available but they have some other beautiful colours in the lady McElroy stretch denim.

That’s great Judith, glad to help, just make sure you add the same to the back and front legs this will stop the leg twisting when you wear them, have a great sewing week, Deb 🪡🧵💕👖

Hi Deb, a great video, love how you have included your tips and tricks along the way. Your experience in jeans making truly shines thru. I havent made my ginger jenas yet, even though I have had the pattern for years, and the notions too. You are inspiring me! Thank you heaps ❤❤

Omg this is exactly what I was after. How do I convert my pocket to go across to my fly and does it matter what kind of fabric the pocket bag is made out of. Does it need stretch or is a plain wovern fabric ok. This is what has been holding me back.❤❤

Hi Katrina, if you look at Closet Core blog.closetcorepatterns.com/ginger-sewalong-pt-7-assembling-pockets/. The second lot of pockets shows the process for the pockets that join the waistband. This is the link for the last stitch where you can find pattern pieces you may require www.thelaststitch.com/free-download-patterns-and-templates-for-sewing-jeans/ it’s a great jeans tool kit. I think what you have to remember is you make the pockets up first and baste them to the waist , side leg and fly section so it is all in place before you start the fly. You make it look easy. Is it possible to make the jeans a bit wider in the legs?

Hi Judith, yes you can make the legs wider, just by adding to the pattern piece, the only thing you have to watch is the straight grain, add the same amount to the inside leg as outside leg and your pattern should stay trued. Say you added 2 cm to each side, that would be a total of 8cm wider on each leg, so it doesn’t take much to make them wider, hope that helps. Have a great sewing week, Deb 🪡🧵💕👖
