Ginger Snaps (2000) Review 

Ginger Snaps is hands down one of my top ten favorite movies. I remember when I was eleven when the movie came out and I kept asking my parents to let me rent it and watched it about six times before I returned it. I watch it at least once a month. Its one of those movies. Glad you loved it too!

One of the few werewolf movies, I consider legitimately good.

I think Mimi Rogers should get an honorable mention as "Pam" (the mother). She managed to walk a tight line between this semi-oblivious, cringe-inducing, celebration-of-womanhood-cake-baking, type of mum...and actually getting real dark when she realizes her daughters are involved in another girl's death. She's brilliant! Also, while the title is ostensibly about "Ginger", this story is really about "Bridget" and her slowly claiming an identity that is separate from her sister. You may remember "Pam" saying to her as she follows "Ginger" back to their room: _"You are not connected at her wrist"_...and later..._"You just do whatever she tells you"_ (sorry if that last one wasn't precise). That last scene was more than just self-preservation. "Bridget" chose the knife over the syringe of monkshood because she finally realized that her sister was gone...even though "Ginger" was in the exact same state as when she first exited that truck. The only difference at this point is that "Bridget" is finally ready to both literally and metaphorically let her sister go, and be her own person. The camera panning across their photos and and _Forever_ artwork, coupled with "Bridget's" tears shows that she's mourning the sister that she lost...but the fact that she chose the knife tells us that she knows that sister was lost already. But the choice of photos are revealing. She will always love the person her sister used to be...and even though the werewolf is not really her, that's the "Ginger" she is remembering. Yep...This story is all about "Bridget"!

My favourite movie of all time!!! With the best soundtrack ...8 years ago when I was suicidal this movie kept me sane and saved my life ...I know a lot of you found Ginger hot and yeah she is but I fell in love with Bridget's character she saved me ...Thankyou to the creators of this movie from the deepest parts of my soul

this is one of my favourite movies ever. i remember watching it when i still lived in canada as an eight year old, it was on one of those obscure tv channels that show movies at way too late at night haha

I love Ginger Snaps, it's tied with several other films to be my all time favorite, the ending is such a gut punch!!!

I know this video was posted a few years back, so not sure if you shall see this or not. Upon one of my cravings to see stuff Ginger Snaps, I came upon this video. Hearing you speak about it with such passion showed me, hey, she's got great taste in movies. I watched this movie in 2000 when I was 6 and im still watching it now and im 19!!!!Best werewolf movie ever!!!!!!

The guy who plays Ian, the goth guy in Final Destination 3, is in this movie. I have no idea who he plays because I've only seen parts of this. I'll definitely give the whole thing a watch.

Haha oh my goodness when you said you love Canadian accents I couldn't help but laugh...I'm from BC and legitimately I've never met a Canadian who sounded any different than you :P Unless they were from Quebec or somewhere in the east, but even then those are distinct accents, just like we can pinpoint accents from specific regions in the US. (But I definitely do think it's cool that people think we have neat accents!)

I absolutely loved this movie, can't wait for part 2 and 3! And I would love a lookbook inspired by ginger and bridget!

I love this movie. Ginger Snaps is my favorite werewolf film. Everything about it is great. Good story, amazing acting, and the special effects are awesome. I love that there's very little if any CGI at all. The sequels are good too.

I watch this growing up and i have to say no cgi i am glad the director decided to do prosthetics. I really enjoy the movie and they should do more of them. When they did the shoots most of them were at night they had to bring in tons of lights to make it seem like daylight.

This whole movie is messed up but the one thing that really gets me is that the sisters formed a s*icide pact when they were *eight years old* and held onto it until they were both about to turn 16. (I mean, Ginger seemed to be fully into it while Brigitte seemed more hesitant and like she was feeling pressured into it, but still). Like if I formed that kind of pact with my sibling at that age, I can't imagine still planning to go through with it years later.

Glad you reviewed this! Ginger Snaps became an instant favorite of mine. There were never enough good werewolf movies and then came this one! So glad I watched it. And it actually scared me watching it late at night in my room. Had me shook to leave my room and I was grown at the time! 😂😂😂. Top fave werewolf movie up there with Dog Soldiers and The Howling 2. Big budget doesn't always mean great movie. Those movies prove it. Ginger in her full form was terrifying!!! The ending made my eyes tear up. You're absolutely right. Beautiful and sad. Awesome practical effects and fantastic acting from the sisters. They were creepy and coming of age. The angst of going through puberty and discovering sexuality. They didn't fit in. I think lots of people could relate to them in some way as teenagers. I definitely recommend this to people when they ask me about horror like this. Go Canada....keep pumping out more like this!! Love your look btw!

This movie is a cult classic, hands down.

You should really watch American Mary. Katharine Isabelle or Ginger, is the main character. It's a great film!

Gingers snaps is great... ginger snaps 2 is a fucking dumpster fire that made me take a 3 hour bike ride contemplating what I just saw and ended up having me cry myself to sleep.

I absolutely loved this movie when I watched it in high school. I recently watched it again and still like it, but I do think the parents in the movie didn’t really fit by being more of a corny sitcom comedy style.

Favorite movie ever.

I thought it was very good but was hoping it had a little bit more to do with Halloween. Like you, that's the whole reason I watched it.

I really like the werewolf design of Ginger after she fully transformed. Not a fan of wolves or gory films. I'm all classic.

I love this movie. I'm from Brazil and I feel alone when i think on movies like this. It's perfect, but understimated.

I can't notice any differences in how I speak (by that I mean an accent) compared to Americans...

I will say this I did like Twilight at first because it was a vampire flick but it quickly turned me off when the vamps in this one sparkled like disco balls when I saw this in the theater I was like "WTF IS THIS SHIT VAMPIRES DON'T FUCKING SPARKLE!" Any other vampire would've laughed their asses off at this another thing that pissed me off is the main characters Edward, Bella & Jacob they were just terrible Bella was made into someone girls should look up to but really she was the worst. But back on track here, Anne Rice's vamps were more realistic & to the point their vampires they kill & drink blood to survive the only difference is their changing from human to vampire was instant. But that movie made up for it by showing what happens when you become a supernatural creature of the night Louis had to kill to sustain his hunger even though he regrets becoming a vampire. He only comes to terms with & accepts his fate after losing Claudia he finally just leaves his humanity behind. I like in vampire & werewolf movies that when a person is infected with a bite their changes is gradual & slow we get to see their personality, clothes & everything change while they struggle to maintain their humanity. We see this in Ginger Snaps, Lost Boys hell even in "Hello Mary Lou" the main characters personality, clothes slowly changes when she is possessed by the spirit of the dead prom queen. I was thankful to get Ginger Snaps ordered at a store before it stopped carrying this movie I fell in love with this movie I just had to have it I also have Ginger Snaps the Beginning. I hated the Ginger movie with Bridgette carrying on alone after she killed Ginger then she gets trapped & imprisoned by the psycho girl Ghost & that's where it ended. I was so pissed that they would have Bridgette's story end like that I would rather see her get killed in the end so she would be reunited with Ginger.

I don’t get the hype for this movie at all. I liked the last 20 minutes though when it turned into a genuine horror movie.

The movie was censured. Original they got raped. it's dummed down by bitten.

Your the first girl I've heard say they don't like Twilight! I can't stand any of that stuff. I don't really like any modern vampires movies. This is a great film but the ending could of been so much more

An American Werewolf in London will always be the best Werewolf movie.

I love the werewolf and vampires- cannot stand modernized vampires and werewolves, witches. it's so gross and annoying.

Holy shit calm down. You should watch behind the scenes for Ginger Snaps before you do this.
