Oh HI Sandy. I watched so many of your videos in the summer. Lately I've been watching some paper mache.. today when I searched for gingerbread and you came up I said. Out Loud! OH HI SANDY . It felt like I'd just run into an old friend. Well I guess I really did. You just don't know me like I know you! Thanks for all you do from me here in central Mexico!

They turned out very cute! I think using craft scissors---the kind folks use for scrap booking, for paper, with zig zags, or squiggly lined. Roll out your clay on a fairly thin setting and cut with those scissors. Seems much easier.

Another great suggestion for an alternative way of doing it! Check out my blog post (link in the description box) for the answer to the cracking problem with the liquid clay from Sculpey. They were very helpful!

You may have already figured out why the squiggly lines were cracking but in case you haven't, what works for me is to line a soup can with wax paper, apply the squiggly line, let it dry completely, and then cut the curved line. As I think about it, drawing squiggly line on a diameter the size of the finished product would give you the perfect length.
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 6 лет назад
Those are good tips, Wendy! The folks at Sculpey told me that the clay squiggles were under-baked because the tile takes time to heat up and the liquid clay doesn't start baking until the tile is up to temp. So, surprisingly, the answer is to bake them for longer, then they are flexible and don't crack and you can bend them to any shape.

great idea, and look beautiful,they would also look great as earring and mabey a brace!et and necklace if they were made smaller, ,I was thinking acrillic white paint,to hide any cracks but the liquid polymere, is properly better,as its a more suitable color,of to paint on the liquid polymers on to the arms and legs and head,take care love the video,have subscibed

This is not my idea but I saw it on a different blog for gingerbread house I think. The person used white clay and a ripple blade. She made her first cut with ripple blade then moved the "thickness" you want the ricrac and offset the ripple blade. It really worked great. Hope that helps.

huntla 1 I had the same thought, but use the white clay and a piece of cling film (Glad Wrap) on top. Cut with a ripple blade and all the edges are smooth.

So do you bake the head first before you add to the body. This is my first time i have some ideas but, I want it to come out good. Thank you for your video love every minute of it,
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 6 лет назад
I find it's much easier to bake my polymer clay pieces in stages. So once I have something completed and know I'm not going to make any more changes to it I like to bake it. That way I don't risk ruining it while working on another section. You can bake your pieces in any order you like that works for you as long as you plan ahead. Do make sure that your final bake is a full, long and complete one. Bake it as long as you would as if nothing had already been baked.

@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 4 года назад
Hi Tori, Thanks for the nice comment, I'm glad you like the videos! It's best to use liquid clay when adhering clay to clay. It isn't really a glue, and needs to be baked, but gives the strongest bond. See this video for more info about that:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QxOa9Zsl5t0.html

Hi Nicola, I'm glad you like the project! Yes, you can absolutely paint polymer clay after baking. For an attachment you could embed a wire loop in the head before baking, or you could drill a hole and insert a screw eye after baking. The tutorial for the dress, bowl and spoon is a special one for my patrons. www.patreon.com/posts/bonus-video-for-7140751 Happy creating :-)

If you bake the liquid sculpey for 5 minutes, can you move it? Maybe that would leave enough flexibility to attach it. Also, plain TLS would also bond the two clays and provide a little flexibility. Might be able to use the pearl liquid sculpey to bond it.

Hi Sandy...I'm so sorry to bother you again. I'm wanting so badly to make all of your beautiful sculptures but am REALLY interested in the Christmas ones. The Gingerbread Cuties are adorable. I became a patron in the beginning of August and am wanting to find the Gingerbread Cuties tutorial for the girls. Is it still available for the patrons? I'm not sure that I understand how to find tutorials on the patrons list. I just can't thank you enough for all your help. You are amazing! By the way...I am Tanya on that list.

Hi Tori, Actually the Gingerbread Cuties tutorial is free on RU-vid. There is a related bonus for patrons on Patreon. I’m on my phone now and can’t see how to search through the posts on mobile. If you’re on a desktop, try searching for “gingerbread” in the posts feed. If you can’t find it, send me a reminder and I will look up the link for you once I’m back on my laptop. P.S. It’s not a bother at all! You should always feel free to ask for help. Some of these platforms can be very confusing and I’m always happy to lend what assistance I can. 😀

How long do I bake e the head? Then once i add to body how long do i back the rest of the body>
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 6 лет назад
You need to bake your pieces at least as long as the manufacturers recommend on the packaging. I usually bake mine longer to be sure they are thoroughly baked. So something that is 1 inch thick would need to be baked at least 2 hours if the manufacturer says to bake it for 30 minutes per quarter inch of thickness.

love the joke about Dr to the gingerbread man,have you tryed icing it that wasa good one,lol,,I tryed to make polymere donuts for a dangle chain bracelet,,and had similar probs,wondering how was. I going to make my own icing from little bits of chocolate colored polymers,,,but at the time I wasent sure weather to let it dry on the baked donuts or to bake it in the oven,so I let it dry on,,,big mistake as it was still sticky after a few days,,I live in west cork,Ireland,,and have wanted to buy liquid, but can't seem to get it here,,and not sure of the exchange rate from euros to dollars,keep up the great work you do cause its fantastic have a nice holiday👍🐈🐱🌹🌺🌹🌻🌺🌿🌹🌿

Thank you for the nice comments, Angela! I'm glad you like the project. No, liquid polymer clay will never dry on it's own, it isn't like paint. You do have to bake it.
