How long can I keep a Ginkgo in a pot? I want to eventually buy my own house and plant a Ginkgo in the yard, but it's hard to wait! Should I get a male cutting or an Autumn Gold? Not sure I want a grafted one--I'm thinking I prefer an "original" Biloba instead of a cultivar.

Just planted about 20 seeds collected last fall. Hoping to have both m and f trees as the fish smell doesn’t bother me

How long would you say it would take until those autumn golds you showed become a reasonably sized tree?

They seem to be growing slower for me. I am not really sure, because they haven't developed much branching yet.

I love Ginkgos, unfortunately where I currently garden in Dallas Oregon (zone 8b) they begin to leaf out at the end of March, then the new growth is destroyed by one, two or even three hard freezes in April and Early May, and they end up looking really rough for the entire growing season, and barely grow. Meanwhile, my Mom has been growing a seedling that I gave her, on the border of zone 3-4 in Minnesota...just keeps chugging along for over 30 years now. Very strange, there will be winner and losers in the gardening realm, as the climate changes.

Gingkos are all hardy in zone 3. That is right on the edge of their cold zone hardiness.
