Well said… I had the honor to have been at one of those 9am skate park sessions and Gino showed up solo. I did a bs wallride and he tapped his tail in response… a moment I’ll never forget. I casually thanked him for his contributions to skateboarding and for being an influential person. He was very humble and kind. Give thanks again Gino, you’re a true Poet
I love how it ended with him pushing around. Skating can be about landing incredibly technical tricks and it can also be, at its heart, a different way of experiencing and feeling the world. A simple push around town can radically improve your day.
i can only honetly think of three skaters who had only a few parts that made a carrer out of them, gino, pj ladd, and tom penny. guy mariano would have been in that list if he didnt have that come back.
Tom Penny solidified his goat status before he had a real part and once he released one it was footage of him completely emaciated in Europe. His 1st part was after his prime.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Gino. However, people fan out way too hard. I respect his approach to the act of skateboarding, he’s great to watch. But the ‘representation’ of it in present forms of media is banal.
