Giorgetto Giugiaro is a man synonymous with style. Born in Garessio into an artistic family, Giorgetto studied at the local Academy of Fine Arts before moving with his family to Turin in 1952. Whilst studying rendering design, his work was noticed by Dante Giacosa, then of Fiat, who offered Giorgetto a job in the Special Vehicles Stylistic Studies office even though he was only 17. Giorgetto worked on a number of vehicle designs for Fiat, becoming head of styling and Prototypes Centre in Carrozzerria Bertone by the age of 21, staying there until 1965. Named "Car Designer of the Century", nominated by Automotive News Europe among other 12 'immortals' of the European Car Industry in the European Hall of Fame a the Geneva Palexpo and awarded place of honour at the Detroit 'Automotive Hall of Fame' where his name is now engraved for eternity among the heritage of personalities that made, and continue to make, masterly automobile excellence, his laurels -- seven Honorary Degrees, five Compasso d'Oro Award (Golden Compass) Award by ADI, the Italian Association for Industrial Design, and the title of "Cavaliere del Lavoro" (Knight of the Order of Merit for Labour) - indicate a great passion, firm commitment and resounding international success and make him an 'Ambassador of the Italian Image around the world, for his valuable international role and for the results he has achieved in being testimonial of the Italian excellence at work'.
