There is an intensity to his devotion that will mellow a bit with time. His paintings will continue to contain religious devotion, but with more serenity and harmony, taking the edge off of the intensity of his earlier works.

This was a nice surprise on my feed: Reminds me of the Bellini of St. Francis at the Frick Museum. Every time I have been there, I've been enthralled by it: he used nature to create more of a statement than ever words. A few years ago, I discovered that - and his portrait of Thomas More - was his favorite painting in his entire collection. (Interesting choice for a robber baron to make!) :-)

Thanks for commenting, and yes interesting choice. I think the stories of the families who collected art are often as fascinating (or quirky) as the artists themselves.
