To make it clear folks the text was written by a Ukrainian poet and the music by an ethnic German Florian Hermann (Valse Hommage) who all lived in 19th century in one country called The Russian Empire. It became wildly popular. Famous Russian singer Feodor Chaliapin changed the lyrics somewhat and included it in his repertoire.
Oh, that's so damn good! Her voice is beautifully captivating. Furthermore, this gentleman's melodic and dazzling mandolin playing made my toes tickle. Amazing band!
Been listening to more wonderful versions of this song but have to keep coming back to the best I can find . The quality and mix of voice instrumentation and groove are incomparable.
I've listened to over a hundred different groups/singers do this song and I have to say you hit it perfect. There is not one part I dont like. It's perfect in every way like an original. You all did this song so well the original creator of the poem would be very pleased. I cant hear this song loud enough or enough times!
Without a doubt the best I’ve ever heard . I’ve listened to many versions . The vocals and instrumentation are quite outstanding . Great tone and mix . Well done indeed !
The sound of a woman wailing for her demon-lover! Wonderful plaintive singing. The cello(?) opening sounds raw but beautiful. One of the finest versions of this song I’ve heard till now.
You guys are amazing!!! This is my favorite Russian Folk song and you did it justice. (Especially when you sang in Russian) On behalf of the Russian community WE THANK YOU!!!
I have loved this song since I was a kid playing a watered down version of it on the piano. I heard a version of it recently and had to track it down. I've listened to a lot of versions of this song now and I have to tell you, yours is THE BEST! Thank you!!
Video, sound, performance is facinating! Thanks! I was looking for songs to add to our gypsy jazz repertoire (we're a guitar duo), and when hearing this I think it's VERY gypsy, but I doubt this will work along with "All of me" or "I'll se you in my dreams". I will suggest this to my partner in crime and see what he thinks. Funny.. it's all about inspiration. Hearing a tune performed by inspiring people like you can change ones perspective. Guess life itself is like that :-) Thanks for getting this out in the world and thanks for you!
When I was around ten years young, I was given a beautiful jewelry/music box which played this tune. I loved it so much; so melodic. I've passed it on to someone but it comes to mind now and then. SO grateful and happy to find this rendition with lyrics by the Ukrainian poet. Also remembering the hero crusader Alexey Navalny. Too sad. RIP. Thank you beautiful voices and violins!
I STILL can't get enough of this song... well the way you all did the song. I just wished tmTHI version was on Spotify. The one that's on there isn't bad but THIS one is definitely better.
Wow this is amazing, you are so passionate about music. Is is beautiful and I need a passion and I hope that someday I will be half as talented as you are
This Was SO Amazing when you all played it with Elephant Revival, I was hoping to hear this song and then it was the last song you all played and it stole the whole show. Sorry Elephant Revival, I love you, but really, this song was the best part of the night for my friends and I. The whole place was stomping and hootin and hollerin hah (:
love this! can someone please tell me which style of music this is influenced by.. gipsy's in eastern europe perhaps? which language are you singing in?
