@@seshankvish9 she has to be 6 now or turning 6. We met the family when she was 4 and entering k4. She was is k5 the last time we all saw each other, before the pandemic. I don't know if she still at our school because it's virtual and I support a different grade level. If she is at the school, she'll be in 1st grade this year.

Nothing to be embarrassed about! Children learn new languages much faster than adults. They say the best time to teach someone a new language is somewhere between 3-6 years old.

Lots of children have great expressive skills and learn new languages rapidly at this age. My daughter started speaking English in three word sentences within a week of meeting us in China. She was 11 months old. At 18 months, she could speak in 5-8 word sentences, and at four could tell our social worker about the one child policy and why she thought we should go back to China for a little sister. She learned a lot of this from my eldest daughter who loved teaching her all sorts of things. Some children just have great expressive language skills at this age. This little sweetie seems to have this as well. My daughter is seventeen now and still has great expressive language skills. It is a gift, but within the normal spectrum of intelligence.

I think it could be quite scary for kids getting picked up by total strangers. I think some orphanages do a good job at preparing kids for this so it’s not so scary. So glad you got good parents!

Doug Lei Do you know about their lives or their kid? Lol. By “normal” I’m assuming you mean “average”, like a family of average intelligence; parents with 9-to-5 job? Regardless, 5 is kindergarten. Most kids have a year or two of preschool or at least daycare before that, and by age 5 should be able to enunciate clearly, and if not need to begin speech therapy- hopefully earlier. Parents with an “average job” can read books and not baby-talk children. Any neurotypical 5 year old should have a vocabulary of over 2,000 words, match letters to sounds and read basic words that way, count and write to at least 100, have enough long-term memory to relay things from weeks and months ago when prompted. That’s all basic age-level skills that a few hours a week of reading with and working on things with your kid accomplishes. I’ve got no idea why “just normal 5 year olds” with “normal parents” with “normal jobs” would somehow inhibit language or memory development.

Grandma Paulette, I hear you, loud and clear, and feel your pain on a daily basis. I have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren who live 100miles and 300 miles from me and I'm divorced, living alone and very-very rarely do I ever get phone calls and even more seldomly do I get the pleasure of a visit from any of them. The sad part is I have absolutely no idea why that is. I wish kids would stop and realize how painful it is to get older and have their children act as if they were just planted on this earth but were actually given birth to by the one person that would stop a locomotive with their body to protect them. I lost both parents, separately, last year and my heart is shattered but I could wake up every morning with a smile on my face if I could just see my kids show a bit of concern and love towards me. All I can do is pray they wake up before it's too late. Thanks for listening. You're in my prayers as well.

@@specialty_k funny you should say that. I was a foster mother for 7 mos to my grt.niece and who was 3mos.old when I got her. I felt WHOLE AGAIN til the day came that her daddy's sister filed for custody(because his lawyer and the daddy got with CPS and convinced them that she was a better candidate because she's 27yrs younger than me and has a 5yr old daughter and a very well paying job) and within 2wks of her having her home study being done, CPS informed me they would be coming to get the baby and placing her with her other aunt. They never gave me any type of reason why they would do that to me and the baby. We were very attached to each other and the baby was THRIVING while with me. Now she's in a day care all day and had to get acquainted all over again with a new "mommy figure". It's been 10mos since they took her and my heart still aches daily. I don't know if I am up to any more heartbreaks at my age.😕 Thank you for your thoughts and for listening!
