This title is seriously misleading clickbait. Spoiler - he made her believe the world does not revolve around her while he was in her world since his mother's neurosis is the most important party in their situation. In this scene, she realised that he was unwilling to make space for her in his life and she was expected to make all the compromises. He ultimately broke her. She went to Paris to surprise him only for him to tell his colleague that she was a bother and had to deal with her now that she came unexpectedly, like she was just one more headache for him to deal with. He ignored her while taking her sightseeing, concentrating on his work the whole time acting like he was doing her such a big favour since she was eating into his work time. Then this scene happened. He could not see how his mother was emotionally manipulating her in this scene because he is so self-centred. During this scene she finally realised her sincere love was freely taken by him only for him to sideline her whenever it suited him. It broke her spirit because she was all in, heart and soul, and then she left him that next morning having truly given up. He came crawling back a few years later just as she was about to get married. He tried to stop her marriage but she would not look back, he hurt her too much. After she divorced her husband he tried again to win her back but she thought he'd become pathetic ( which he did).
