Tony was the best the only one to keep it 💯 they tried to degrade her character with tht little doc. All those fine tall black handsome delicious looking men she dated & they put her with tht one🤦🏿♀️ tv back couldn't allow you to see strong intelligent accomplished young black beautiful marriages/couples together. They also changed her baby from black to white🧐
I think they all had their toxic moments & their moments where they were good friends to each other. There’s no “worst friend” in their group imo. This show did a good job at portraying them as real people, and real people have flaws at times. Also, this is very much a show of it’s time, the early 2000’s. Society as a whole was not as into mental health as we are now. We’re watching it from a completely different lens. Lastly, it’s a TV show. Like many shows, it has some overly dramatic (sometimes cringey) stuff to keep audiences shocked & interested. I’m 25 now and rewatched the entire series. Overall, I liked how the black women were represented in a positive manner of being beautiful, feminine, smart, & witty. Also in a diverse manner ranging from successful to trying to figure yourself out. The only show after this that came close to having positive and diverse representation centered on black women was Insecure. Black women need more of this balanced representation that leans more into our good like how other women in film are represented. Nobody’s perfect, which makes it realistic, but I feel their good outweighed the bad and we need more of that.
I don't think Toni was a bad friend. People treat you the way you let them. Joan let her friends walk all over her. Everyone knows good from bad and toxic from healthy. It's all about how you as an individual let people treat you. Maya never let Toni disrespect her whatsoever

Toni's character was oblivious to the obvious in others circumstances a hard worker and bougie in her own right. Socially intelligent and wants power over everything. But her down fall was selfishness however it wasn't enough to count her as a person who is terrible in friendships just in the relationship department lol

I'm glad that this video included the scene between Maya and Toni at the end. Always liked that one. I love seeing Toni support Maya then considering that they hated each other earlier in the series.
The first 2 seasons she was terrible 😩 but as time went on she got better. Still a lil selfish and self-centered but as her character developed we got to learn more about her past. I realize (in real life) women who didnt have a great relationship with their mothers are a kind of sh*tty 🤷🏾♀️
Toni, in my opinion, never got better. She gotten worse as time went on. Even when Joan and Toni reconciled, Toni never changed her bougie ways. I felt sorry for Todd.
Actually she was pretty bad in season 1 and at the beginning of 2 until Joan cut her off. She realized she really needed Joan in her life and that made her a better friend. Toni was the most honest friend ever, which can be good and bad. However, I have to say her character kinda regressed in season 4 with poor Todd. I think they were married for 10 or 11 months before he was running to New York.
I feel like people tend to blame Toni for all the bad things in season 1, esp the whole dating Joan's exboyfriend. But remember than Toni asked Joan, and Joan said she was fine with it, then when Toni came to her part Maya and Joan basically tried to humiliate her Infront of the others with petty ass insults, eps the one with black women shouldn't wear blue eye shadow, and literally 3 or so episodes later Maya and Joan wear blue eye shadow. Also let's be honest Joan was as dependent on that friendship as Toni. We are acting like roni didn't have reasons for doing what she did, all anyone ever remembers is Joan being the victim of the friendship and others taking advantage of her when thata how Joan wanted it. She constantly complained about people in her house yet constantly invited them, and even gave Toni the key to her house. When Maya wanted to do anything at her house Joan didn't want that. The difference with Toni and Joan is that unlike Joan, Toni is held accountable for her actions, and Toni apologizes when she does something serious, and actually means it. Joan does not, like when she got all A lister, and tried to apologize to Maya and Lynn but then made the whole thing about her being a victim, and in the end Maya had to make throwing parties at her house all about Joan by saying she wants to give back all that Joan has given her, for Joan to actually give a somewhat real apology
takes two to ruin a marriage. Let's not forget Todd lied about his finances and Greg. His lying was where their problems started, it was the reason why Toni stayed at Joan's for a little. He lied about his finances then expected Toni to just get over it, and change her lifestyle to help him pay of dept that he built on his own. Then when she was ready to move on after he was being an a hole over the divorce papers he comes back because he was jealous. He got mad at her for the island thing and held it over her for basically the whole time he was on the show, but when he messed up he expected her to just get over it. She fe kicked out her mom for him, she let herself be with a broke person, these are things Toni wouldn't do unless she loved him. But he let his own insecurities about his dept make him crazy over a stupid island and broke of their marriage. Then the whole thing with the custody battle, it was clear that he knew Toni was a good mother he was just so caught up in revenge that he almost let his baby grow up without the presence of a mother that loves her. If he was so convinced that Toni was a bad mother who could not take care of the baby, he would not have been willing to drop the petition if Morgan got converted Jewish, he would have kept fighting if he believed his daughter was really in danger. But sure go ahead and blame Toni for everything, that's what everyone on that show keeps doing.

Well I liked Toni also and you did bring up valid points but let's not forget that Toni slept with another man while with Greg, got engaged to that same man, while carrying on a whole other relationship with Greg, and got an STD and then tried to pretend like it could be dormant in one of them when she knew she got it from Clay Spencer. Then when her best friend accidentally tells Greg, it's somehow Joan's fault that Greg dumped her. It was Toni's fault because you don't do that to people. Then surprise surprise she tries to sleep with Shawn! I get everything you're saying because everything on that TV show and in life isn't black and white. They were all toxic at some point but Toni's toxicity was more blatant. Telling Joan's boss about her break up and then telling him that he was a sex addict, is just a no no. I would address everything you wrote but it was a lot. But it's nice to talk to someone who knows the show inside out like I do😊

Need I remind you Toni gave the ring back to Greg, and ofc she did cheat, however that was not Joan's place to go talking about it, then not facing up to it and basically letting Toni be miserable for weeks because she didn't know why Greg dumped her. Also since we are talking about cheating let's talk about Joan's cheating, and how she is hands down the most hypocritical of the four. Assisted a married man in cheating (Aaron's friend) while judging Maya for seeing Stan. Not admiring to it until it is about to blow up in her face, then acts all entitled while asking for advice. Cheated on Ellis with his manager, after blaming him of cheating which he did not, accused him of not being there for her when he drove 3 hours after working a 15 days shift to come be with her because she couldn't get over the fact that Toni was getting married before her, and had to make it all about herself. Cheated on Jevon, Curtis, and Derrick at the SAME time. Cheated on Sean with David, was fr about to run away with him on v day. Went out with brock while she was still with Aaron. Also funny how you say Joan told Greg by accident so she's forgiven but, when Toni told Joan's boss by accident, she is the villain, and has to cry and beg Joan in church to be friend. Let's not forget Joan also told William, not on accident about Toni having Chlamydia then played it off without apologizing. I am by no means saying Toni is perfect because she is most definitely not, however saying Toni was the worst of the four would be wrong. When we look at all the issues they all had apart from Maya, Toni had the second least problems at least when it came to their friendship. But if we have different opinions, and that's fine 🤷♀️. Also it is nice to talk to someone who knows the show 😊
In the end…Joan was a worst friend to Toni. Toni never filtered herself, but Joan constantly masked how she truly felt and constantly projected her insecurities on others. The episodes where Joan was jealous of Toni’s wedding is heartbreaking every time I watch them !!!Joan “acts” like a good friend but it’s only for validation and to be what a good friend is if you ask somebody what a good friend is lol I’ve watching this series about 6-7 times . Idk what it is but it’s like therapy and it gets deeper and deeper every time I watch!

Toni wasn’t even a bad friend to begin with. Toni was a better friend to Joan than the other way around. Ever since season 1, Toni (on her own) was able to be there for Joan’s “pregnancy”, supported Maya’s wedding when Joan almost messed it up, and so on. Her problem was being too selfish and narcissistic but she lived with no regrets and tried her best to be there for her friends in her own way. The others had their own issues too and they lived as they are and be there for each other. The real toxic and a shitty friend is Joan. She was controlling, problematic, insecure, and was so focused on the fact that she wasn’t married and wasn’t getting a man. she was immature and toni/maya/lynn/william were more friends to each other than Joan to them
Yup that's exactly how I feel, she was the one not really there for toni. Jealous of her weeding not there during the child custody those were major events. Joan was the most toxic!

I had a friend like toni in high school yeah no, she’s a girl that have deep rooted insecurities & when she gets off the leash, she doesn’t know how to act. If a “friend” feel like they have to get revenge on you, they are not your friend. Especially trying to date or sleep with your man. Blames people for her mistakes & only does good when it makes her feel better or beneficial to herself. She’s good when she wants to be. My highschool “friend” was very obsessive too. Toni reminds me of her. She feels just cus her & joan been friends since they were young, she supposed to baby her actions & shut up & deal with it/her.
the last scene always got on my nerves because it wasn't his party/event so why did they assume they could just go and get in and then get upset because alex didn't let them in.
Technically, he had no authority to invite them into his friend's party. But the red flags went up when he said women did not belong there ... at that type of party ... and other women were clearly in the party. Why were they allowed, but Maya and her girlfriends were not? Because the women allowed in the party were SCALLIWAGS or HOOKERS!😂
She is a terrible friend she puts Joan down and the others a lot as if she’s better. Plus she only cares about her self and when it doesn’t work for her anymore and Joan does put her foot down now Toni wants to cry or beg nope. Toni is a toxic friend and has issues

Toni was Easily the Most insecure of the four. And the deeply insecure can never truly be friends with anyone. Always thought Joan was an empath who deep down wanted to be more like Toni but for superficial reasons. Dysfunctional friendship no less. But no surprise it didn’t last.

@@seensay2132nah Joan was definitely more insecure. Toni was very insecure but her insecurity was about her darker skin and not wanting to be poor again. Joan was insecure about her body, her ocd, ALL her relationships, her career choice, her looks compared to her other girlfriends, her life style (aka not being that girl), and many more things. Her insecurities are what ruined almost all her relationships, including friendships.

And it manifested by her self centeredness, her shallow values, narcissistic tendencies and her inability to truly commit in any personal or romantic relationship. I believe it was Season 4 when she saw a Therapist who got her to admit her insecurities were rooted in a fear “when she died, she wouldn’t be missed.” Joan was definitely a piece of work but at minimum she had the self love Toni lacked. And that’s why Toni treated everyone around her so poorly. Definitely the most insecure of the 4
Toni was THE WORST!!! She has every trait of a malignant narcissist. I honestly can't imagine why anyone would associate with someone like her, let alone be her friend. None of them were without flaws, but Toni had absolutely NO redeeming qualities. NONE.

The show lost so much when it decided to make the 4 characters all mega rich, mega successful and their topics not that relatable anymore. Same mistake was done in plenty other ongoing sitcoms.
She was never bad what she was and even now is the flesh female on that show. The rest is mediocre. GOLDEN brooks is second. The show worked because of Toni and Brooks the brothers were were crazy 🤪 for those two.
I’d have to disagree Jill Marie Jones who plays Toni is gorgeous she looks like a black Barbie to me & has a beautiful smile… they’re all pretty though
