I love Sunny's voice, so soft, unique, different. When I first knew SNSD, Sunny's vocal was the first I noticed. She really needs to debut solo[Btw:Please reaction to snsd the music show vlog Thanks]
sunny is definitely underrated, she is literally better than so many 3rd and 4th gen main and lead vocalists yet she doesn't get the recognition she deserves
Hey there Angie. in the many, many SNSD reaction videos I've watched there's almost always been some comments saying that Sunny's vocals are "underrated" (and I agree) . She has said herself that SM producers kept having her sing 'cute'...like her image...so she developed an insecurity about singing any other way because she didn't get the practice and encouragement that Tiffany, Taeyeon, Seohyun and Jessica got. This would explain why she's never done a solo. It's also hard to find examples of her singing in her 'natural' voice', but imho you can hear her proper voice on 'Lil Touch' and their is an all to brief clip of her from the Catch Me if You Can' musical where she kills a high 'belt', like she was Taeyeon. In this album it seems to me that Taeyon, Tiffany and Seohyon didn't have 'power highs' and 'belts', while line distribution is more than its ever been, and in particular Sunny, Hyoyeon and Sooyoung seem to have been given a lot more vocal freedom than in the past ( remember when Sooyoung complained that she got up at 3 am to get her makeup and costume done only to sing 1 line for 8 seconds in the shooting of IGAB?). As you noticed, the girls were first to critique their singing, the producer didn't have to say much, and maybe they didn't get to do that as-much, back in the day? And IMHO I think Yuri is also an underrated vocalist, but Yuri being Yuri, I don't think she's aware of it...she just does what she does (like forgetting lyrics and choreo) and carries on with a smile like nothing happened. 😄 Overall I think this album demonstrates the particular vocal harmony that is the SNSD Hallmark, but shows off the individual talents of SNSD without relying on 'TTS'. As for Tiffany..no idea why she had so little time in the booth...but maybe she was SO prepared, she just nailed it it no time flat? .
