'I GOT A BOY' is the origin of the SM beat switch up. It was controversial AF even in Korea when it came out. But it led to a lot of the sounds that groups like NCT and aespa in SM have.

This is the first ever kpop MV that trending youtube worldwide. And i think the only kpop that win an award beating bunch of worldwide's superstar, usually they only win in "kpop only" category. Plus this song manage to create the loudest fanchant in kpop history ever by multiple fandom

This is one of my favorite songs in kpop. It is ICONIC. It’s always funny watching newer kpop fans react to it because this is the essence of kpop in 2nd gen. I miss this kpop. It was unique and fun. ☺️

The Bohemian Rapsody of Kpop! This song is really like nothing else out there, not even other Girls Generation songs. They took a big risk when they were at the top of the game and when they could've played it safer and this experimental song ended up paying off. This song is definitely a grower though haha.

I think what's funny about this situation is that a while ago people used to stereotype K-pop as being all bubblegum pop and GG was looked at as the embodiment of that because of songs like Gee and Oh. But, they were the first ones to come out with something that eclectically mixed genres like this in K-pop and the fact that people now look at K-pop as just a crazy mix of genres is hilarious but iconic. Just goes to prove their influence on the genre and industry. Also, I think if you want to understand why GG is so loved you must watch Into The New World, Gee, Genie, Oh, Run Devil Run and Forever 1 and also react to funny videos from them. Their personalities are uninhibited and bold. They're probably the most loud, hilarious, confident, and savage K-pop group I know.

You had to be there when this song dropped this song was everywhere and it is an iconic classic Girls’ Generation title track and it is the beginning of the switch ups if you will in songs by SM. And yes they are the Standard for girl groups, that is why you here so many of third and fourth generation group speak highly of them and look up to them. and I feel like this style ok Kpop is definitely going to make a comeback very soon. as a sidenote, you should really check out the bsides.

I think your comment on 3rd & 4th generation changing things is right but not in the sense that you thought. They are more western than anything. From 3rd generation onward they lost the K and is just straight pop the very reason many older kpop fans are not into the newer group. 2nd generation is what defined Kpop... Super Junior in particular is what the name Kpop was associated to and they changed the game. 2nd generation made kpop an international thing, were the first to enter worldwide charts and awards. I will also go to say it's also where kpop stop being the unique flavor it was. The newer generation are trying so hard to make it international they lost what many international fans loved about it. And the storytelling is definitely something that wasn't amiss in 1st and 2nd generation. You don't know enough about the older groups to say this. If anything I think older kpop storytelling is better than today with all the crazy unnecessary shit I see in mv and music today.

THIS! 2nd gen and early 3rd gen is what made kpop incredible. Each group was unique and the storytelling was impeccable. Now it’s just the same thing being released over and over. The same sounds over and over. I miss the uniqueness of kpop. I with people would learn more about 2nd/3rd gen before saying certain things.

The reason why they switched it up so many times is cause they’re trying to tell the audience in different ways “HEY! I GOT A BOY” and if u didn’t understand them the first time, they tell u in another way. When one of the girls say “Hey stop lemme put it down another way”. Loved the reaction though 😂🩵
