No matter how many times I watch this, I cry every single time. The greatest heartbreak in kpop history. And if you’re a SONE, you know who that ‘empty spot’ at the center belongs to…. And after all this time, it will always belong to that one special person that the 8 members loved so dearly. OT9 then, now, and forever. 💔❤️‍🩹

They sang this 3 months after Jessica left the group (they were basically 9 members)... During 1st verse to chorus you can see there's one empty spot in the middle then during 2nd verse they close it as they come together at the center..... The fact that the 9 of them dreamed to perform in Tokyo Dome during their trainee days and now they achieved that dream but sadly they aren't complete makes it more sad and emotional... The reason why it's very emotional for them (and for Sones - their fandom) is because right before the concert, Jessica was kicked out of SNSD (wasn't really specified by SM why). The concert in Tokyo Dome (one of the biggest venue in Japan) was their dream as a group, but Jessica was not with them to share that dream. That day, you see them crying/getting teary eyed, even those members who you don't usually see crying. --also, it became more emotional because they made it a ballad version

Every sone cried that day 9 girl had a dream of performing there debuted song at Tokyo dome and only 8 performed tayeon literally had her eyes closed the half time imagine your 2nd main vocalist kicked out they left a space for her.

This performance is UNTOUCHABLE! Legendary yet heartbreaking.

i'm not sure if you've watched/listened to it already, but this song is actually a ballad version of their debut song. Hence, it's also more emotional with those pre-debut clips they showed in the screen, plus Jessica getting kicked out right before this concert. and yes, it is indeed a powerful song. They debuted in 2007, but till now, trainees use this song to practice (since it requires intense choreography and vocal skills), people use this song in protests too (not limited in Korea. This is how powerful it is!), and even in LGBTQ pride parades.

I was there. Everything that had happened was still raw to Sones then. People around me were sobbing. I was too. It was very emotional. Literally my heart was breaking. They cried we cried. Every time I see this performance, there’s not a single time I don’t teared.

Though this is sad, but this is one of my best Into The New World performance, it really is iconic in many ways. This performance is very meaningful for the fans. Still have painful spot after so many years ..also one of the biggest heartbreak in Kpop. Imagine how hard for them to perform in pain knowing that one of their member wouldnt be there anymore in one of their most dreamt concert venue.She was even with them during the preparations.. SNSD (Girls Generation) known for their strong bond and this hit them by heart as well as Sones. This made me cry hard wayback but still got teary till now. Taeyeon showed here how strong she is for suppressing her tears coz she knew that they needed her. Indeed my best Leader. I hope you continue to react to know them well and thanks for this!

The gap in the middle is like symbolizes One missing member (which is Jessica, who left the group 3 months before this concert). When they moved together, it symbolizes that they will go and move forward as 8. And this version of the song, never fails to make a Sone cry. It is so heartbreaking to see 8 girls singing emotionally. Especially Sunny who's been always smiling but she's crying here.

Thank you for reacting to my girls, again. Just a little trivia about this performance. As you see, there's this space in between the girls. That's the space for their member Jessica, who happened to leave SM. The reason that they are crying, is because this is their first performance without her.

this was their tokyo dome concert which was few months after Jessica left the group... The initial spot in the middle was meant for Jessica but they moved closer in the 2nd part, they are telling us they are moving on as 8 members now and to continue giving them the support... It was emotional... i cried no matter how many times i watch this...

Before Taeyeon even started singing... the tears were flowing. Tokyo Dome just one of those Soshi moments that just cuts deep. Leaving Sica's spot and then closing the gap was a beautiful metaphorical moment. As a SONE, OT9 is always in my heart even in moments like. And seeing Sunny just pour her heart out on stage... I sob along with her.

This was performed at Tokyo Dome which is a legendary concert venue and most artists in Asia dream of performing there. It was also a dream of SNSD. But it was bittersweet for them because not long before, Jessica who was a member of SNSD was removed from the group for reasons that still to this day isn't really clear. ITNW is their debut song and this new arrangement into a ballad is just very emotional for them to perform. It was clearly an homage to Jessica because of the empty spot in the center at the beginning of the performance and the addition of the lines "saranghae" which means "I love you". :(

If am not mistaken, they promised to each other they one day they can and will performed at the Tokyo dome, but then Jessica Jung is expelled because of conflict in interest with her own business (as she grew from a young girl to a matured lady) and when eventually they can performed at the Tokyo Dome, they already lost a member who grew up from very young together with them. This performance, marks the achievement of their dream yet they missed a member.

If you wanna do a SNSD guide video there's a recent one (released jan 2) named a girls generation guide by ohwoowoo. It is very long so maybe you could divide it in however many parts you want but it is absolutely the best snsd guide on youtube! It's got a good balance of clips showcasing their abilities and their personalities, as well as old and new clips and clips of the members by themselves and interactions between them! I can't stress enough how good of a guide it is!

This was their first concert as an 8 member group after Jessica left the group. So they were so emotional as this was their debut song ITNW but they change the genre to a ballad. Also, it was their first Tokyo Dome concert which is a huge place that only big and popular group could perform on it. The whole concert was emotional and they nailed every song in it as usual ♥️ Hope you can react to more SNSD ballad songs as they prove why they are called the nation's girl group. Yes, Girls Generation did and still do have a close relationship with each other. Starting in 2007, in their early teens the nine girls became one, they became family, being together 24/7 in one dorm for 3 or 4 year. Then suddenly they are told Jessica is no longer in the group. it's like saying one of your sibling is no longer with you.

Here's some extra context that in my experience, SONE may know but always miss when commenting about this performance on SNSD reaction channels: 1) Just a week before Jessica's departure from the group, they were at KCon in LA and during the pre-concert meet/greet hosted by Eric Nam, Tiffany naturally and comfortably promoted Jessica's growing fashion business...which then suddenly became a conflict with SM and the apparent reason for her departure. 2) Between SM, the girls and Jessica, the situation was a confusing mess. Jessica in a public comment seemed to think her members had something to do with SM kicking her out ( which seems highly unlikely to me) while SM provided no explanation beyond "conflict of business interests", and did nothing to clarify what if any role the rest of the members had in the decision. The girls themselves didn't say anything either...I think because SM wouldn't let them, in typical South Korean 'damage-control' fashion....admit nothing, say practically nothing, ignore any mention of the issue and expect the drama to just disappear. 3) But what DID disappear was 16% of SM's stockholders' share value. That wasn't just millions of dollars in capital lost, that was a loss of confidence in SM and SNSD--the "Nations Girl Group' and their biggest talents by far---when preparation for the Tokyo Dome concert was already well advanced 4) Cancelling the concert would have been an EVEN BIGGER 'scandal', so ALL the choreo and the vocal arrangements and staging all had to be changed to account for Jessica's absence. Which brings us to THIS particular performance. Were SM and SNSD planning to do this wholly new arrangement of ITNW all along? Maybe, as a special treat for such an important venue for them...but if so...why such a very sad and dramatic arrangement? Why wouldn't it be more like the beautiful a capella version they'd performed previously? SNSD have done plenty of ballads, poignant and melancholic, but if you forget how personally emotional the girls were singing this, and just listen to the instrumentals and vocals it's still a deeply saddening arrangement. Why would SM and SNSD want to put such effort into making the audience feel miserable? Just to make the concert more special than it already was? Possible I guess, but if the intent was actually to create an 'extra-emotional' version just for the occasion, I'm doubtful they meant it to be as heart-wrenching as it actually became. The gap on the stage, and then closing that gap, is clearly deliberate...it's the only 'choreography' in the piece. THAT HAD TO BE PLANNED and COORDINATED as did the rest of the staging. lighting etc. Excluding Jessica from the VCR of their auditions was deliberate, of course, but that only made the 'Jessica gap' more obvious. i'd like to think that this particular performance was specifically put together by the girls themselves and the loyal production staff who had worked with them all these years, and that whichever idiot or idiots in SM's management who kicked out Jessica in the first place had no choice but to agree to it ( or maybe they were quietly fired after the backlash over Jessica's removal?) (BTW Lee Sooman at this point was semi-retired, and I'm sure there's no way he had anything to do with removing Jessica). Lastly...consider that this performance HAD TO BE REHEARSED...sound checks, blocking, lighting etc. Until they got to this part, the girls had to perform as if Jessica had never existed, and after it they had to perform as if they hadn't just delivered their most meaningful and emotional and heartbreaking performance of their lives. For these other reasons, beyond the immediately obvious, it's IMHO the greatest performance in popular music, EVER.
