Girls Rule: 50 Women Who Changed the World
by Danielle Brown
All over the world, female decision-makers, go-getters, and trailblazers inspire with their actions, influence with their words, and get stuff done. Girls know how to rule and have been doing so for thousands of years.
As we travel through history we find some of the strongest, fiercest women who have ever lived. These remarkable leaders thought differently, pushed boundaries, challenged outdated ideas, and achieved things that have never been done before. Across our planet and through centuries in time we encounter politicians, peacekeepers, pioneers, activists, spokeswomen, and survivors who changed the world - and are still doing so today!
From fierce pirate leaders, warrior queens and spies, to pioneering mountaineers, conservationists and scientists,
Girls Rule explores 50 phenomenal females whose accomplishments have left a lasting impression and legacy. Some stepped up because they had to, some saw injustice and decided to fight back, and some had a dream and refused to let others stop them from achieving it. Each story documents how they found their passion, navigated challenges, and found the courage to use their voice. Discover these amazing women - some well-known, others not often explored - talented in science, politics, architecture, activism, the arts, palaeontology and more. Figures include: Rosa Parks, Mary Anning, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, George Eliot and Zaha Hadid.
Written by Danielle Brown the author of the bestselling and award-winning Run Like a Girl, this book aims to teach readers that success comes in many different forms and women are all capable of achieving far more than they might first realise. Barriers are always present in any pathway to success - some relating to gender, and some not - but there is always a way around these if they stand their ground. Showcasing the tenacity, resilience and bravery that many of these incredible women displayed to get their voice heard and drive change shows readers that they too can achieve big things.
These women overcame incredible odds, led extraordinary lives, and were not afraid to stand up for what they believed in. They didn’t do it for fame or glory - in fact, many were not appreciated in their own lifetime - but they left their mark on the world nonetheless. Their voices still echo loudly and have paved the way for those who came after them. Danielle’s message for all young women is simple; “You are bold, talented, unstoppable. And when you stay true to your beliefs, you too, can change the world.”
