We live in Texas and our test riders have been just fine. Realistically you can’t avoid never having a hot head in a helmet. This is definitely one of the best options.
I can’t seem to tighten the chin strap for my giro scamp small enough for my 15 month old (49cm head). Do the straps move from one side of the helmet to the other side at the back attachment point?
Yes. I had a similar issue, I find it really difficult to adjust since it can seemingly only adjust from the one size. When I tighten it to fit the clamp is up awkwardly high by my toddler’s ear.
Hello there. Nice review. I was reading some amazon reviews about this helmet and some repetitive issue that appears is that MIPS system causes hair to get stuck in it every time. Have you had the same experience? how did you deal with it? thanks
Hey Jhon! This is definitely an issue with the Scamp MIPS. While other MIPS helmets (like the Giro Tremor) cover the MIPS anchors with the internal pads, the Scamp does not. So yes, longer hair definitely snags. This is my 2-year-old's daily use helmet. Her hair gets caught often. While it's annoying, it's not a deal breaker for us because the helmet is so excellent otherwise. I would buy this helmet again, even with that issue!
Do you have an opinion on the strider full face conversion helmet? Im thinking I would like the full face protection for my son if hes riding at a skate park. This helmet looks great though!
Hey Kris! I haven't seen that helmet, but the conversion feature seems like a great idea. Full face helmets are much heavier than standard helmets, which for some toddlers can cause strain on the neck and outweigh the benefits of the full face. For example, the Strider full face weighs 450 grams while the Giro Scamp S with MIPS weighs 260 g.
