Bolshoi Theatre 22 November 2007. Giselle - Natalia Osipova (her debut in the role), Albrecht - Andrey Merkuriev (his debut in the role at The Bolshoi), Hans - Ruslan Pronin, Myrtha - Maria Allash, with artists of The Bolshoi Ballet.
The greatest Giselle of our time. One of the all-time greatest Giselle. To think she was only 21 and making her debut in this performance is mind boggling. Her stunning portrayal and her outstanding dancing brought an intensity to this role that very few have ever matched. The ultimate role for any ballerina 🩰 Osipova has proven throughout all these years that she’s a force of nature and a gift to all Ho are lucky enough to see her dance. Thank you for this magnificent recording. Sadly Albrecht was no match for Osipova.
Thank you very much for this video! Always wanted to see all performance of Giselle with Osipova. Great pleasure! She is the best ever Giselle! Thank you very much!
Every single movement she makes is a POSE. It’s incredible. I watch others who are good. But no one is constantly in a position every second except Natalia.
Maria Allash, impressing Myrtha. The first and second Wilis: very good. Great corps de ballet. All these belong into and make a "Giselle". And of course the two stars! As always Ossipova shows a top performance. Merkuriev seemed to be very new in this part.
Don't you have a built-in translator? It's a pity... Andrey is good, but far from the best. And he made a lot of mistakes... In my opinion from everything I have seen, the best in this role is Vladimir Shklyarov. And their duet with Osipova in 2013 at the Mariinsky Theater is the perfect “Giselle”. The perfect scene of madness in the first act. The ideal final scene in the second act - you believe Shklyarov that he is already mortally tired and everything that is happening seems to him like a bad dream... With almost perfect execution of all elements. It’s hard to believe that Merkuryev is tired...
I don’t know who is dancing Myrtha….but she’s as good as Monica Mason. Who I think is absolutely the best. Not an expert in ballet. ButI watched her teach the part. Then watched her perform it. This dancer captures the character as Monica teaches it.😊
Not used to the audience clapping and cheering. I just stay quiet to the end and get lost in the drama and beauty of the dancers. Then I’ll clap at the end. For as long as do encores .
I agree to a certain extent. i'm not one to applaud after every dance either. However ,(I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I have some experience on stage, both in ballet and other performances.) You learn to tune out the audience and focus on the performance. Some performers even get energised by the audience reactions. But, like I said, I get where you're coming from!
A very energetic and vital ghost she is 😜😜😜 a pity this dramatic role is not for her . Too preoccupied with jumping and enjoying ! He is even more dramatic than the dead one !
You must be joking. This is one of the all time finest performances of Giselle … no one can touch Osipova’s great gift as a great dramatic ballerina whose acting is outstanding. Her “jumping” was not forced at all…and if you know anything about this role you would realize apart from the adagio it’s all jumping…for her, for Albrecht, for Myrta and for the Wilis. There is no effort or exertion in her portrayal- she flies because she’s only a vision or ghost…unfettered by gravity.
@@l.alexandra5871 she evolved for better Giselle’s later . Good for her . I have seen this ballet many times by the best companies since the early 70s .
