In this video, we'll look at how to contribute to open source projects on GitHub using forks and pull requests. We'll cover making a GitHub fork, we'll make changes to the forked repository, and finally create and complete a pull request to merge those changes back into the original repository.

This was exactly what I needed to be able to make one very small (one word) change to an open source project. I feel like I could spend LOTS of time learning the ins and outs of git, but this is the perfect start to hit the ground running. Thank you.

8 minutes or so in... I couldn't follow how you got to the list of Commits, or find out how in the github user interface. There's a Commits under Insights, which is on the three little dots menu, near top right, but that doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I was supposed to be looking at. Up to that point, it was all going well :) I seem to have managed to find a way to submit my pull request, but I had no clear idea what I was doing. Maybe the user interface of github has been changed since this was made?

Hey! why not create branches instead of forks to add new features and ask to merge those branches to the master(now main) branch? Branches seem very light weight compared to Forks to me. Or am I missing a point here? If someone can clarify that would be great!

Because,Forks are generaly being used to contribute to open projects which you dont have permission to access the original repo. Or you can use your own forked copy to develop your own app.If you work in a company they will you access to work on repo and open branches

Hey, once again another awesome video. Are you using a git terminal where it shows you the current working branch?
@brandoncroberts

very helpful thanks :) I've been a dev for a couple years and never had to use upstream in git before. Question: would it be more standard to create a feature branch in your forked repo?

When I try to fork it says, 'you are not a member of any organizations'. Than how can I practice ?
