From Rossini's great opera: "Il barbiere di Siviglia", Giulietta Simionato sings the I Act's aria: Una voce poco fa. Studio recording of the whole opera with Cesare Siepi and Ettore Bastianini
Muchas gracias ❤❤❤❤
If my memory still serves, I believe the year was 1959 when this magnificent voice made her Met debut in Il trovatore , if my date is wrong at least my memory of this debut is not.I was lucky enough to be in the audience and have ben entralled with her ever since. It is so wonderful that I can hear her again on RU-vid. It brings back wonderful memories. Thank you for the opportunity to hear her anytime I want
So easy, so clear-cut, without unnecessary vocal complications and lodadings :-), the most beautiful one can imagine si at the end - and this is the master sample of Rozina. BRAVA!!!
It's not that she couldn't sing coloratura, it's just that it wasn't limpid or fluid enough for this kind of aria. The sound is very robust, too heavy when placing runs, staccato etc. 'Aspirated' is the right word for this as others have said.
EXTRAORDINARIA, ME HA SORPRENDIDO, YA QUE CREÍA QUE ERA SÓLAMENTE MEZZO, PERO COMO SOPRANO ES INCREÍBLE. EXCELENTE INTERPRETACIÓN. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. GRACIAS POR SUBIR ESTE VIDEO.-
@tamerlano I think you are wrong.. I find her florid singing lovely and all of her staccati are on pitch too. She was some singer... Her High B's are as easy as can be as well.
Simionato sang staccati really well. However, she made all the coloratura part in this aria into staccati. Not fluid enough. Anyway, during her time, I must say most Italian mezzo sopranos (even sopranos) were so clumsy in coloratura parts.
@kgarmaker123 I just don't think she had a great florid technique, sorry...the execution is clumsy or inaccurate often. The CHARACTER is fabulously drawn, but the florid moments aren't ideal. Yes, the staccati are in tune, but even large and immobile voices can sing staccati...how may Queens of the Night have you heard where the staccati are flawless, but the coloratura triplets are messy? I've heard many.
May be you preffer Singers like Bartoli. She sings like sewing machine. Everytime the same color, the same "florid technique". Sempre ideale, sempre la stessa.
I adore Simionato, but Rossini is really better modern mezzos. Mind you, NO ONE sings the Aida Judgement scene today like Simionato did...but, florid singing was not really her cup of tea and it shows..
Rosina was written originally as a soprano role, and Simionato is a true Verdian mezzo. NO bueno. She would be a much better Isabella from Italian Girl.
