The classic opener to the classic gameshow, featuring Michael Parkinson, Liza G'dard (I love her awkward look at the camera) and Lionel Blair... and a whole host of interesting hairstyles and attire. Guests were Su Pollard, June Whitfield and Suzy Atchinson (June's daughter), Roy Kinnear, Leslie Grantham and Grant Winter.
Starts with a Thames trail for the evening's programme and the classic ident and as usual for Thames at the time, they cut off the top of the show.

“The master of the genre was undoubtedly Lionel Blair, and who will ever forget him, exhausted and on his knees, finishing off An Officer and a Gentleman in under two minutes?” - Humphrey Lyttleton.

I find it quite sad that one of my favourite actors and comedians (Roy Kinnear) wouldn't be around much longer, after this episode aired. I wished that I could have met him, as Roy was a very funny man!

Tommy Cooper was just as funny (or probably funnier). All the comedians today that on television are never as funny, compared to comedians in the 1970s and 1980s. Les Dawson was also a great comic and was a great host on Blankety Blank. David Walliams, Peter Kay and Jimmy Carr owe a lot to these comedians.

show Tommy Cooper to a young audience and most wouldn't see why it was funny, humour is subjective and shifts over time, I was more into alternative 80s stuff but change is fine it's normal we still have old tv to rewatch if we want. gawd yes so many gone now in that clip Liza Goddard and Sue Pollard still with us

It’s 2021 I’m English and live in Australia and I’m watching the English quiz show in tv here “the chaser”, a question just was “which tv show once had the same theme tune as grange hill?” The answer was ‘give us a clue’.... I know the grange hill theme tune so I’ve just come here to see if I can hear the resemblance, and I can’t!! Can anyone else hear the resemblance???

They changed the theme tune in the early 80s. It was originally the same tune as Grange Hill.
@antster1983
@antster1983 Год назад
This was the third theme tune. The first theme was a rearrangement of Alan Hawkshaw's "Chicken Man" - the original was used as the theme to _Grange Hill._ The second theme was a more of a light entertainment theme tune, used for a few Michael Aspel series and the first couple or so of Michael Parkinson's series, and it was composed by Denis King. This was the third theme tune, composed by Alan Braden.

I think this is either 18th or 19th January 1988 (he and the other five guests were in two episodes). His actual last new appearance on television seems to have been as a guest on Roland Rat - The Series II on 23rd May 1988. The only mention I can find of him in any TV listings between then and his death is as narrator on a repeated episode of Bertha.
