in 1979 I worked as a design assistant for a US Givenchy sportswear licensee and had the pleasure to meet & work with Mr. Givenchy - he was always very kind & elegant. At one meeting he showed up in a Burberry raincoat and when he took it off I saw that it was completely fur lined - I recall thinking to myself - wow, that's understated chic!

Mr. Givenchy had the most refined style and exquisite taste!! Mr. Givenchy knew what women of a certain position in life needed, because he was one of them.

Sad, everything has declined. The new clothes don't even come close. Classy is never out of style. Thank you for another peek into fashion history!

It's *absolutely SHOCKING* that it is celebrated that he was able to go to college for Fashion Design as if it were the most mundane and obvious of choices while the Nazis were simultaneously brutalizing Parisian citizens who didn't have wealth or a "pure" bloodline to protect them from the unspeakable horrors the world was fully aware they were inflicting. My adoration for Audrey Hepburn led me to have great respect for this man whom She obviously adored, but after learning this some 30 years later I'm left feeling depressed that humanity just keeps exposing itself to be even more sociopathicly grotesque than I'd ever thought possible and there just doesn't seem to be a cap for any angle you seek. Especially from the elitist percentage. Yet somehow I am able to continue to feel shock and disappointment.
