No, that's not a Harry Potter title. In what is I hope an easy answer to a question that is posed regularly on the GivEnergy forums and groups, here's a very quick guide to getting your GivEnergy inverter reporting into the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard.

If the helpers aren't showing up in 'consumption' or 'return' to grid, then it could be that the Energy tab isn't recognising that the units should be kWh for these entities. I had this problem and couldn't load any of these entities in. I resolved this by going to 'Developer Tools', then 'Statistics' and noticed that there were some cards that required fixing. This was a case of setting the unit to kWh and everything worked. Hope this helps some people.

A video showing how to use givenergy and octopus flex would be useful. Currently, you can set it to export (say between 5pm and 7pm) but you then have to manually turn eco back on at 7pm otherwise GivEnergy will just draw from the grid.

Totally agree! However, I am not on those tariffs so it's tricky to do. I am planning an Intelligent Octopus one with the help of a friend, but switching to Flux or Cosy in order to figure out instructions would be quite costly. I'm not saying impossible, but it's a difficult one to plan and test for me.

Cheeky request. Aside from monitoring, what functionality do you get/lose with this setup if the Internet is down/disconnected? I guess monitoring is good. But how about changing behaviour? Battery charging hours from grid, % behaviour etc. Thank you !
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
In theory it is all manageable by changing the setting in GivTCP. I personally set the charge times using the portal still because it’s an easier user interface, but I know of people scheduling everything with a click in Home Assistant that runs a script/automation to set everything up as needed. I don’t *think* you lose anything other that perhaps your sanity learning Home Assistant

Thanks so much for getting me started with Givtcp power flow card & home assistant. I do have one question, how do I make the circles bigger for the solar, house, battery etc so the text and icons fit inside it please ? TIA
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 6 месяцев назад
There's no way that I know of to make the circles larger on the power flow cards, you would either need to contact the developers to request the feature, or delve into the murky world of css-mod and see if you can maybe reduce the font sizes. The latter option is likely to take many hours of messing about from past experience!

I'm also having same issue in that some helpers are not showing up as available to pick in the Energy Dashboard. My battery +/-and energy import consumption helpers are not recording in kWh which is why they are not being offered. Strange that the sensor they are based on is recording kWh. How do we correct?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 6 месяцев назад
You'll need to recreate the utility meter helpers with a different name, perhaps use the cumulative energy sensors as the source instead of daily sensors as the source? I've seen a few quirks where you have to fiddle to find something Home Assistant likes.
@ma9mwah
@ma9mwah Год назад
I used your video to swap the carbon levels to the UK regional figure, which works fine on the power dashboard but I cannot seem to select that figure on the Energy dashboard
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
Sadly the energy dashboard doesn't (yet) support custom co2 entities which is a shame. Hopefully it's something they'll change soon.

My battery charge is showing as a negative value in the energy usage graph, but the sensor is showing positive values - is this normal?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 5 месяцев назад
As in when your battery charges, it shows hanging down on the energy graph possibly in a pink colour? Yes that's normal, that's battery energy in. Grid export also shows negatively like that.

When I try to add the 'import energy today' Utility Meter helper I'm unable to 'submit' and finish as I get this message..."entity GIVtcp import energy today kwh is neither a valid entity id nor a valid uuid". As far as I can tell GivTCP is installed correctly. Any advice please?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 4 месяца назад
So you've created a separate Utility Meter helper from the GivTCP import energy sensor and that's the one you're attempting to use in the energy dashboard? I ask only because you've used the word 'GivTCP' in the helper name so wanted to be certain. Have you confirmed that both the source GivTCP sensor and the Utility Meter it is wrapped in are populating with data?
@jimcook-martin3289

I really appreciate your reply. I've no data being populated so something is very wrong! I'm wondering if I should uninstall GivTCP and start again. I've got some screenshots and a log with errors that I don't understand but obviously can't attach these. As you will see I am very much a novice at this! Thanks again!

do you know if there is a way to get an automated alert/email if the solar forecast for the following day drops below a set amount? when its good weather I tend to not pay attention to the dashboard as much, and today’s bad weather has caught me out
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
Yup you need either the forecast.solar or Solcast integrations configuring and then you schedule an automation to run at a specific time to check the tomorrow forecast value and call the notify service of it’s below a particular value. Lots of different components there to get working separately first though before you bring them all together in an automation

Question regarding givenergy batteries, moving to Octopus Cosy am I able to schedule 2 charges per day or woukd I need something like home assistant to do the second one?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 10 месяцев назад
The older generation inverters only have one charge slot per day. I think that the newer ones have the capacity for multiple charge slots, but you would need to check with GivEnergy support as it's not in the GUI by default. Home Assistant would definitely be an option, but you could also use Octopus R&D labs with your Cosy tariff to automate your battery if you wanted an easy solution.

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech I tried the R&D Labs and it does work but unfortunately it turns off eco mode on the inverter. Shame because that would have been a great option

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech ok I have now found that if you set the schedules through the web portal you get the option to set eco mode back after the routine has finished, in the app it states that eco mode is not supported. Interesting...

I'm using home assistant and BottleCapDave's octopus integration to have my immersion heater run at the cheapest three hours of the day on agile (so this could turn on and off up to six times a day). I'm planning a givenergy all in one, and instead of using the scheduled charging on the inverter, I intend to use the same method to just turn charging on and off. I am assuming the givenergy home assistant integration will let me just turn charging on and off at will. This was surprisingly easy to setup. I didn't have to write any code at all.
