In this video, preparing to do some overlanding and off-roading in a jeep, I install a new rugcel 13500 lb winch. manufacturer part #RG-0021, which will help me self-recover on the trails. I also offer some winch tips and show the line tension process that must be done for every new winch install.

Somehow I missed this comment ... sometimes yt doesn't notify me of comments and then I find them later. You are welcome!

It looks like a potato head face and I think it’s cool. Makes me want to go up and just start talking to your jeep. I just purchased the Rock-Hulk version of this winch (exact same thing with different branding). Thank you for showing it working. I’m using your links to get the shackles and strap.

its been a great winch so far and it looks good too ... everybody says thats the first thing they notice and funny thing is ... I never intended it to come out that way -- like I didn't purchase it in those colors for that specific look ... but once it was installed the first thing I thought was "that completes the face look, looks like lipstick though. I think I will just keep it like this (originally I had planned to paint it so I didn't care what the colors were)".

Huh, I never knew about this procedure.... haven't had any issues with the rope on any of the winches I've owned though. I think every synthetic rope I own has begun its life by pulling firewood out of the woods at a distance which requires the full length of the rope plus a couple of logging chains though, so that probably did the trick. I always re-spool at the end of the day when I use it. I wonder though if UV will break down the fibers after a while....

truthfully, that is exactly how many of my previous wenches started out ... on a farm, pulling logs, always when it was a blizzard cause we simply didn't have time to cut enough wood for the season due to other more important things ... and then right about christmas you run out of wood lol. To be honest, this is the first synthetic winch rope I have ever owned and there are some differences between rope and steel I am learning as I go. I.E. rope has to stretch a whole LOT before anything even starts to move. Although rope is supposed to be a LOT safer also ... i.e., it collapses line a fishing line when it breaks vs cutting someones head off when cable breaks. I am also very curious about how long they last. Some people say the ends will start to fray after just a few uses and if that is the case, I will replace it with a steel cable and just assume the risks.

oh yea, I almost forgot, i think the real reason you are supposed to spool a winch under pressure is ... looking at this winch once the rope was installed, the spool was pretty full. I don't think I would have gotten it all wrapped up if I just free spooled it into the winch.

@@sharpridgehomestead " we simply didn't have time to cut enough wood for the season due to other more important things ... and then right about christmas you run out of wood " Haha the struggle is real isn't it? That matches my wood cutting routine to a tee xD

@@Grey-Troll its that way with most of the people i know who heat with wood. I bet its been that way for hundreds or maybe even thousands of years.

@@sharpridgehomestead I wanted to mention that winches slowing down is likely due to battery drain since the vast majority of folks don't have an alternator that can keep up with that kind of demand. Maybe the jeep design takes this into account now though... I cant speak to that. I'm preparing to upgrade my Nissan from the factory 130A-180A to a giant one that someone gave me. This will be paired with heavier gauge cables too. I'd have to look again, but I think its somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600A so it will be interesting to see what kind of difference that makes in both heat buildup in the winch motor and pull duration. Speaking of heat I havent gotten mine over slightly warm to the touch with about 3 full line pulls without interruptions. The battery was a bit drained afterwards, but it was just a slippery hill though, so not bogged to the axles or anything crazy.

Thanks for the video, I just bought one on Amazon. You can try a heat gun on the bolt covers to make them fit.

thanks for watching and the tip. I love it so far, I've already had to use it outside of just doing the tensioning
