Excellent mod John. It has more bite than the middle pickup
@jchavins

you overlooked the fact that the Gilmor mod also adds the neck pickup to the bridge/middle pickup combo

The Tele both PUs on position: Bridge/neck combined pick up sound from the two extreme positions of the tonal palette of the guitar,- the bridge caters to the top end pushed character,- the neck is positioned at the exact spot where the guitar sound it´s most bassy ,- so the combined sound of the two will be an eq curve with a raised low end and a raised high end but with a slightly scooped midrange. The Stat middle postion: Wwil logically be the position that picks up the most midrange from the guitar, a sort of pushed midrange,- but with slightly scooped low end and top. Both are fantastic sounds,- the low end/top Tele sound is great for rhythm guitar,- esp. when overdriven,- the pushed midrange is fantastic for soloing,- esp. when overdriven,- and will cut through the freq. of a whole band going at it,- precisely because of the pushed midrange. All in all a smart combo on any Tele/Strat hybrid guitar. Put a wah, a phaser, a fuzz, an overdrive, a chorus and a delay on it and you´ve got David Gilmour, Robin Trower, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Brad Paisley and Johnny Hiland going for days... Enjoy. :)

Thanks John, did this simple Mod to my home built “Nashville” and I’m so, so pleased!

PMSL on this one. I seriously considered one of these, but kept thinking I couldn't live without my favourite both pickups tele sound, so I would immediately have to have it modded in some way. I eventually stuck with what I know and went for a standard player series. Nice to know I'm not the only old stick in the mud out there! 😂

definitely a difference, in middle pickup vs neck and bridge, there was more top end on the combined PU combo.

Brilliant mod that makes a big difference. It's even easier on a Strat if you use a no load blender pot. Rewire the middle tone pot to a master tone for all 3 pickups, and use the bottom tone pot as the blender. No push pull or mini switch required, and it's more versatile in that you can adjust how much of each pickup you want. It's not difficult to convert your original tone pot into a no load pot, Six String Supplies RU-vid channel has a good video about it, also how to wire it.

Yep. Any three pup tele models should come with a switch of some kind to get that classic tele bridge/neck sound. A good mod! Thanks for the video.

I did this to my Strat for the same reason (I missed that sweet middle position Tele thing) and honestly it's my favourite setting now, great mod.

The difference between the bridge and neck pickups, and just the middile is enough to have made it worthwhile installing the switch in my opinion. It's more alive with the bridge and neck pickup setting.

Nevermind my health John - how are YOU? I remember back in the 70s, when it used to be just a plain old Fender Telecaster. Now it's a Fender Player Plus Nashville Telecaster - the world is so complicated today!

Useful mod! I'd love to pickup a Player Plus Nashville Tele, but it's $1300CAD. I recently found a Michael Kelley Triple 50 (Nashville style) that is only $670CAD. But I had already put the Seymour Duncan Twangbanger in my Player Lead II to give me a reasonable facsimile of Tele Strat hybrid, and it sounds awesome enough to avoid buying any more guitars for now.

Use a push-pull pot to act as a coil split switch.

I kind of feel stupid after this. You make it all look easy John. I would probably ruin my guitar if I tried any of this or burn my hand off.

John, never understood why the strat doesn't have this option. Bridge and neck is much better.

You've improved that model, John. I've never been a fan of the Nashville as I like the space in middle for strumming.I'm just a strummer ..lol

Does the mod, when engaged, also turn the two intermediate positions on the 5 way into all three on?

Great video. Quick question if anyone can answer. I've a 60th Anniversary limited edition 1952 repro in natural wood with a lovely diamond inlay at the tail. But the neck pick up has always sounded fairly muddy. Is this normal? Is it the original lady sound for jazz?
@JRobsonGuitar
@JRobsonGuitar 2 года назад
Not sure... I seem to recall reading that, originally, with the selector all the way forward you got the neck p/u with a capacitor in circuit to roll off the treble. This may be what you have 👍

@@JRobsonGuitar thanks John. Its not an unpleasant sound. But cos of the nature of the guitar I'm not gonna tinker with it
