This video is HUGE for me. I have a collector box that basically broke (my fault -- I was trying to carefully move the muffler exhaust pipe on the right side, to shift it down out of the way when I was trying to get at the bolt for the Final Drive oil change... Pushed too hard and whoops! Snapped the collector box. DARN!!!! (Insert several swear words here...!) Thankfully I have a cadaver bike as well but I was stumped on how to get the collector box down without necessarily having to take the entire exhaust system down. Unfortunately, watching your video clarified that indeed the whole thing will have to come down; but -- #1 now I know; #2 I know what else is needed (exhaust pipe gaskets!, etc) to do the job correctly. Yup, more time wrenching, but I'll have this bike good as new when I'm done with it and hopefully will keep it on the roads for several more years with a little TLC. Thanks for taking the time to put this together for us weekend warriors! :-) Sure do appreciate it!

Just wanted to say that you do a great job explaining working on these Wings as you go. My current Wing is a ‘95 SE anniversary bike in the same color red as yours. This is my first GL1500 although I’ve had a ‘78 GL1000 and a ‘84 Interstate, as well as a ‘08 HD Ultra Classic. I am enjoying watching your videos as I am learning my own 1500.

Dude I'm so glad to hear that that is awesome! I'm glad you're getting some solid information from them. I got my first wing as a wreck and I had to figure it out in reverse and I thought I think there needs to be some videos on this because some people are going to need to see this for a little help! I have an 84 naked goldwing I'm going to be doing something sick with as soon as I get these two off my plate.

Great video. I'm right in the middle of all this myself. Getting ready to go back together. What did you use for the gasket tack? It looks like the old 3m yellow snot,,,lol. Thanks

I'm not even sure exactly which brand that was to be honest with you and I'm not at my garage but you know you could use grease if you needed to it's really just to hold it in place

My muffler is stuck tight where the clamp was. Any tips for getting it loose? I hit it with a rubber mallet but it didn’t help. Thanks for the video’s.

It takes a list of twisting and tapping to get that one out

I’m in the process of only removing the left header to replace my shifter gasket. I don’t see that specific part in your video. I tried to remove it only but there is not enough room and I don’t want to force it. Are you sure I can only remove the left header by itself without removing the collector box or do I at least have to loosen the collector box to get more flexibility?

I only filmed the right side but at some point in the video I walked the camera over to the left side and did a quick talk through and then I have a video for the shifter shaft seal

@@Sleazy_rida right. I get that. My main concern is if I only need to remove the left side header would I damage anything by applying too much pressure while pulling down the header and then pulling out of the collector box?

You should just take it off... It's only two bolts on a band over by the collector box after you have the header separated. Really, don't try to work around it
