Gladiator was a one and done film it was one of the best looking and emotional films of its time. Russell Crowe was the perfect man for the role anyone else is just a copycat and its cop out basing it round this one being the son of the last film its too simple and so over done.
I'll be watching it on opening day just because I did the same for the first one and was an awesome experience back in 2000, however, if this one is successful, I don't think Scott can make Gladiator 3, he is 86 now. Maybe half way through and some other director picks it up after he dies mid shooting? Zack Snyder? cough cough...
I agree. I'll still watch it, and it looks visually epic. I'm sure it will be good, but it probably isnt going to be as good as the first. Russel Crowe and Ridley Scott actually started coming up with ideas for a sequel immediately after the success of the first.
Yeah still not feeling this, I’ll stick to the original. It can look amazing and stuff but I just can’t seem to care or get hyped for films especially modern day films.
Looks even worse to me after seeing this trailer. Complete rehash of the original with repurposed lines. I heard 3-4 rehashed lines of dialogue. They've decided to up the spectacle of the fights and spend an absolute fortune on it. This movie deserves to bomb. It's unoriginal. They basically have new fill-in characters to serve the same roles as the previous movies. There's the Juba replacement character, the Commodus replacement character, the gladiator trainer replacement character. You have your 2nd rate Russel Crow fill in. etc etc. If they could've came up with their own unique story that took place following the last movie & maybe didn't just try to rehash the Gladiator thing, this might be interesting, but when all you're doing is just making the exact same movie with different characters to fill in the exact same roles of the previous movie, it's just garbage to me. Hey, let's make a water/boat gladiator fight. Let's put some monkeys in there. Let's put a rhino in there! Maybe we can put a dinosaur in there!!! How about King Kong!!!
That's interesting. I made the mistake of going to the cinema (against my better judgement) to watch The Force Awakens. Within 15 minutes, it was obvious they were doing exactly what you describe to the original Star Wars film. It was almost a scene by scene remake, with different characters filling in the narrative roles of the original cast. Except without any of the charm, grace, heart and imagination of the 70s original, just with extra ersatz girlbossing, nostalgic member berries and a grim CGI glint in Harrison Ford's craggy eyes. It's a mistake I won't be repeating with Gladiator - and whatever other 20th century cinematic corpses they dig up to violate next.
It is TOTALLY OK to have a story told in one single movie. I still see no reason to see a Gladiator 2, much less a reason to make one. And a THIRD one? Seriously?
Caracalla was a very masculine and intimidating guy not the effeminate powdered faced weirdo presented in this film. Plus him and Geta could not stand each other and lived in separate towns.
It feels soulless: in the line deliveries...and the a over the top delivery of the music seems to be overly compensating for this! Also propping up this Gob of slop is a CGI puke Fest more reminiscent of Jumanji...which was a straight-up fantasy film in which it mostly worked for: but for this This Monstrosity?!!!!!! I could go on but I wish to continue my day with the least amount of brain ruptures as possible... 😊
Instead of Gladiator 2, if they wanted this film to have a chance, it would be a film that takes place in the same timeline, loosely connected at best, and call it something like Gladiator: Fall of Rome or something. Or Gladiator: The Time is Nero
Ridley Scott being a filmmaker for decades and close to being almost 90 at age. I’m not surprised if he just want to have fun and make as much movies as possible. I love the first Gladiator and can’t wait for this one.
Gladiator was brilliant but people need to realise the films not called maximus, it's about gladiators in general. I'm excited to see the 2nd one and if done right I have no objections to a 3rd. Apart from sparticus, those about to die, there's not alot of gladiator type movies around and it's a fascinating part of roman history.
Looks brilliant. So much better than the childish crap we got fed these past 10 years. But the main problem remains; why Gladiator 2 ? Another sequel. Really ? Why not make/adapt a new story ? Trillions out there. Persian Fire for exampe. However, would love to see a Roman-like series (again). Or who knows a Byzantium-themed one. Or why not do a Gilgamesh-thingie or a (fill in the entire history of the world; literally everything is waiting to be mined). Great stuff out there. But nah. Let's make a sequel, prequel, remake or a reboot or a reboot of a reboot of a reboot. Can't disturb the locals too much innit?
Did he write this story? Did he write the story of the first Gladiator? Or even Alien? No, those stories were already scripted and he just came in as director, make a few tweaks but mostly made the sets and cinematography look beautiful. Everyone thinks this guy is some kind of genius when he simply has a certain skill-set. When was his last great movie? 2000? It's also a collaborative effort. The age of great movies is more or less over. I hope I'm wrong.
I wohld have preferred the other Gladiator 2 that someone had pitched. The one where Maximus fights his way out of the afterlife or something like that. Stupid yes but it sounded more interesting than this rehashed garbage.
The original Gladiator is overrated as hell. I loved it when I was in my teens, but seeing it now I see how paper thin it is. Its derivative of other movies, & the characters are one dimensional. Avatar gets so much flack for this, but Gladiator is called a masterpiece, when it really isn't. The CGI has aged poorly. Those digital sets have aged poorly & stick out like a sore thumb. With Ridley Scott's awful sequels Hannibal & his Alien prequels, I doubt this will be great either. Take into account how paper thin & unoriginal the first one is, this is likely to be another forgettable movie.
Ok that's your opinion and I respect that. That being said Gladiator is my all time fav film , followed by Master and Commander. Another Russel Crowe film. I'm obsessed with history and most importantly ancient Greek and Roman , so having Gladiator was incredible at the time and still, since we don't get much films about this anymore. Granted there were problems historically but it's not like the new Napoleon movie that I waited years for just for that movie that was pissed all over on historically
Don’t even put Avatar and The first gladiator in the same sentence. Gladiator is competent and well written and had Richard Harris, Oliver reed, russel crowe, phoenix. Avatar is just CGI with no basic story snd awful dialogue. And the CGI has aged already.
Because everything has to get milked, unfortunately. They should have left Terminator alone after the second, and Matrix after the third. These stories already had a good beginning and end. But they just can't stop. Legacy killers. All for the dollar.
The film should have another title, but part of the Gladiator saga. I think this one will focus on bringing down Rome instead of a straight revenge plot.
Sorry, the American accents just take me right out of the moment. They couldn't afford to pay Denzel or Pedro to have an English accent? Ugh, I love Denzel's movies, but that American accent from him and Pedro, stick out like Kevin Costner in Robin Hood. Es no bueno
Hey, I liked Kevin Costner in Robin Hood; granted I wasn't even a teenager when it came out but it also had Morgan Freeman and Alan Rickman. A lot of people actually liked it.
@@DanChernikov Point being, his draaaaawwwwwwllll stood out like a sore thumb. The ish took place in England, and yet Kevin had a Texan accent. I never said he was a sh***y actor, i said his ish stood out in a bad way. Kevin's accent stood out the most by far
To me it seems unnecessary. The first ended with closure and this seems to undo everything Maximus died for by emperors still being around. It may be a good watch, but not needed. Like the fourth Matrix movie.
Why they do this? I maen this naming , Gladiator 2, Gladiator 3, Gladia.... ?!! Sure, they want to make movies about gladiators, but come on, try to name those better and more originally 🙄 but yeah, most likely straight to streaming service trash no matter the name or how the trailer looks.
i know this would be much better if it was it's own thing. Name it Lucius and it'll make it much more accepting by fans. It keeps it in the same setting while not piggy backing of Gladiator so much. Everyone wins.
Gladiator didn’t need a sequel no, but this looks honestly very good. I just feel like they could have made it about a different gladiator instead of trying to tie it to Maximus’s story. This should be a stand alone film but hopefully it is great as well
If this was supposed to be a direct sequel I would be more interested. The forced tie-ins to the original are unnecessary. The original doesn't need a follow up it's perfect as is
I was thinking, if there really had to be a sequel to Gladiator (which there shouldn’t be) then perhaps a better concept would be to have Russell Crows Maximus in the Roman afterlife having to face and overcome trials set by the Roman gods (or something to the gist of that)?
Please no. The gods were taken on faith, much like today's religions. People can't see their god except maybe in their heart. You pray, you go on faith, but to have a trial of the gods for a spectral warrior would completely shatter any concept of reality and what loose historical accuracy this film may have, if any. I'm studying Roman history. Give me a straight on piece of history. From the Roman Kingdom, to the Republic, to the Empire there is damn near a thousand years worth of Roman history to choose from, countless campaigns and intricate political happenings that we don't need to "make up" history.
Going to see this for the sword and sandal action and set pieces. The story and the characters don't really seem to have any allure. Oldman Ridley Scott in a nutshell.
I hate the cg animals. The monkey moved like the back breaker. Thought it was Gladiator Covenant for a moment. It also falls into the unnecessary trap of “FOR ROME!” in everything for the last quarter century. I will actively ignore any connection to Gladiator to just enjoy it on its’ own.
Well another Matrix is being developed Starship has 4 Animated follow-ups GI Joe is joining the transformers universe Tomb Raider (animated) is coming Conclusion: these poor franchises lol
Alot of spectacle, I wait for trusted reviews. If Im going to see it in the theatres, it must be excellent. If average, no interest. I won't tarnish The Gladiator♥️
This looks surprisingly great, but whenever you put a 'verse' on the end of anything, it cheapens it. Whether it's a movie series or a comic world, it makes people look like a money hungry fools that don't respect the people who engage with it.
Maybe its the "2" thats bothering you! Maybe they should have taken the Alien route and call it Gladiators, And just for the record, so glad the hiphop music is gone!
Better trailer ,the musical score is definitely better than the first trailer released with the rap music, personally I don’t think D. Washington suites a Roman epic either he’s an action movie hero cop type and the two brothers make the Roman Empire look lame and limp wristed .
I am intrigued that I will pay money to watch but this latest trailer they just spoil a plot point that Lucius is the son of Maximus. I don't think it will be woke
Looks like the same movie dialled to 11.... as a sequel nah. The original was a great film but the politics side was pretty poor compared to the film spartacus. I will watch it for the over the top fights and the recreation of the sea battle in collaseum which was done twice in real life although I hear in the film that's not enough so they added sharks. Facepalm if true.
I have literally ZERO interest in seeing this. Trailer wasn't bad but im just not interested in seeing a sequel to a masterpiece that didn't need a sequel.
I like Pedro and Denzel , but they are miscast in this, especially Denzel who looks like he’s still in Equaliser mode in fancy dress. I’ll give this movie a miss.
