"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next"
The last movie I ever saw with my father in a cinema. We both were absolutely thrilled about the scene and THIS MUSIC! Before he died he cried by hearing the soundtrack. So I played it at the darkest day of my life- the day of his funeral. He's gone for over six years..and still I'm crying when listening to "Honor Him"..
Please remember they always remain with us.. by our side..I always like to keep in mind..that,s just a kind of metamorphosis..when the worm changes into a butterfly..he goes to the net level
I'm very sorry for your loss, man. May he rest in peace. That's a very touching. losing a parent is one of the hardest things to deal with in life. May you find peace through his memories. This movie was one of the last things I watched with my old man too. I still remember how excited he was about it. And for 20 years I have not had the heart to watch this movie without him.
@@NiCoNiCoNiColaHell of a reference. And to the original comment I offer you my condolences but also hopefully that the comforting memories of that relationship is something that you’ll continue to be able to hold onto.

+Roberto Torres You sir, do not deserve to be on the internet and comment. Please return to the safety of your small mindset and for gods sake, do NOT, I repeat do NOT talk to any other human being.
@@frmj2 for god cuz one day we will all die and we will go and wait for punishment and see what we have inside our book. Some people they will go hell and others to paradise i wish that i will join my father there 🙏❤️R. I. P dad
Today my grandfather was buried. This song where playing at the start of the funeral. I hadn’t seen the movie Gladiator but this song stuck to my soul and my grandfathers soul. This song was for me made for him. He was basically the best, funniest, kindest and who had the best stories of his younger days. For me he was the coolest and kindest person I ever meet. The stories he told my father and the whole family about his jokes and how it was in the WW2 as a German solider as 16 year old. How he became a prisoner in the French prison, how he and other prisoners tried to escape the prison. I have inherited the most iconic, coolest, and the things that I truly know he loved. I am proud to carry his last name and to grow up with him as my grandfather. ----------------------- I hope I will be like him as I grow older and be buried in the family grave where he lies. Grandfather you were loved by all and your time on earth spread joy, wisdom and love on the planet. Rest in peace Grandfather.😘🧖🏼♂️👴🏻😔🙏
@@danielw5466 Anyone who takes pride in what anyone in their family did while on the side of the Nazis is a Nazi, so no, fuck off with your contrived argument. Even Germany bans shit like this so piss off, Nazi-sympathizer
@@Typhl0gia There is no 'pride' to take in being naziscum. Nor does that ideology or anyonw who follow it deserve mercy, for they give none in return. There is no place for Nazis.
I visited the Colloseum recently, and I could not stop crying while listening to this song. The beauty of the place is amazing, as well as the enormous amount of sadness for everyone who fought there.
hicimos lo mismo mi pareja y yo pensé que eramos unos raros por hacerlo , ahora veo que no, las lagrimas rápidamente salen, al verse rendido ante tal belleza.
@@longlivingdude yes, I do not. But can we trust ourselves that there's a chance for fair and bright future in such a world as it now without of any changes? I don't think so.
This is one of a handful of great movies for me. Not just because it was a great story, great acting, great direction, great music, etc. but most importantly it showed the great love a man had for his wife and family. Marcus never succumbed to temptations and that is not an easy thing to do. He wanted to do good by his family and when his family was killed, he wanted to not only take revenge, but to do good for his country.
Each time I hear this song I realize the true sense of life, important things in it and the people who are important to me, the rest is air and dust, air and dust! People are designed to create happiness and to help to live in purity, not in poverty, to help, and to love and to be loved ones! Maximus is a real image for one great man who defend its goal to end! He takes revenge for his family. We should live and insist as he does!! Such a powerful movie! There are no words to describe it!!!
DESDE LA PRIMERA VEZ Q. ESCUCHE GLADIADOR ME CAUTIVO ES RELAJANTE Y 💚 HERMOSO ÉSTE TEMA. NOSE SÍ HABRÁ ALGUNA PELICULA EN PARTICULAR. PERO YO CUANDO ERA. UNA NIÑAA ME GUSTABA MUCHO LSS PELIICULAS DE COMBATE DEL TIEMPO.DE CÚANDO EXISTÍA. ESOS TREMENDOS HOMBRES MUSCULOSOS Q. ME FACINABA VER. Y AHORA ME RELAJA EL ESCUCHAR ÉSTOS TEMAS. COMO.EN ÉSTE CASO "GLADIADOR".
I was still a step away from crying with emotion, I wanted to cry, this song moves me with happiness, it transmits good memories, it makes me remember people that I love and admire with all my being. I want to tell the person who made this song that he is a genius 😭.
My dad struggled with cancer for 14 years, his fight which he knew he was gonna lose, is for me reflected in this movie. The soldier of Rome knew he was gonna lose, but confronted his fate. All a man can do is smile back...with a head held up high..
I marvel that in such simplicity of musical construction there can issue forth such unforgettable power. I feel as though I were in a church with no words...
'simplicity of musical construction' - composing music, great music that is that communicates and touches audiences, is far from easy! It takes a lot of time, consideration and editing when choosing the right harmonies, melodies and instrumentation. The process for film composers, I can only imagine, is very arduous 😊
Some music you simply have to hear until the end... Even when you know your dinner's currently burning on the stove. Hans Zimmer, one in a billion music composer.
This song's harmony is absolutely emotional. How is it possible that melodic sounds through the air transmit such emotion to us? Beautiful, thanks for sharing.
this music shivers down my spine. This is a masterpiece for sure. It shakes your soul the more you listen to it. It compels you to something great in your life so people honor you like the great Maximus...And all of this leads to the fact that YOU have a purpose in life which you must find and fight for till your very last breath.
I just genuinely don't understand what kind of person would dislike this. Not only is it an unbelievably passionate and peaceful song, but the movie is one of the best ever. I just don't get people sometimes.
I think this song is appropriate for those days when we bury our loved ones and remember the good times we spent with them. I start crying every time I hear this song because it just conveys this emotionality
J. Phoenix plays one of the best villains ever!! Still among my favourite movies !! If all would have a chance for revenge, how good and sweet would be. Keep fighting!!
This is perfect. It’s like Hans Zimmer distilled Ancient Rome and put it into a bottle, and now we can drink it. I can close my eyes and feel the sun beat down on me in an Olive grove, people passing in their tunics and men donning togas, mosaic pavements that meet the marble columns and stone arches
When I was sixteen, I won a great victory. I felt in that moment I would live to be a hundred. Now I know I shall not see thirty. None of us know our end, really, or what hand will guide us there. A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus," or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice. Remember that.
Thank you for posting. What a great message in the movie to never give up. Each of us has a destiny to do right and our duty no matter how many trouble-makers wreak havoc.
Easily my favorite piece from the entire film. Gives me goosebumps. Also has that unmistakable Hans Zimmer sound, like in the song "A Way of Life" (another gem of his from the film The Last Samurai).
This is my favorite theme in the movie and I love this extended version. This is my favorite movie of all times. Strength and honor. I wish he had not died in this movie, I wanted a part 2 so bad.
Why would you even want a part 2? The Sequel will destroy the Originals legacy. The most Brilliant movies are only a single Movie, and for good reason. Just as the greatest Books are a single book.
dude this is one of the best clips on youtube!! This saves me so much time, I used to watch the whole movie everytime I wanted to experience this theme, now it's a bit easier :D Of course I still watch the movie every now and then, heh.. these pieces are the kind of music that seriously touch you, like it's amazing how powerful just a few notes performed artistically can be. The same notes just in different order etc. have been used to produce absolutely crap music that means nothing and wokes up no feelings. I find it fascinating..
There's probably only a handful of Movies that can make a grown man shed a tear... To include The green mile and this... the gladiator... awesome film... love the soundtrack... knows how to play on the emotions....
Such a great song from an era when movies were still stunning. If Hollywood would focus on historical movies now, they'd win. They focus on Wonder Woman instead. Sad!
This is one of the greatest stories ever told with the medium of cameras. Perhaps someday people in the future will study and see this movie the way we still love ancient epics like the Oddysey and the Illiad.
