Clips taken from X-men cartoon series of my favourite Marvel comic hero Gladiator (Kallark) - He can fly through a freakin star, he carries a ship...his only weakness is self confidence
And Gladiator is a reference to the Wylie's Gladiator 1930 novel which inspired original (bulletproof one) Superman in the first place starting from 1933 up until official release in Action Comics #1 , it is why in AC #1 Superman Only has super stenght and durability. In 1939-1940 while Wylie was trying to sue DC/National for ripoff ofc Siegel denied similarities, but in his own memoir in 1978 he straight up lists Gladiator as one of inspirations, along with Hercules and Samson and John Carter from Pincess of Mars, especially later on when in Superman #1 1939 lower gravity of Earth was added as one of reasons behind superman's strenght (besides that , in original Siegel canon, all supermen were super strong and fast and durable even on their own planet Krypton, and they were called supermen originally, not kryptonians, basically just more evolved men-humans, because in 1934 version Superman wasn't even from another planet but from future Earth). And triangle on his chest is upside down one of first versions of original Superman's logo. Honestly Gladiator is just an example of absolutely magnificently made ripoff, it is clear what kind of character that supposed to be, but also they went So creative it just feels super right.
@@robroy2 yes but Thor wasn't always a joke, it was Taika Waitities who did it on purpose. All he wanted was a payday. Thor was for the most part a bad ass, especially in infinity war and end game.
@ Yeah i guess the -New gods- i mean the eternals and the Liu Kang movie are way more important than THE FREAKING X-MEN and characters like Gladiator (who im pretty sure wont ever be because god forgive having a male character that is stronger than Captain Marvel)
They were going to include the Shi'Ar empire into Dark Phoenix (it was also rumored that Jessica Castain's character was originally going to be Lilandra). Unfortunately, the Disney-FOX merger derailed those plans.
Gladiator probably lost quite a bit of confidence after Rogue socked him one, thereby reducing his power levels. Rogue didn't absorb any power, but she was still able to harm him at his reduced levels. A similar instance occurred in the comics, where Gladiator was knocked into a building by Cannonball. He lost confidence because a lesser being (such as Cannonball or Rogue) dared to attack him.
If I'm not mistaken the Gladiator's strength is based off of his confidence. The higher his confidence the stronger he is. He must have been extremely confident when he first came to Earth. I guess his confidence dropped later on, making him a little weaker.
@@javroosta88 But she didnt here, and maybe her ability needs a counter, would like to see another mutant have the ability to change the state of his energy so that if one absorbs it it will affect him/her
“Princess, I serve ‘the Throne’, and your brother sits on that Throne. Perhaps we should consider a new form of government other than a Monarchy, such as maybe a ‘Constitutional Republic’?”
How amusing I find it that people complain that Superman is too strong, but whenever anyone else makes their own version of the character, the tribute is stronger than the real steel deal and nobody complains about that. Go Gladiator! :D
Fucking badass GLADIATOR! One of my favorite Cosmic Characters along with SILVER SURFER! I remember watching that during my childhood and GLADIATOR always wow'ed me as a child until now!
Gladiator has never killed anyone so far as I know. Working with psychopaths or sociopath - you can't honestly tell me that a majority of Justice League is sane, esp. Batman.
@@metal87power Honestly, Superman is probably the most sane. Atleast his sidekicks are his indestructible family members and can actually endure bullets and crowbars. Batman will just give a kid a month of karate lessons and expect them to be a miniature Jackie Chan. It's a surprise none of the Kid Flashes have died.
do you have any comic book recommendatons for Gladiator? I'd like to read more about him. Loved this X-men series in the 90's especially in this episode.
@@eddierascalhaskell4954 I think we all can agree that, Marvel's X-Men The Animated Series, is in a league of it's own. I like Justice League an Batman TAS but I'm a Marvel Fan boy
Gladiator Kallark, Marvel comics' version of Superman. I'll say he is. Even his name - Kallark - is a play on Clark, as in Clark Kent, Superman's civilian identity AND Kal-El, Superman's Kryptonian birth name. Kallark = Kal-Ark. Kal for Kal-El. Kallark = Cal-Lark. Remove the first "A" and the extra "L" and you have Clark.
I think of all the Marvel expies of Superman (3 in total) that Gladiator is 2nd of them in power. Sentry is the first (A Million Exploding Suns, stalemating Galactus and WW Hulk) and that Hyperion is the weakest of them. Gladiator has twice fought Thor and held his own. He defeated Hyperion and he also fought Mindless Hulk to a brief standstill. Then of course, there's this incident here where we see him effortlessly deal with Juggernaut.
hulk is stronger than any comic book character, and sentry didn't stalemate ww hulk. read the comic again sentry was down for the count while hulk was still unknowingly destroying the east coast until ironman stepped in to bring down an already weakened hulk
Yes, but I was referring to celestial and cosmic beings such as silver surfer, galactus, the celestial, 's entry, beck even hyperion. I just wish hulk fans will stop with this he gets stronger the madder he gets crap.
***** No, sentry hyperion thor gladiator flash superman shazam wonder woman supergirl thanos darkseid apocalypse captain atom captain marvel TOAA The presence odin captain universe anti monitor green lantern silver surfer etc can beat hulk. The list goes on.
They both are variations of Superman! Hyperion, however, does share more of Supes's back-story. It's just a way to show how one with these powers might act differently.
This is truly an awesome cartoon. I'm glad its finally coming to DVD after all these years. I have pre-ordered mine from the Amazon Store and they should be arriving very soon.
There's sexual tension between Gladiator and Rogue! That's why she was able to fight as long as she did..hid only weakness is self doubt or any weakening emotion.
Gladiator has an allegiance to the empire and will kill for it whereas superman has an allegiance to America but not kill for it, his personality is just like captain americas. Gladiator would be a much better fighter due to his many interstellar wars versus superman's training from batman.
real talk Gladiator is an Officer in the Shi'ar Empire. Superman just has a Really good relationship with the American government (most governments on Earth, really). However, he is Loyal to the US and Kansas in particular.
The scene where Rogue smashes a column on Gladiator was taken right from the comics, but it was Colossus instead of Rogue. Also where the structure collapses and he walks out carrying her.
@@johnbakasmoothhotchocolate Actually this is the re-dubbing and not the original voice (I have the VHS taping off the first airing on TV and his original voice is more exaggerated and less monotone than this). They redubbed all the US voice actors to use Canadian voice actors so that they didn't have to pay US royalities.
@@QoQabai658 One, he clearly said: "This proves." Which it doesn't. Which I addressed. Two, you're right. Juggernaut is not gonna beat Supes. And Supes most likely won't beat Jugs in a test of physical power.
Marvel came out with an issue years ago featuring Surfer vs. Gladiator. I still have it in my comic collection in a large plastic tote. I still remember how I nearly jumped through the roof of the store when I saw the cover! I don't know if you heard of it but they also did a Thor vs. Gladiator issue that was a pretty awesome fight also!
The way your man bowed with his hands out with mercy like it's an honor you knew Gladiator was badass! But Juggernaut... Why are we listening to Mr. Bad hair day?😂😂😂
I hope we get to see this Rogue in the MCU...drain Captain Marvel of her powers so she can hold her own against Gladiator in a proper Phoenix Saga film...
@@paulcotton5096 Even if they recast her it wouldn't matter because Captain Marvel was never a great character to begin with. Rogue is a far better character and far more relatable.
I was about to say; his sounds way different and better! Never heard this one before. I think they changed it, because it was the same voice actor as Cable and Eric the red and just about most secondary characters in this show.
Love this show as a kid and currently been reading inhumans/GOTG marvel series of comics by Dan Abnett. Was a big fan of Gladiator. Had no memory of him being in this cartoon though. Great stuff
People actually BELIEVE THAT!!?? HAHAHA talking about overhyping a boring character to oblivion Thats like saying that Naruto can defeat SSJ God Goku, especially considering characters like..well Gladiator or even Sentry
Hmm but if rogue took off her gloves her fight with gladiator would have been one sided in her favor. Only true loss is immortal hulk? I believe. I could be wrong it is all matter of opinion.
he is clearly based off superman and you can tell by gladiator's weakness, powers and name kallark, (resembling superman's kryptonian name kal-el and his earth name clark) also by analyzing gladiators description like he is an alien with a super physiology, his weakness is a rare form of radiation and his powers are very similar to superman and marvel seemed to throw in the confidence thing so he wasn't exactly like him, but his mannerisms and personality are completely different.
"Gladiator! I have secured Lilandra. I deserve an audience with the Emperor!" "You are fortunate that I am not your emperor. I would not allow you to flaunt your blunders as a victory flag!"
+XmenMagnetoAcolytes it may have been one of his "weaker" punches but no doubt still an extremely powerful punch nonetheless. Still powerful enough to cause a thundering sound on impact as well as making the whole surrounding area shake like an earthquake.
@Colin Jones - Because Rogue has the powers of Captain Marvel or Ms. Marvel whichever you want to call her. She absorbed Ms. Marvel's powers awhile back in a previous episode making her very powerful.
Right. When I saw the show years ago, I though Juggernaut was the one who was overconfident and didnt punch Gladiator at full strenght, and get caught by surprise by Gladiator's strenght and tossed away.
Hyperion is the exact marvel's version of superman...he too is powered by sunlight..like Superman's weakness for kryptonite, Hyperion is weak against argonite...that makes me think, if superman's from krypton, then Hyperion should be from argon...
