After 30 yrs on the bike and all the accidents I love my Rzr. It was actually sad seeing the bikes that were out there that wouldn't even go for a jump.
It’s sad kids can’t experience this anymore. It’s not the same. They don’t have to put in physical effort to achieve fun. I think that right there is a big problem with the younger generations.
Growing up in the 80's was a lot of fun. Today, some park ranger would be handing out tickets left and right. I'm glad I had experiences like these growing up. Thanks for posting
Brings back the roots. The good days of not paying for camping, permits, licensing and general government extortion. When things were fun without a pain in the ass and pocket book.
I use to live in Yuma az. circa 1970s and we were free to do what ever we wanted No cops no Toilets tho but we made our own out of buckets and such , good times going in and out of Mexico for tacos and beer lol . Noww you do that at Buttercup imperial sand dunes and you may be in jail smh , where have all the good times gone , we even would bring M80s and half sticks of dynamite and blow stuff up :) :)))) i finally stopped going in 2008 due to age and work injuries :(
@@cesarcesar8545 I remember camping at Buttercup in the late 80's and doing a ride into Mexico to some Corona beer distributor in that town, loading up with a bunch of beer and ride back over the border fence in a section that was knocked down, on our way back to camp. Good times back then.
Thank you Michael for posting this. I grew up in the 80's going on Ocotillo Wells and Glamis runs every summer, but for some reason NOBODY ever filmed any of it. Only a few snap shots from a camera to remember those days. Watching your video really brought to life how carefree and relaxed going to Glamis was back then. 3-wheelers ruled the dunes. My first bike was a Honda 110, then I graduated to a Honda 185s bored to 200cc. watching the kids playing together and rolling down a hill brought back so many memories. My sister, cousins and I dug huge pits in the ground at our Glamis camp, then covered them with scrap wood meant for the fires at night then covered them with sand and made underground bases. We used snow disks and rope to pull ourselves behind the ATCs. Such good times. Im all grown up with my own family and kids now, whom I just started taking to the desert. I still have all our Honda ATCs from the 80's and we take them out now with the next generation of kids. A 350x, two 200x, two 185s' and the old 110. It isn't quite the same as when I was a kid and the grown-ups took care of all the hard work and worry, but it is cool to see my own kids enjoy it like I once did. Anyways, thank you so much for posting this. I am so glad someone has footage of this for the rest of us who didn't film our runs to enjoy and get a great dose of the good old days.
I'm about the same age 16 1985 we also went to Ocotillo Wells and Glamis I remember Ocotillo Wells had one sand hill we would camp on edge of a dry lake bed about all I remember. Night riding was the best at Ocotillo Wells was fun trails were sandy and soft which made riding on them nice. You ever go to Baker, CA. I don't even know if its open anymore I remember got off the highway 15 in Baker at a Chevron gas station. There was a dirt road that lead from behind the gas station into the desert go about 20 miles camp there. There was one sand bowl and I remember across a valley see train trains at night see the train light. We would ride to the tracks there were piles of old railroad ties strap one to each bike and carry it back burned in our camp fires. The trails had lot of tall brush could get lost easy once buddy broke down I went back got lost ran out of gas. Had to walk back to camp and by then it was dark they walked back really pissed but what could I do.
All of the money present day that those Honda ATC's would bring HOLY there is an ocean of them in this video......What an amazing looking into such in awesome era in motor sports.......2 smoke in the Air, big bore bike on the pipe MAN! how cool
Hodge's Hot Wheels and diecast anyone can go into a Polaris or Can Am dealer and sign their life away for a new side by side, but nothing beats being built
Cool video. Reminds of me back in the 80's on my KX 80 ripping it up in the gravel pit behind my house. I miss those days. I still ride 2 stroke mx bikes even though I'm pushing 50 but the whole American experience today is just too much. The 80's will always be my fondest years. They were simpler times and we had just enough technology to be happy like Atari, answering machines for out land lines, and we all played outside and weren't a bunch of whining sissies.
If I could give my kids any gift it would be to grow up in an environment like that the 80s gave me. I see what these kids today think is normal and it's really sad.
In 1985 I bought a new 350X in El Cajon. I loaded it in my truck and was driving it back to Sierra Vista AZ where I would then ride it when I came home on leave. I drove down the I-8 on a Thursday and stopped at the dunes. There was no one there. No idiot park ranger telling me I am disturbing the sand, no sand rails doing 100mph, no bikes no nothing. I rode for 3 hours up and down dunes and then went swimming in the Canal. I loaded up my 350 and started heading back home, I was soaking wet, had sand everywhere, a bike in the back and a smile from ear to ear on my face. Did not see one other living soul for the entire 3 hours.
from Escondido,Ca. I remember my friends and Brothers went out there with our CR's and XL's Honda's back in the late 70's and early 80's Had lots of fun and thrills also at Blow-sand too. Great Video...Just like "On Any Sunday"!!!!
Thanks for sharing. Same time we use to go also, I rode a Honda 350x and my wife rode a Honda 250sx, We both broke our arms at different time in Glamis, She went to the hospital in Brawley and I went to Yuma...LOL Good times!
Dec 24 2022 I went out in my air-cooled 82 250r atc running on vpc12 coolest vibes not a million people an no crazy dust, it was perfect I'll hook up my go pro next time.......
great video love it :) looks a lot nice then from what it is now. wish it was more like this out there now day its all of the big sandrails and trucks rip it all up now :(
I grew up in Washington state so Glamis trips were rare for me but we would still get down to coos bay OR and sand lakes 3-4 times a year. Those were the good old days.
Safety what safety Helmets for the kids what helmets Kids 6" away from the fuel tank Battery 2" away from the gas tank,oh The good old days Thankfully it usually always worked out good though Even in the 80s there were starting to get too many people Thankfully We started going in the 60s
A scrap of chain link fence over a fire pit. Add Carne Asada. Maybe an evening ride before crashing out. Not sure America will ever again see such good times. Glad I got to.
Suchhh a great video! The glory years of the ATC. Everything about this is 'totally rad!' Thanks for sharing!!! oh, and, Whatever bike that is idling around 3:00 is leaner than sh!t. lol
I love these 3 wheelers that they made back then. Seemed way more heavy duty and everything about it. Now a days you flip something or hit it, chances of it bending or worse something cracking and breaking a part.
Sure brings back memories used to drive there with my buddies had dirt bikes and 3 wheelers I had an 87 KX500 and had a Honda 250r 3 wheeler. Load up in my old 72 Pickup truck that truck had zero electronics in it had 2 gas tanks run on one tank till the engine quit then get to 1/4 tank fill up again. 17 years old driving all the way from LA to Glamis after school we get there about 2am find a spot. Watching those videos look so low quality compared to my memories being there. I remember one year we brought a Christmas tree burned it up went up in about 20 seconds. Another year my buddy GF broke up with him right before we left all he did was mope around keep asking if we cold go home. What a drag he was finely I got sick of him we left only after one day went home. Never saw that guy again couldn't believe guy get so whipped over a GF at 17.
@@Hyundairobitdog I made one more trip in about 2012, was given a nice rail to use. I lost my aggression. You have to attack the dunes. I did OK but wasn't that young ball of fire I used to be.
If you ever wanna ride a bull, just try riding an ATC 110 acrossed rutted sanddunes first, it's literally a motor on a rigid frame with wheels attached to it, that kid complaining about how bumpy it was is a legend for doing it at all lol
Just sold my 250R 2 stroke HONDA ATV 3 wheelin was the best, your right too many rules and regs now, its a shame never be the same. plus a just turned 69 so i guess it was time to give it up. dreams
