Beautiful Castle and grounds. I was born in Texas, USA and did a DNA test. Always thought I was mostly English, French, and German. Turns out I'm A lot like 60% Scotch and Scandinavian. Might explain why seeing pictures of Ireland and Scotland and neighboring countries always made me feel like I was coming home!
I always am blown away by how much detail and excess went into everything back then. They made things as though they thought the materials would never run out (I'm sure that's just exactly what they thought too..lol)..fine woods, animal pelts, rugs, ivory, fabrics/tapestries, everything spared no expense..
Great video. Thanks for sharing. My 3rd Great Grand Aunt lived in Glamis Castle during the 1820's & 30's. She was married to Thomas George Bowes-Lyon, Lord Glamis the 11th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne. They are the Great Great grandparents of Queen Elizabeth II. I hope to visit Glamis Castle one day soon.
My great grandfather, James Brown Morrison, worked here as a gamekeeper in the late 1800's to the early 1900's. All but one child was born here. My grandfather, George Morrison, was one of the children born here. Wish I could post a picture here, my great grandmother, Mary MacKenzie Morrison, was invited to Windsor, Ont., Canada, to have lunch with the then, Princess Elizabeth, in 1951. It made the front page of the Detroit Free Press, she stands showing a trinket that the Princess gave her as a souvenir Would love to visit the castle and sign the book. :).
+windstorm1000 I would go if I had the funds. But, since my brain surgery, I've had to go on disability, and you only get enough to live on. So so hard to try and save to get there. One of these days maybe, but I'm turning 59 this year; and time is of the essence. So, I think you can understand my predicament :)
im from malaysia. our family lived in scotland for 3 years, and we've visited many castles. i was 5 and the only vivid memory i had in those 3 years is glamis castle. i hope to visit scotland again one day=)
I liked the daffodils, remind me of home. I thought the whole video was a rare beautiful treat. Playful classical, it is the root stalk of alternative punk and jazz blues. Cheers!
Glamis castle also has many ghosts and legends--including the mystery of the castle so horrible that all the Lyons men are sworn to secrecy about it. also one of the windows supposedly is extra
***** Having been there myself, of course I have my own photos. Being that it was 30 years ago, I had to take the photos in three different shots, just so I could get all of the castle in. Plus I have some long shots as well. Luckily, we were staying in St. Andrews for three weeks, and also luckily, there was an inexpensive store in town that developed the film, so I didn't have to wait until I got home to do it. :)
I don't know to upload the photos, or else I would. Also, the photos are 'buried' in the closet under a pile of boxes. (sigh) A much needed winter task to get to them...
Its nice, certainly for a 17 centuray castle, personally i like more the Neuschwanstein castle because of the extremes, but may Mad Ludwig got his inspiration from castle like this one in scotland.
Lovely images. Still images. Perhaps we're naïve, but one expects a RU-vid "video" to include moving images. We can all find similar lovely images of this castle in a library book. But of course we wouldn't have the chamber music in the background.

+Harsha Weeraratne the connection is probably remote but there--her family is the Bowes Lyons--many of the clans were connected--we need a clan expert to unravel the connection, if any.
My family ancestors come from the Kings of Ireland in the 1300s. I have always liked castles. Just NOT MONARCHY RULE or Dictator rule ! Very Evil, No Freedom and no better morals than the rest of mankind. That is why our Forefathers gave us the Constitution, Bill Of Rights and FREEDOM so we would not have to live under the THUMB of Monarchy Rule or Dictators. No Freedom there. What is with the heavy music ? A pretty castle though.
I did a quick look up of lyn ells and it seems your ancestry is directly linked and associated with sanitation. It seems your ancestors were diggers and dorrows of dung heaps.
England and Scotland has full of Haunted castles and Mansion's. Creepy and interesting in the same time. I Really want to see in this Huanted Castle in live :)
