Looks like a pretty hip spot! Canvas tents are awesome to have on windy days because they don’t flap around and make a bunch of noise like a regular tent. They also breathe a lot better. Only drawback is the weight. I think mine is about 70 pounds, love it though!
We have been living off grid in a 16X20 canvas wall tent for a little over a year now. We use an outhouse and an outdoor shower. We are pretty much learning as we go.
The tents are often called Bell tents or Wall tents. They can even be “winterized with a wood burning stove. Some come with a hole in the roof for the stove stack.
So excited to see your impressions of the the UP. You mentioned Mastique but I hope you’re not missing Tahquamenon Fall, or the Picture Rock National Lake shores. Lots of great hiking at pictured rocks and other beautiful waterfalls. Some of the most number one things to do in Michigan! You can take the pictured rock boat tour ….that area is a must not miss!!!!! Love watching you both enjoy my beautiful state of Michigan!!! My count down for camping up there is Five days. Yahoo
Next time you cook with the Dutch, put tinfoil down first and coals on top of foil. Keeps the cold and moisture away from your coals and reflects the heat up towards your Dutch oven. Works like a charm, but can cook a little faster. 🙂
Nice hip camp, the glamping tent looked spacious and ventilation windows along the bottom ,great idea from manufacturer. The pizza recipe looked so easy to put together, and it looked perfect and delicious. Thanks for sharing this video with us. Sincerely, Shay's Ways
Kellie and Cody thanks for lifting my spirits and making me smile... how relaxing is this camping spot , just gorgeous, love you both 😘 thanks for your continued amazing vlogs Cody and Michelin star episodes Kellie. Ciao Wendy 🇭🇲 in 🇮🇹 ❤️✌️👋
I remember when canvas tents is about all that you could get. A Boy Scout camp all of the tents were like the one you are staying in now, including the wooden platform. The ones we carried on our troop campouts had no platform. They were heavy and could keep you warm in the winter and dry when it rained. I had a canvas 2 man pup tent that lasted many years. Is there a canvas tent in your near future?
I’ve had those ovens for 30plus years and never knew to put something on top for the temperature control. I’ve retired mine now and use a two burner stove with oven.
ok im sure your n the UP already, but just in case, here are some cool things to do: GO to Taquaminam falls, whitefish point, the Soo and definetly take the boat ride through the locks, Oswald Bear Farm, Tipi Kipi ferry over the natural springs, The boat ride to the Pictured Rocks, and the glass bottom boat to see the ship wreaks, Fayette historic coal town, Bond Falls, Wagner Falls, (just some of the over 500 ish falls in the UP), Porcupine Mts, Copper Harbor and Wilkins fort (this town is so cool ), go to the scenic road to the top (out of copper harbor)...........Just a few of the points of interest!
It's so fun to watch you travel my home state Michigan! She is a jewel this time of year! You will love the UP! Hope you are still there, we will be camping at Bay Furnace State Forest campground soon! ALSO you must visit Canyon Falls, it's amazing!
The pizza looks amazing! Going to have to try it. The campground is awesome. Yurt style tent. I am headed to Colorado in July for a camping trip too. Cant wait.
I had to look up what a hipcamp is. We have thought about allowing handicap hunting on our land. I can't wait to head u.p. north this friday. I just bought some new cast iron pans. Escanba is cheaper than Manistique for geoceries. We were surprised by the selection in Manistique. Better than local groecery store at home. The little store in Germfask has expanded they have a lot of stuff. The old church is pretty cool. The only bad thing about the U.p. is we never have enough time to do everything we would like to. Plus working building a homestead there. Gotta go put brick in the wall. Next week I get to work on digging my root cellar and building pavillon frame u.p. north.
MAN!!! i'v been wanting to go to the area you guys are at for a few years now and watching you're Michigan trip so far has made it even worse. im living in tennessee now but i grew up in ny by lake ontario and i want to take my girls to michigan for that big lake experience so badly now. love the content.
Awesome HipCamp - putting it on my bucket list. Sounds like you are meeting allot of very nice Michiganders and getting lots of ideas for traveling our beautiful state …. Guess I’ll quit sending you ideas because it’s taking myself over 40 years and I still haven’t seen everything this great state has to offer! So much to see and do 😳😊⛺️🤷🏼♀️ Have fun exploring Michigan Cody and Kellie - and when can we order your cookbook? I just haven’t perfected that pizza recipe yet 😮
I love Michigan! Growing up in Georgia the only thing I knew about Michigan was Detroit. That all changed after making friends with people from there. I have a made a couple of trips over the years traveling all over the LP, and some of the UP. I would move there today if I could. After 40+ years of this never ending Georgia heat and humidity, and living in a cesspool (AKA metro Atlanta). I’m ready to take my chances somewhere else.
I know the tent configuration as a yurt but I have heard other names for them. Beautiful property. The details put into the outhouse (gorgeous) are awesome.
My uncle has a cabin just outside of Manastiqe. If you see a Clyde's You need to try the Bison burger. You can get a huge one. It's either a pound or 3/4 pounder 🤣👍🏻👍🏻
That camping spot was amazing. Kelly you're officially turning into one as a couple when you said loving it loving it, that was Cody 100%. LOL and something else you said exactly the way he does too had me giggling. You two are too cute ❤️❤️❤️😁😁
You should come up to Missouri to the glamp tents in Big Cedar Lodge by Bass Pro Johnny Morris. Just like this but on the edge of a lake. The fanciest tents you'll ever stay in plus they all have outdoor tubs and a fence around it for privacy. They are actually decorated with Bass Pro decor and air conditioners/heaters.
That was a really nice camp spot and so was the last one. I love that so many folks are making good use of their land and making it available with hip camp and harvest hosts. Its a win win for everyone. I am looking forward to visiting the UP with Y'all! Simce I've watched all of your vlogs from.the first one, I have started saying, " That right there" . I love how we have different ways of saying things. You say, We purchased this item". I say bought. Just interesting things to note. Cheers! When I moved to North Idaho in "91", they called a soft drink POP. In California, it was soda. Also a grocery bag in the north is a sack. 😃
Quick question.. What was the white stuff in the little tub you put in the Alfredo sauce after putting butter in? Looks delicious 🤤 Love watching your videos ❤️❤️❤️
Hummus toast and pizza to die for (~);}!!! Have you ever put the hummus veggies on a pizza? I bet it would be amazing!! Again thanks for sharing and safe travels!!!
I absolutely love bell/wall tents and we have contemplated living in one. You can also set them up with a wood stove. There is a RU-vid channel Girl in the Woods (the creator is Brooke Whipple...she was on the TV show Alone) and her and her husband Dave lived in one while they built their off grid cabins. They actually live in Michigan! I highly recommend her channel. That Hipcamp spot looks amazing! My parents had a super cool old school canvas tent in the 1970s that I went camping with them in when I was very young. As usual great video! I have to try that hummus toast recipe. I bet it would be really good with fresh mozzarella and basil! Happy and safe travels to the UP!! -Hedy (edit: Kelli I should share the recipe for our Vampire Slayer pizza we make at the restaurant I work at. It has roasted garlic puree, ricotta spread, cheese blend which is mozz, parm, and gorgonzola, and Genoa salami. It is finished with fresh basil and cracked black pepper. I think you could whip up something similar and for garlic lovers it is absolutely incredible!!)
Yum, pizza. You guys do such a great job in logging your travels. We look forward to everything y’all do. By the time you get this, you will be in the UP. You guys will love it. Another great job . David and Juanita
When you have time could you do a post on your drone. You get great high shots would like some pointers. I usually have problems seeing it and wind issues. Appreciate it! Great job
When you're making your loop back south, if you come through Iowa there are places you can boondock for free in NE Iowa, often right next to good trout streams.
Kelly if u wanna try a new workout I don’t know if you heard of him it is bodies in motion was Gilad Janklowicz he is really good he is awesome he does everything
Love birch it's one of the only hard woods we have here in our region of BC, smaller chunks can put out just as much heat as larger chunks of pine and we prefer to season it for cold season camps or winter ice fishing trips.
Putting stalks of rosemary on the hot coals of the barbecue emits an aroma that fends off mosquitos, while adding sage to the campfire or fire pits keeps other bugs away
I would love to have some property so I can make a couple of hipcamp spots on it and would totally do that tent setup. If I'm ever up that way I would definitely look at staying there.
Boy does that toast look YUM! Campsite is gorgeous, put it on our favorites already. We plan on going up one of these days, we're on our way to Destin in September.
You folks should look into the Kodiak Tent designs. They make a flex bow design which is very easy to set up after driving in the stakes. They make two different sizes , 10X1- and 10X14, and a few different models of each. The top of the line is the VX model with loads of ventalation posibilities. They are very H.D. with breathable duck canvas and top of the line YKK zippers. Breathable and no fly needed. Competetive Edge out of Salt Lake area is their largest dealer and ships all over the U.S free. Not actually that expensive. If interested in Canvas be sure to research them. I HIGHLY recommend them!
