My best friend passed in 1979 when I was fourteen. His father and brothers were going to see The Shadows at the Apollo, and the father gave me my friend's ticket and took me along. It was a great concert and I have fond memories of it, but sad ones too. One brother is a well-known performer in and around Glasgow, Gary the Busker. RIP Malcolm McAusland, gone too soon but never forgotten.

Whenever Toyah plays Glasgow, she still mentions the Glasgow Apollo, the bouncing balcony...... and how Demis Roussos got stuck on the stairs! I dont think any other venue has ever been held in performers memories quite as a much as the Apollo. Thank you for sharing

I attended many a concert at The Apollo : from Bowie , Genesis, Yes, Supertramp and Van DerGraaf Generator , Jethro Tull , Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow , to Elvis Costello , The Stranglers , John Cooper Clarke ( I didn't hate him - I thought he was brilliant ) , Leonard Cohen , Peter Gabriel , The Skids and more . Brilliant venue . Sadly missed .

Brings back lots of memories. My first concert was the Beach Boys at the Greens, mid-60s., never dreaming I'd end up living down the road from them, in California, for 40+ years!

You were lucky to have seen the beach boys at that time. I wish I was in California with you right now, needless to say it is pouring with rain right now here in Scotland. Thanks for watching and commenting John

A refreshingly original and ambitious documentary, guilty in places perhaps, of taking itself just a little too seriously but all said and done, only someone like David Belcher could have written this and Alvin Stardust is very likeable and adept in the presenter role.

My first gig was at the Apollo November 8th 1974 - Queen and ticket cost £1.25..still have the poster I bought from a seller after the gig 50p... great night and great gig..saw others there over the years...these type of gigs were the best as outdoor and large stadium gigs don't have the same atmosphere but I guess times move on.... great to see inside the venue again...thanks

Saw the Police, the Cure, SLF, the Boomtown Rats, the Clash (2x), Richard Hell, the Coventry Specials, Suicide, saw Blondie blow Television off the stage, 999, Stranglers, the Jam, the 2Tone Tour, Rezillos, Magazine (upstairs), Ultravox! (John Foxx), blah blah blah. Place was a dump but wasn't aware of that when the great music was kickin' in. Thanks for posting this. So good to see Louise Goodall with her punk rock blond hair too

Story of my teenage years! Too many gigs to mention. My best memory was meeting Deep Purple at the back stage door after soundcheck. David Coverdale's first tour. They were so friendly. Also Queen as the support act for Mott the Hoople. Lynyrd Skynyrd as support act for Golden Earring. These are the real golden memories.

It really was a shame that it was demolished, they can take the building, but they cannot take the memories. There's a great Facebook page dedicated to the Apollo, where you can download, for free, many full concerts. Just login to facebook and search for "rescued recordings from the glasgow apollo". Thanks for watching and commenting Ian.

I joined Unicorn Leisure in 1974, just after Frank Lynch took over the Apollo. These were great days, Unicorn a that time had a host of entertainment venues, most of them discotheques. Although I didn't work at The Apollo, I was asked to go there twice to help out. One was for the Rod Stewart concert, and I was also allowed to invite my older brother. During the concert, it was my task to roll onto the stage from the side, the footballs, for Rod to kick into the audience. I got my brother a pass to join me backstage, his memory was of Rod passing us with a bottle of brandy in one hand, and a beautiful blond girl on his other arm. I also helped out when they hosted a live large screen performance via satellite of the Ali vs Foreman fight from Zaire. It seemed that everyone who was anyone in Glasgow was there that night. Frank Lynch was a great guy, a real visionary. It was Frank who introduced me to Jan Tomasik, when he appointed him as the new General Manager of The Apollo. Although I was only 18, Frank Lynch always spoke to me whenever he visited the venue where I worked, and I treasured the advice that he would pass on to me. I was only with Unicorn Leisure for two years, and on my last night of work, Frank Lynch drove out to wish me every luck and success. My time there proved to be a great start in my business career.

I was born May 1987, Two years after this venue was gone. I've heard many stories about the place. So many legendary bands took the stage. I really just wanted to see what it looked like. Shame that something that had such a legend surrounding it was such a shitehole, haha.

Great video! I know you've probably been asked this a million times - but is there anyway I could get a DVD copy of this? My first gig was Marillion at the Apollo on 17/2/84, Rick Wakeman and Phil Collins both in 1985. Nowhere had such an atmosphere like the Apollo... David

@@ScottishTeeVee yes building was down in about 2 to 3 wks,,real shame,,clearly set up by the council who i think were adamant they didn't want the venue as the secc had just opened as a venue,,even though bands hated it as the sound was so bad at the secc.
