Kind of funny that you post a video from the UK During the middle of a pretty uncommon cold spell while the weather now is in the middle of a equally uncommon hot spell.

To those outside the UK - roasting here means mid 20C's and a heat wave is when it reaches 30C lol. I love being British and don't have an issue with our weather here but let's face it, most countries would consider this weather as an ideal day to go out for an afternoon run.

The cone on the wellington statue used to be pranksters, the council kept taking it down until eventually they stopped as people just kept putting it back on, realising it was more dangerous to keep "inviting" people to climb up and stick the cone back on. People take the piss here though, was walking past it to work last week and there was 9 cones on. The horse also had a cone to make it look like a unicorn, which by the way is the national animal of Scotland. Hope the weather didn't put you off Glasgow too much, we loving getting visitors.

It is a fire door with a closure device. It is compulsury in rented buildings.
@stevetaylor8698
@stevetaylor8698 6 лет назад
Yep, kitchens are considered high risk fire areas. If you notice, when the door is open there is a dark strip down the centre of the door. This expands when it gets hot and forms a seal, preventing smoke and the spread of fire to the rest of the building.

@kydeanderic
@kydeanderic 6 лет назад
Makes sense!
@martincurrie6243
@martincurrie6243 6 лет назад
I'm not complety cogniscent on the latest fire regulations , but most flatd have to have a sealed hallway from the bedrooms to the front door. None of this opening straight into an open plan living space in US apartments. But some newer apartments do this, so I assume they have other fire safety features that means those regs don't apply. I do know you more than two storeys in a house, no room should be open to the staircase and all doors should be fire doors.

That plant with the folding up leaves is called a 'Sensitive Plant' Botanical name is 'Mimosa Pudica' They have thorns, grow purple fluffy flowers and produce seeds in pods that you can dry out and sow the following year. As a child, between 8-10 years old I used to grow loads of these plants in our green house and sell them to neighbours for 10 shillings (50 pence) to make more pocket money.

I don't know about Kyde's tombstone but Spike Milligan (a British comedian) said he wanted 'I told you I was ill' on his. When he died his family tried to have that done but the cemetery wouldn't allow it. So they translated the phrase to Gaelic, as the cemetery didn't know what it said now, it was allowed

Why is the cathedral so dirty? Well it has been standing there for nearly 900 years. It probably picked up most of that during the Victorian era when Glasgow, like everywhere, was thick with smoke and smog from all the industry and residential chimneys. During the 80's and 90's it was the thing to sandblast our sandstone buildings to remove this and get that shiny clean. The trouble was they found out later that that process did a lot of damage to the stone work which made it vulnerable to the elements. A big regret. Thank goodness they didn't do this to the cathedral!
@richardturner9317

yo! The kitchen space is a major source of 'fires' and the door is a 'Fire-rated' self closing door designed to isolate a fire in that room and enable you to safely escape, especially if there is only one exit from the apartment and/or the kitchen opens on to that exit route.

@John Doe - the higher areas of the British Isles tend to get snow every year as Mike has mentioned; this is less than 5% of the UK. Scotland, being the northern most country of the UK is more likely to get snow, Wales is also more likely than England to get snow. England is the most densely populated and so is a few degrees warmer around the towns and cities and so snow does not last as long.

One of the reasons your bathroom was cold is that you smothered the radiator with the large bath towel, insulating the radiator and stopping the heat getting into the bathroom. Only completely cover the radiator if your towel is soaking wet - otherwise just hook it over one side of the radiator, leaving the rest of the radiator free to heat the room.

If you want to do something you can only do in Scotland then I would recommend just hiking in the Highlands or visiting an island of your choice. Perhaps you already have? The landscape is unlike any other. It's broody and severe - but in an astonishing way. It's not cutesy and idyllic like the English countryside. Neither is better or worse, just different. I'm not even Scottish but I still go up as much as I can because of it. Also, on the Irn-Bru, the government has forced companies to reduce the sugar content of the drink, replacing it with sweetener. It now tastes disgusting! I am still angry about it!

I just stumbled across your channel. I'm a bartender at the Ubiquitous Chip. The bell is just for the kitchen to let the staff know that food is ready to be taken out. And the traffic cone on the statue isn't an "Official" thing. Drunk people kept putting them up there on the weekends and it became a bit of a landmark.

Take the towels off the heating thing to get a bit more warmth, also running the top tap into the bath might help, you are creating a radiator effectively, also with more moisture in the air you will feel warmer as it makes it harder to perspire.

FYI, the heavy door for the kitchen is because it's a fire door. It's a building regulation that, for the kitchen to be where it is in the middle of the building, it requires a self-closing fire retardant door, which is why it's so heavy too.
