I saw a concert/demonstration of the glass armonica at Colonial Williamsburg a couple of years ago & bought CD's of the music. Both the sound, and the instrument, are very delicate. And beautiful!
Ben Franklin was truly an amazing man. And to think that he lived in the American colonies, of all places. That would be the equivalent today of finding one of the world's greatest scientists living in the wilds of Africa. I guess that's why he's on the $100 bill.
It's hard to find an armonica to try or practice on, but you might want to try an hydraulophone. The hydraulophone is very similar to the glass harmonica, except that hydraulophone also lets you play microtonally, i.e. you can "bend" each note of a chord independently, to make it sound even sadder or to express other fluidly flowing pieces. Search "hydraulophone" on RU-vid to listen to what it sounds like.
$6,000 - Thats really cheap, I want a Viola da Gamba and they start at £8,000 ($15,843) and thats hardly worth playing. Its the old case of make my own! I suggest you research on bells as these bowls lack an S curve so actually sound awful, God alone knows what bell curved glass would sound like.
We had glass jars I often heard these as a child. We had a harmonica but we had pianos too and organs. I love this very much. My grandmother was a church organist. The church music was heavenly. I missed so much hearing music. I have a tongue drum that I love. Thank you so much for this I love the harp. I live in a city where I’ll hear birds but every afternoon sirens. I wish I heard music instead.
Haha I came because of black butler ll nd I was lik woah Hannah made the playin of it look so unnecessarily perverted but it's such a pretty sounding instrument :)
Never heard of lead crystal wine glasses? Check your glass cabinet at home, and you're sure to find elaborately cut glass, most of this will have lead in it as it makes for a better glass.
The Glass Armonica a instrument created by Ben Franklin. The sounds it produces is very beautiful long ago from the origins of it's creation the people of the times that listen to it's tunes would say it was a voice of an angel but it is said that the frequencies of the glass would cause the people listening to it and the musician playing it to go insane losing their minds driving them mad.
The History Channel video mentions a CA glass company. In addition, the Wikipedia article says Finkenbeiner, Inc. of Waltham, Mass. makes them. I also saw & heard this for the first time at Dean Shostak's concert in Colonial Williamsburg last week and he mentioned that he had Finkenbeiner's make his.
i sooo fucking want a glass armonica... i saw this episode a few weeks ago and i was instantly mesmerized by it and wanted one... soo beautiful and i would feel that i had died and gone to heaven too.. sooo insanely beautiful and chilling but heavenly... Ben Franklin was an absolute genius god... screw Pianos!!!! this is absolutely much more beautiful and epic....
1) Benjamin Franklin: An inventive genius and a US traitor loyal to the crown who tried to undermined the war effort for independence from England by delaying French involvement. But Franklin ultimately failed to stop the formation of the US states. 2) Also, the US is supposed to be a constitutional republic not a "democracy" (4:35 min). A democracy is mob rule over the rights of the few, but not in a true constitutional republic. Get it right. Rights of the individual matter.
That the head(s) of state and other officials are chosen by election, rather than inheriting their positions, makes the state a republic. A democracy or democratic republic allows political minorities to be oppressed by the tyranny of the majority (collectivism) in the absence of legal protections of individual or group rights. The USA was designed to be a constitutional republic that limits government power with a constitution that includes a Bill of Rights to ensure individual liberty (individualism) and by separating executive, legislative, and judicial powers into distinct branches.
Democracy is, in a nutshell, majority rule. The Constitution lists the rights of the government and people, but is subject to majority rule, as constitutional amendments can be made if ratified by 3/4ths of the States. There is nothing inaccurate about referring to the United States, as defined by the Constitution, as a democracy, other than maybe corporate influence on public opinion and policy. The United States was never intended to be a place where a person or group could simply choose to not abide by laws without expecting legal consequences. None of our founders were anarchists; sorry. Also, it seems that many people are unaware of what authority the Constitution grants Congress. The beginning of the document is a good place to start (Article 1 Section 8 should clear up a lot).
"There is no doubt that America would not have won the Revolutionary War without France's financial and military aid and that Franklin was almost entirely responsible for obtaining that aid." www.pbs.org/benfranklin/l3_world_france.html
Dude. What kind of bad weed have you been smoking?! Benjamin Franklin was the "oldest member" of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, who, on September 17, 1787, in Independence Hall, signed the U.S. Constitution! Where the hell are you getting your "misinformation from?! MSNBC, or perhaps NPR? What an idiot!
