Loved the video concept&have a studio myself were i produce songs that are mainly alternative underground music which doesn’t just entail hip-hop! I prefer smaller creatives because they are just more true to their craft & how bone thugs would say is “true house underground shit” which you can’t go wrong with that style if your true to yourself being original! I saw souls of mischief in July & they are epic which is a rare setup thats not particularly rap but a hip-hop band i’m a big fan of weather its linkin park or P.O.D that still uses freestyle without taking on to much elements of what imagery rap music is because its all about communal purpose of building WILD STYLE ✊

De La Soul bucks against his whole argument all day. I don't agree that Hip-Hop is JUST about the struggle, but it became the dominant narrative within the hip-hop community. There were different styles of hip-hop that balanced the artform in the Golden Era. For every NWA or Geto Boys, you had a Will Smith, Kid N Play, De La Soul, etc. It reflected a diversity that got lost IMO in the mid-90s when more street oriented rap music was being pushed and supported. To say Drake and Kanye lack of a struggle makes them NOT Hip-Hop is Asinine PERIOD. Their contributions stand on their own. Struggle is a part and not the totality of the themes and outlooks reflected in hip-hop.
@djstackademikz
@djstackademikz 7 месяцев назад
Hiphop is a culture started in the streets of the Bronx. Rapping is an art form Hiphop is a culture. It’s 2 different things. You can be a rapping pop artist. Being that the culture comes from the ghetto it’s a certain lifestyle people in all ghettos across America have to deal with in one way shape or form such as bad schools low income housing government assistance no father or no parents highly populated communities heavy crime areas knowing of murders and other heavy crimes at a young age or seeing dead bodies or hearing of alot of ppl you know die from certain diseases being in middle school with girls getting pregnant the school having programs from girls getting pregnant a lot of people on drugs roaches rats knowing drug dealers high level drug dealers and killers growing up around them i can go on n on about the things normal people living in the hood just working and going to school can identify with more with the gangsters then middle class suburban people. He’s right in that sense although the music definitely does not have to always have a criminal element to it or praising that lifestyle.

@@djstackademikz we can agree it started in the streets but the expression comes in all forms. Styles, trends, etc. change with time. Run Dmc came from a nice place in Hollis Queens and they are definitely hip hop. You don’t have to be from the slums to be considered hip hop. Kanye is definitely hip hop just by his beats alone before he dropped College Drop Out. Bink didn’t say anything about Ye stealing his, he said that about Just Blaze. And how we know Jay did ask Just to Make those type of beats. Glasses is the type who wants his opinion to be right and excepted when is just an opinion. Hes the one that made that stupid song Tupac Must Die trying to be artistic that know one bumped. And Kim kardashian was a 10 back in the day and is still great looking. I like the way Glasses Carries his self but opinions and point of view is only that. I do agree about Travis and Uzzy Vert not being Hip Hop they are recording artist with their own style. Knowledge can edify&brighten the future so long as propaganda doesn’t harm street culture which it does a lot so knowing “whats what?” is hard without knowing the history i’m glad to share!✊

Also, Hollis Queens where Run DMC is from is an upper middle class neighborhood, the Rollin 60s is upper middle class that's why some people called them the rich Crips, Baldwin Hills in the Black Beverly Hills and the P Stones are around there. Idk what he is talking about. Most big time Street dudes came from the middle class not super poor. Supreme, La Barbie, Big Meech are all middle class. Hip Hop started in the 70s for a back to school party jam, for all different classes of black families living regular jobs in underprivileged and middle class neighborhoods. It evolved into street rap in the 80s during the crack epidemic. It became a national culture during the 90s. It became international in the 00s. It was digitized in the 2010s. Now in the 2020s its one of the biggest global cultural influence, second only to politics. Everyone in these eras thought Hip Hop was one way and were wrong the next decade. A culture that doesn't grow and excludes, is a culture that dies. Just like tiktok rap, soundcloud rap, crunk, snap, ringtone, boom bap, mumble, scremo, east coast vs west coast, clout rap, drill, backpacker rap, etc... they will all have a time to shine and speak to all cultures of an alienated person regardless of color or background. Then it will die, hip hop will evolve and live as she always has.

Drake was also raised by a white mom in a middle class home in Canada with universal healthcare. And he just happens to be an actor which would help him with playing a role, imitating a character. Kanye never took on a character, he came with his artistic expression from his hood adjacent, educationally privileged middle class perspective. I think he stretched the confines of hip hop and music period. Experimenting with new sounds and combining shit no one ever thought of. Drake fails to really come from any perspective tied to struggle or hustle or black power, etc-. And he hasn’t pioneered any new sound or flow that was dope and that heavily influenced the next generation like Kanye did before him. He feels like a pop artist who raps to me which is probably why you seem to keep him out with no difficulty

Or De La Soul or Will Smith. His arguments falls apart when you just look at the history of hip-hop alone. To much diversity. Even the narrative of the struggle imo is less important in today's rap climate. Materialism, aspiration for the good life/money, misogyny, etc. is way more appealing themes now!!!

This is where you need a black kid who grew up in the suburbs in the 90s/2000s to speak about this because he only has a perspective of a guy from the hood that thinks if you live in the suburbs you around mostly white and barely no blacks, which is so far from the truth. Especially in that time period.
