"This video provides an introduction to the impressive glasshouse vegetable production systems that have been achieved in the Netherlands, and highlights the techniques, technologies, practices and innovations that have enabled this tremendous productive capacity.
The success story of how “this tiny country now helps to feed the world” - as is shown in this video - has resulted as anywhere where raw innovation is inspired by the need to improve and become more efficient, rests on these many very creative and hard-working people who have pioneered to bring completely new agricultural paradigms to reality."

what people always forget about the Netherlands is that the country was and will always be a farmers country, in fact, Netherland was the first European country that starts exporting its fruits, vegetables, cheese, and flowers through the back then dutch east India company, they monopolize every port they could to export their goods, at one point the dutch had control of more ports than England, Germany, France, and Spain combined, the dutch were the ones who introduced Europe with the art of trading food across the sea, the Dutch have always been innovating when it comes to agriculture, so its no surprised that they are dominating the agriculture industry worldwide.

I have a question maybe a silly one but maybe someone can/ wants to answer it. So I live in the Netherlands and comparing vegetables to other countries I traveled to where they use old school soil as growing material I tastend big as differents in taste. The ones growing in soil are smaller maybe les pretty but more flavorful compared to the steril glass house veggies I ate. So I was wondering if the nutrition (comparing the soil grown veggies and the rockwall aka : insulation material) has anything to do with it. Also what the hell Do they put in the rockwall because it does need nutrients to be able to grow that big no?

Maybe it's a question of lack of stress or interactions with pests or herbivores. In these greenhouses everything is so controlled that the plant doesn't strugle to survive. Usually plants synthetize bitter or aromatic compounds in response to environmental harasses; if they "feel" sure probably won't waste energy to produce them. And probably growers sell better uniform, perfect but maybe tasteless vegetables all over the world.
@alexandervlaescu9901
@alexandervlaescu9901 Год назад
Taste depends from plant to plant. The staple garlic flavor is derived from chemicals that the plant produces to ward off insect or whatever would try to eat it. On the other hand tomatoes derive their flavor from various carbs synthesized while the fruit is still on the plant and with the help of proper lighting. Just comparing tomatoes grown in our country with another purely from a greenhouse vs traditional soil cultivation tells you nothing. You would need the exact same variety. Similar climate conditions (from lighting per day to moisture to temperature , etc). Similar nutrition given to the plant and many similar factors.

The ideal scenario is to do well for yourself by doing well for others. There is no shame in profiting if is by doing good for the mutual benefit of all. However, after your needs are comfortably met and you are rich, it is even more admirable if you look for ways to use your wealth to benefit humanity even more (like Musk’s missions encouraging free speech and space exploration). It is sad when people allow greed to overtake them and end up harming others in pursuit of wealth or wasting resources on frivolous luxuries like yachts or multiple mostly vacant mansions. Excessive greed is a personal failure of prioritization and empathy, where a person always favors their own wealth even after additional wealth gives them little to no utility. It is the same as a person who overeats and becomes unhealthy and obese while others starve around them.

The fact is Wageningen university isn't there for the country as a whole ,.. its goal is to generate more income for the state and separate investors . in horticulture there's a lot too gain ,.. dairy farms not so much . its depleted . It looks its all for the better good but its all for the money .

Paul C, at least they try to speak another language.. How many foreign languages do you master?
@marcderuiter1404

Dear Paul, how many languages do you speak? And how fluent are you in those? At least we try to learn a language in order to communicate. And many people only learnt Dutch when they were older, so it is not easy to speak it well, without an accent etc. I speak Chinese, English, Spanish, German and Dutch. I am at least making an effort instead of being perfect. Maybe giving a compliment would have been a bridge building exercise?

He's trying his best. I don't think he speaks the language on a daily basis or from a young age, so he's not as proficient as most. Either way, it's the content of the matter that is more important here.

Learn how you can grow your own food than we don't need to sell our food in order for the English to get some food on there plates.
