Management at the mystical Chalice Well at the foot of Glastonbury Tor - according to legend one of the possible locations of the Holy Grail - have come under fire for removing a much-loved statue of a mother and child.

Removing the statue is like a attaque on the Divine Feminine. This statue is for me a representation of that divine feminine energy. I feel very sad about it.

It is not “back”. It is on the floor in an adjacent meadow that, as I understand it, is not open to the public.

How clever and very manipulative of the trustees, to claim they take away this statue, because its a copy of another one, which artist is a child predator. Its done by people, whom have no problem with that, but know that it's a reason the normal people can accept. We all know WHY they tear down western statues!!

Depends on the reason behind the statue's removal. Yes, I agree. The statue should remain. It was there for a reason. However, it's future is paramount. Where is it going now? That's crucial for it's location. Is that location an important one tied in with the statue's original purpose?

So, it was removed due to `allegations`?? Was he convicted before death or are these simply more stories? And, it wasn`t even made by him. The world has gone mental

The truth about Gill was revealed in his own journals after his death. He was a monster, who subjected his daughter to terrible sexual acts too awful to mention here. A statue of mother and child is integral to the garden but not by Gill or any of his copyists.

@@user-ol9gz1wp1b I don`t believe the artist was a copyist, but simply inspired by a work of Gill`s. I think the connection is tenuous, to say the least.

erasure of history is only to make room for something else, something new. losing a point of reference prevents people from making mistakes, as well as no longer having a point of reference for faith, culture, and perspective, even when it's bad history, as well as when it's neutral, or good history. -what's supplanting it, is the question.

Honestly, what this has to do with work by another person, who wasn’t associated with Gill as a friend, but only as an artist whose work he admired, confounds me. Get a grip, people! Such ridiculous ideas about the general public’s ‘sensitivities’ are completely over the top. Ludicrous, in fact. I’m not a believer in any religious hype, invented as it was by male humans in order to keep others in control, but this removal of an innocent work of art was unbelievably crass, as it gave comfort to those who do believe. I’m glad it’s been returned. Art is art. It’s not as if this was pornographic, after all.
