You were walking away from the Pyramid?Did you see the Stones? I'm guessing it was pretty busy by the time you got back.

I got back to the same spot with about 10 minutes to spare. busy is not the word, the main entrances to the field had been closed and I had to make my way round from the back. Being on my own helped, would have been very difficult to get a group of people through the crowd.

So basically if your not near the front, you can only hear the music? No screens or or chance to see the acts?

No, not really. The pyramid has screens either side and behind the mixing desks (i think), the other stage has screens either side as does the West holts stage and park stage. The rest of the stages are small enough not to need them. All of this is evident from the TV footage...

stevenstaffy Yes and no. I've been to Glasto 10+ times and have camped in most areas. We normally like to camp in Park Home Ground as it's convenient and not too far from the action and the main thoroughfare of the site - the railway line. In 2013 though we got there relatively late (Wednesday afternoon about 2pm) which was deliberate, the previous two years we had arrived at 6am and had queued for 4 hours each time, the first time in a heatwave (2010) and the second in continuous rain (2011) and by the time we got on site Park Home and the other areas we liked were all full so we weren't up for doing that again. Arriving much earlier wasn't really an option - the 250 mile drive takes around 6 hours and we didn't fancy turning up already tired. So we plumped for arriving around lunchtime but knew this would mean we would have limited space for our camp (there were 15 of us in 6 tents). So the only space left big enough to make camp for all of us was on the periphery and so a fairly long walk to the action. Pros: quiet area (we're getting old you know!!), lots of space even when the rest of the site was full, fewer people stumbling past in the night looking for their tents and falling in to yours, relatively under-used toilets and the walk to the action is only really about an extra 10 minutes. Cons: "nipping back to the tent" obviously takes much longer, further from the gates for lugging stuff to/from car (or in our case, minibus), but that's about it. It all depends on what you want from where you camp - crazy party atmosphere: get yourself in Pennards, but be prepared to be knocking on the gates at 2am and running for it. Chilled atmosphere? then somewhere like Baileys is perfect.

stevenstaffy thanks for that mate ,yeah i am getting too old for a 5 day party ,a couple of days is fine lol, really want somewhere to be able to chill out at night so might go with baileys, ive bought a decent trolley (proper tyres so the trek wont be so bad ,weve got a 5 hour drive so i booked a prem inn 14 miles away but theres only me and the missus so we dont really need to be queing judging by your comments, so gonna get there a bit later ,do you think theres somewhere closer to the action but quieter at night ?its hard to pick somewhere when youve never been before

If you've not been before, then first of all I must say you're in for a treat! Glastonbury Festival is a magical place and you can't fail to have an amazing time, there's so much advice I could give but you'd get bored - just go with the flow and make sure you take the time to explore as many corners as possible. As for where to camp, using this year's site map (cdn.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/FG-Website-Map-v4.png) I would say... Darble, Bushy or Pylon can be relatively quiet, but are a little bit out of the way. Lime Kiln and Hitchin Hill would be quiet but are at the top of a hill (which means you get great views).Michael's Mead, Row MEad, Big Ground, Kidney Mead will all be full by Wednesday lunchtime, but if there's just the two of you maybe you can squeeze in - wouldn't be too quiet here though. On the south side, Pennard is a 24hr party and will be full by Wednesday mid-morning, same for Park Home. Dairy is very popular, probably full by Wednesday lunchtime but not quite as boistrous as Pennards. The south parks are quite quiet, but quite a trek from the gates (and up hill, but again, great views). We were actually in Rig's Field according to that map (I don't remember it being labelled as such in 2013) and as I said, that was nice and quiet at night as will Bailey's and Back House. It depends which gate you're heading for as well, if you approach the site from the East (A37) then you'll be directed to the East car parks giving you a very long trek with your camping stuff to most camping areas. I've always approached from the West and aimed for PGD. This is where the biggest queues are in the morning but if you're arriving later it'll be fine. You can also enter at PGA, a bit more of a trek outside the site, but if you're heading to a camping area on the north side it can be better. The queues tend to be smaller here as it's mainly for those arriving by train/coach. Something else that I created a few years back that might help you: www.talbotk.com/keef/GlastoWalkingTimes2013.jpg Whatever happens, enjoy yourselves and have a pint of Brothers for me!
